It's been some time after the attack on Hoenn, though like his problems before all this happened Razz did what he could to keep himself busy with routine and activities. While still taking a break from missions to recover it didn't mean he was going to get lazy with his pokemon. With his growing number of water pokemon swimming about the island most of them seemed to have fun with. Two of them though seemed to want to be more active about it and wanted to race. So to help them actually burn all their energy he made both race once around the island. Razz was on top Duke the Sharpedo as the shark claimed that he could still go faster. Not wanting to be left out of the fun Salem decided to ride Azula.[break][break]

As they were going around the island on one particular turn it seemed a boat had decided to be idle for whatever reason, which would be find if the two pokemon weren't going over 50mph on their turn. The Duke made s jump turn to quickly stop as he wasn't sure a sudden dive would be something his trainer would be ready for. Though the sudden turn wasn't something he could keep grip at such speed as he was flung off. [break][break]

Azlua was quick to react as she jumped from the water to grab her trainer before landing on an empty spot of the random speedboat in the sea. Though with her weight he may have rocked the boat quite a bit. If he weren't already sore from everything this was going to just push it. He thanked Azula with a small pained groan as the emperor pokemon put him down as Salem seemed panicky about his trainer and if he were hurt.

The captain groaned, still half-asleep, as an empty bottle rolled away from her body and hit the floor with a dull thud. The couch she'd been sleeping on wasn't the most comfortable of places, but it was wide enough for her to stretch her limbs and rest her head - and that was more than enough.

Pulling herself to a vertical position, Skyler stretched and sighed in relief when something popped into place. She was still groggy, trying to remember her previous night - yet her memories were hazy. Something that was starting to happen with worrisome frequency. Skyler burrowed her fingers into her blonde curls and tried to make something out of the mess her hair was probably in - giving up after a few minutes out of sheer frustration.

Maybe she should go eat something.

She was about to reach for a pack of cookies when the sound of something landing on her boat sent her on full alert. Her silver eyes immediately went to the stairs leading up to the deck even as images of sharp-toothed aliens and giant cthulhu-like monsters flashed in her mind. Careful not to make any noise, Skyler grabbed onto one of her harpoons and slowly raised herself so that she could take a peek at the intruder.

An Empoleon and a human. Or, well, what she thought to be a human.

"Who's there?" If they so much as moved in her direction, she'd throw the harpoon at them. There were several pokéballs in her belt, ready to be used too.

While Razz was thankful to not be injured from the sudden turn, it seemed like a boat interrupting their race wasn't going to be the most problematic thing of the day. Especially since from the corner of his good eye he could very much see a person before the familiar voice asked who was there. Azula kept holding up her trainer as she glared at the stranger but Razz just raised his hands in surrender as a symbol for her to not do anything, and to hope she wouldn't do anything. "Hey hey hey no need for that Ms. Dross" he was quick to speak, making sure to use a calm voice though it seemed Salem was different. "It's just Salem and I, sorry about awaking you I'm sure." [break][break]

Salem was quick to jump onto the Empoleon's shoulder, arms waved out and quick meows as he spoke in a 'what-the-heck-you-doing-you-crazy! you-know-us!' and yada yada all in pokemon speech that despite knowing she couldn't understand spoke like she did anyways. He liked this lady so to see her point a weapon was just mean. Though it wasn't like the psychic type wasn't ready to just use PSYCHIC to remove the weapon from her should she attempt to throw it. Though seems like both trainer and pokemon wanted to keep this peaceful. Unlike his water pokemon who seemed to have no problems attacking should the order be given.

As soon as the sailor recognized who was on her boat, the harpoon she'd been holding in a threatening manner immediately clattered down into the cabin under her. Her eyes widened briefly before she groaned. "Shit, Razz. I'm sorry. I thought-" It didn't matter. She ran a hand through her hair, utterly frustrated with herself. These sort of things kept happening as of late. Not her attacking people, of course, but jumping into a sort of 'battle mode' due to the most ridiculous things.

