Adrian was close to the tipping point.

Every night he rolled through the streets in his car, cruising from out of Slateport towards the outskirts, proactively patrolling the slums and seedy recluses of the city of sin. And for what?

Only rarely did it amount to anything more than a wasted trip, an emptier tank of petrol. But by now it had become a sort of ritual, one that he skipped out of necessity, but ever hoped that one day...

He'd find the one responsible. Were it so easy.

The call goes out across League comms networks as he's passing along the last place him and River Marx had gone together. Wonder what that dork's up to lately... As he fishes out his phone, Adrian suspects a text from Serena Malcolm or perhaps noah faber. But it's even more pressing.

...Didn't I just pass near there? His tires squelch as he slams the break and whips the wheel around, making an illegal turn before gunning it back down the road he'd come in from. All he was looking for was a scratch to his itch. Something to pacify the errant mind. And perhaps to find the one...

As the car squeals to a halt outside the building, Adrian is quick to change out the pokeballs adorning his belt, knowing the confined spaces inside less suitable for his Gyarados, Corviknight and Iconoclast respectively. And then he bolts for the door, breaking through the entrance in a clamor of doors slamming wide on their hinges.

A frame job: that was the assignment. [break][break]

Rocket was adamant about putting an unfavorable spotlight on league officials. The worse they looked in the limelight, the better. And Emma was nothing if not efficient at her job. The assignment was simple: make sure that she got someone else on the security cameras tampering with evidence and criminalizing themselves.[break][break]

She had already handled one task: make sure she made some noise.[break][break]

Rocket had lent her a handful of Weezing to infiltrate the abandoned warehouses. There was nothing incredibly important or incriminating located there other than your run of the mill crime lord exchanges. More than likely, she was getting her feet wet involving herself with an illegal trade deal. It was just a coincidence that she would bump into someone gullible enough to be caught red-handed.[break][break]

"Hmmm..."[break][break]

He was exactly who she was looking for. Someone headstrong, arrogant, hotheaded and willing to stick their neck out for the sake of a thrill -- or maybe a personal vendetta. She could see the heat behind his eyes, the assertiveness, the hunger, as he slams through the front entrance and right into her trap. Emma remains out of sight, arms crossed over her chest as she observes his entrance. Time ticks down slowly as her plan comes to fruition.[break][break]

In the corner of the building, a security camera blinks lazily. Behind it, a Galvantula hisses to draw attention to the camera. It's already filming, taking in every person who comes in and out of the building. Emma exhales slowly, gesturing for the shadow at her side to approach.[break][break]

"Just as we planned, Mephisto." [break][break]

Shouldn't have come barrelling in like that, he notes as he rushes face first into a growing haze. Immediately his left forearm raises to cover his mouth, while the right hand fidgets with his phone and withdraws two of his own Weezing. He releases them in a flash, and thankfully the effects are immediate as NEUTRALIZING GAS and MISTY SURGE begin to reverse the growing haze.

"Miasma, Clear Smog." An itch in his throat causes him to cough a little violently, lending to his worry of the nature of the gas. "Baron, Aromatherapy." As the volatile airborne compound deteriorates, the air is instead filled with a pleasant aroma that helps soothe the onset of Adrian's symptoms. That's all I can do for now...

It's not inherently clear where the gas is spilling out from, or whether it's pokemon or manmade in origin, but he knows it's somewhere in the building. He'll have to do a full sweep to be sure.

"Come out, and I won't hurt you," he raises his voice to be heard as he navigates around dilapidated shipping crates and warehouse infrastructure, anticipating a trap around every corner, yet having little choice but to spring them.

Emma's eyebrows raise at the sudden turn of events. The boy is playing right into her trap and even adding to it. How convenient.[break][break]

As his two Weezing enter the game and work to dispel the worst of the poisonous gas in the room, the camera winks as it films the goings-on. With a little bit of tampering, it would work in Emma's favor.[break][break]

The boy calls out and Emma glances at her Zoroark.[break][break]

"Well? You're being summoned. Don't make the boy wait."[break][break]

And Mephisto descends into the murky, distorted smog still covering the room. He sticks to the shadows, playing tricks of the mind as he attempts to drag the boy's attention to him. But he's waiting for something, waiting to see a reaction come from him to better base this next step of his game. His ILLUSION wavers, not sticking to one specific shape for long. But for the most part, he attempts to mimic the image of a man.[break][break]

He stays with the Koffing and Weezing deeper in the warehouse, hiding in their smog.[break][break]

Adrian requires a means to clear the Weezing.

"Baron, Strange Steam." Almost none of his other moves would work, and seeing as he's pressed for time, Adrian doesn't try to withdraw another pokemon. His other Weezing continues to CLEAR SMOG from all around them, stockpiling the gas for its own consumption. Adrian stops.

He can hear the faintest of footsteps...

He begins to eye around warily, pursuing the unknown party by the trail of bread crumbs. Almost assuredly they lead him in circles, until at last he makes out the silhouette of a tall man...

Rational thinking hadn't brought him here tonight, and that became self-evident as he directed the Kanto Weezing's attention to a pile of sealed oil barrels. "Miasma, fire a Sludge Bomb now!"

The only indicator is a gesture of the hand to offer a hint at the direction. On command a deluge of acrid waste gushes from the Weezing's mouths, corroding through the barrels and sending them scattering haphazardly across the warehouse floor.

