The sweat from his earlier attempt at the course is still fresh on his face, glistening from the artificial lighting from the camera crew, just to set the scene for him to look at his wrist, showcasing the newest Battle Tracker model for their commercial, the cutting edge of SPORTS merchandise.

When it's all done, Fernando returns to the team, giving them more than enough time to recuperate.

"Let's go."

As is routine, his Smeargle, still MOODY, coerces his Pokemon to BEAT UP their vanguard; Mudsdale.

Mudsdale stands tall and proud at the front of the pack with Gavin astride its back; the Rocket is idle, scrolling through messages on his phone, but he looks up at the sound of Silph's voice and immediately shifts into focus.[break][break]

Pocketing the phone, he winds his hands through the reins and pulls tight as Mudsdale's STAMINA allows it to endure the now-familiar assault. As soon as the last smack resounds against its flank, Mudsdale takes off.[break][break]

kyle isn't quite sure what to feel upon seeing fernando model for his own company's products, but he supposed being a gym leader slash council slash ceo does wonders for marketing. not like he would know since he didn't study business.

"so, do we get free samples of those too?" kyle asks fernando, teasing him.

as soon as the action starts, the smeargle does the only thing it's expected to do during pokeathlon runs: psych up. defenses from the mudsdale are copied before it runs off for the course.

Salem pokes at his trainer as he speaks in his little meows pointing Fernando and then miming as if to drink it too. "I don't think that's for pokemon buddy, but I'll get you more water after" he comments quietly just silently not really wanting to question the man's product. After all he was being paid for this he didn't want to seem as if he were insulting it. Salem pouts but is ready when the man says it's time. Its only been one round so far but the cat felt like he could go for another 50. Once more he uses PSYCH UP in order to copy the ground pokemon's defense, the cat taking off with his trainer in toe ready to give it his all for the fun.

Mudsdale makes a critical error early on in the course by attempting to replicate its reckless leap from their first run-through. It realises at the last second that it won't be able to make it, rears back and nearly bucks Gavin off.

There's probably a better way to handle the frightened creature but he doesn't ride horses for a living so he's left to simply mutter nonsensical reassurance until his mount gathers itself and resumes their run.

"i don't even know what they're for but don't mind if i do." kyle asks fernando, teasing him.

the name 'battle tracker' is too vague for kyle to guess it's real purpose. track battles? kyle doesn't really get the objective of the merchandise, but he dismisses it for now. he'll search for the answers on the internet later.

the smeargle continues the course alongside its trainer.

That didn't look good, Razz couldn't help but think as it looked like the Mudsdale nearly tried to knock off it's trainer. Though he figured him to be able to handle himself enough not to stop, as Razz tried to focus on the course. Salem made sure to focus on the padded Pendulums, taking in their timing before using his Reflect to block them. The Psychic pokemon deciding to put his more defensive nature to work this round.

gavin's good. fernando's good. razz's good. kyle's good. everyone's good. the only thing kyle gets from this is that he should stop worrying about everything else and just focus on the task at hand.

the smeargle does a great job at that. a tail wraps around kyle to tug him forward when he stops to muse about whatever fernando's sales pitch was, prompting the elite four to continue moving.

The reflect seemed to do it's job well, allowing the two to pass without even needing to slow down outside the normal slippery surface. Both still determined to try and keep the pace going. The next obstacle already coming at them in the form of the foam balls being shot at them. This time around Salem attempting PSYCHIC in order to stop them in their place to prevent them from being a problem the best he could.

He can feel the lack of motivation permeate through his muscles. Every fiber of his body screams that it can't go on further, to stop the punishment. Fernando can only imagine what his Pokemon is feeling. With a reaffirming pat to the head, he smiles at the much more temperamental of the two, ready to reward them with the highest of praises.

Gavin's Mudsdale does not try to fling him off the course again. He'll gather up each of these small blessings and remember them when he rewards the Pokemon later with whatever the hell it wants. If Mudsdale took him to the top, he'd get medals and it would get the star treatment. It was not one of his prized steel-types or fossils, but it was quickly solidifying its worth in his roster. Sweat drips into Gavin's eyes. Almost there.

the last stretch. kyle heaves for a sprint to get to the finish line and basically just tried to dodge all of the obstacles instead of tanking them. he grits his teeth as he forces himself to make an effort for the last few seconds of the run.