A hand held at his waistline lifts up and poises behind his head before hurtling something forward; the kydex sheath at his hip is empty, and ahead of him a steel edge razes through the air towards an unknown mark, his paranoia running rampant...

There is a hallucinogenic gas being leaked, blending in with the poisonous fumes. The more the boy stirs it up by trying to push it away, to clear the room, to see, the worse he makes it. It's a ruse, a ploy, a distraction. He's walking blindly into her perfectly laid web. A web of lies, deceit, of doom. [break][break]

Mephisto has caught the man's attention, leading him further and further into the depths of Emma's deception. The illusion of the Zoroark's image is splashed away as the Pokemon side-steps the sludge bomb. In his place, a destroyed security system controlling a door and the security cameras are smothered in acid. It burns away, smoking, foul as plastic and wiring and machinery are stripped away. It sparks a few times before fizzling out entirely. The cameras wink out of operation. A silent alarm is sounded. It was just a matter of time, now.[break][break]

Mephisto laughs, a noise eerie familiar to the maniacal tone of one Empirio Saiga. [break][break]

Nearby, the short-circuiting security system opens a room containing several safely-tucked crates. It appears that he has walked into an expensive shipment trade. Looks like he's stuck in hands in the forbidden cookie jar. Tut, tut, Adrian. The illusion of Empirio disappears into the fog of war, leading the man into the opened room.[break][break]

"What are you playing at?!"

This wasn't his style, but then, they'd only ever the one encounter. And although his Arcanine's assailant had been underhanded, they seemed equally the bombastic sort. Why the smoke and mirrors? Why did they not confront Adrian...

He'd considered that perhaps it was a trap, if nothing else. But with the prospect of revenge so close at hand... could he afford not to spring it, to turn away and overlook the criminality of their actions past and present? He certainly could not.

With a flash a pokeball of his releases an Honedge that he clutches in hand, its beady eye staring through the veil of smog, seeing all yet saying nothing as it stood vigil. With it in hand Adrian gives chase, his Weezing lagging in pursuit...

"Psycho Cut!!!" Adrian slashes the Honedge, sending a blast of psychic energy towards them from a distance, having grown weary of their elusive dance of cat-and-mouse. Bastard...

"STOP RUNNING!!!!!"

Hack, slash, slice & dice. Adrian frantically begins carving through the air with the sword in a vigorous frenzy, sending crescents of psychokinetic energy towards the silhouette he suspected of being Empirio Saiga with a recklessness hitherto unseen in Adrian. "COWARD! COME FACE ME!"

The barrage would begin to vandalize the infrastructure, sending overhanging fixtures crashing down and ideally pinning down his target as Adrian came deliberately rushing in for the—

With the Honedge in hand he grips the hilt tightly, and the Honedge responds by empowering itself with the force of SACRED BLADE as Adrian takes a final resounding slice at the shadow with the face of Empirio Saiga, meaning to end this farce...

Of course it wasn't his style - Emma didn't know a damn thing about Empirio, or at the very least, didn't care. He blew shit up and hurt innocent people. That wasn't Emma's endgame, wasn't her goal. She had no intention of getting anyone hurt let alone killed. What she was doing was wasting time, buying time, and better yet, wasting his time.[break][break]

With Adrian's outcry there would be no response. Emma has absolutely no intention of getting involved. Getting involved meant jeopardizing her position - the last thing she needed was to also be caught on camera manhandling security.[break][break]

Speak of the devil--[break][break]

Just as her prey releases a Honedge to deal with Mephisto's trickery, she turns her head from the top of the roof looking in just in time to see League officials busting down the door. Or well, the door that was already wide open, pretty much. Same thing. [break][break]

They come in with their weapons up and their masks on, able to see through what remains of the smog. [break][break]

"Hands up! Put your hands up!"[break][break]

And Mephisto is hit with the brunt of the PSYCHO CUT, though his shape has manifested into one avery jones. She screams, blood spraying from an illusioned wound as a result of Adrian's Pokemon. Or maybe it's real blood and he had actually injured the Zoroark. Who knows. Regardless, Emma doesn't blink and instead remains silent as the scene unfolds. Officials step in to retrieve the woman, her sobbing hysterical enough that Mephisto need not even attempt human speech - something he was incapable of. Crying would suffice.[break][break]

What will you do now, Adrian?[break][break]

What the fuck is this even? Adrian wonders loudly as the scene turns into a shitshow.

As the warehouse is stormed by official League personnel he is momentarily distracted from the figure shapeshifting in the shade until lights begin blaring up on him and the command to surrender his arms is made. Reluctantly he holds up his hands, shouting back at them: "You've got it wr-"

A shrieking cry startles him as the 'victim' turns out to be an ordinary girl about his age. The hairs on his neck stand up at the impossibility of it all. No... I didn't, I wouldn't. Did they know that?

The Honedge retreats when it drops from his hand, returning to its pokeball shortly after. With the situation turning extremely suspicious, Adrian realizes he can't talk his way out of it. In fact, saying anything might only make matters worse.

They detain him rather aggressively, which prompts some verbal objection, but not much else. He's been through this before, just not for any crimes of the same scale. He's admittedly rattled.

Casting another questioning gaze at the 'victim', he tries to understand how he had become so delusional to mix up the two... But he can't.

Something else was going on here.