"You too, Salem. I'm sorry." A faint smile touched her lips at the Meowstic's familiar antics. She didn't know the Empoleon, though she nodded at the pokémon in acknowledgement.

The sailor blew a few curls away from her face and used her arms to haul herself up onto the deck. She was, to be perfectly honest, a mess. Rumpled clothing from yesterday and chaotic hair. Good thing they couldn't see the growing collection of empty bottles inside the cabin.

The sailor looked briefly around, looking for a boat, but seeing none. Then she scratched the back of her neck, looking somewhat sheepish. "Welcome to The Mariner 2, I guess. Watcha doing around these parts, Razz? I haven't seen you in awhile."

Wait, where was his mask?

With the harpoon now down Razz tapped Azula to let him go which she did before diving back in the water with Duke again leaving their trainer to deal with the woman for now. At her words Razz just shook his head with his hands up still, "No worries it's fine considering the craziness that's been going on, glad to see for the most part you're okay," the young ranger seemed way to cool about the fact a weapon was pointed at him, though now sitting on Razz's shoulder seems the Meowstic was much more pouty at her. Though even his expression would've given it away that he wasn't really angry with the sailor. [break][break]

Razz allowed himself to look at the ship as she welcomed him, only just remembering that he didn't have his usual headband on. Quick to fix this he put up the hood of his windbreaker he was wearing and made it so it covered that part of his face, all more out of habit than anything else. "Nice ship, as to what brings us those two enjoy racing each other so decided on a lap around the island.... before we nearly hit your ship... sorry about that," he makes sure to apologize for that as he points to the Empoleon and Sharpedo swimming around as they clearly wanted to start their race again, "And yeah with everything it's been busy with the job mostly cause keeping busy is better than just laying around, are you alright? You didn't even bug me about calling you 'Ms. Dross'" Razz can't help but ask considering what just passed and he was sure most people would be shaken up.

The scar was new. Well, maybe not exactly new. Just new in the sense that Skyler had never seen it. She'd always seen him with his headband covering part of his face, but she'd never really questioned it. As if suddenly remembering that fact himself, Razz attempted to cover that part of his face with his hood.

Skyler said nothing about it. If Razz wanted to mention the scar, she'd listen - otherwise, it was business as usual. A smile of relief split her face at Razz's reassuring words, immediately becoming less tense at his nonchalant manner. He didn't even seem very surprised. "You were part of the war too?" It made sense, he was a ranger after all. "Where?" Skyler herself had been in Lilycove, of course. She didn't remember seeing him there, but then again it had been... chaotic, to say the least. "Glad to see you safe too, Razz."

A faint chuckle escaped Skyler's throat at his next comment. She stretched her arms up before crossing them behind her head, feeling less tense by the minute. "I'm okay, given the circumstances. I survived." There a wealth of meaning in that last sentence, but Skyler brushed over it quickly. "And it's Skyler, Skyler. Don't Ms. Dross me. Makes me feel old and I'm not that much older than you."

She winked at Salem, finding his pouting adorable. "A race, you said?" There was a glint of interest in her eyes as the question left her mouth.

"Of course," was Razz's simple reply as if there was no other answer to that. Not only was he a ranger so it was sort of part of the job of protection and such, but this was also a matter of humans defending their very lives. Though its not like he expected everyone to actually go to war as not everyone had it in them. "I went to Mauville, it was... definitely crazy to say the least, what of you? Unless you rather not talk about it which is fine," he was quick to add the last part. Heck he wasn't even completely sure she took part in it, she rather just seemed the type who wouldn't sit by as things went on to him. [break][break]

Though it seems like she was becoming a bit more relaxed as their conversation went on a bit, part of him figured maybe he should dismiss the idea of talking about what had happened. Or was he thinking too much about it? "Whaaaaaaat? Noooo I would never use your name like that cause you're older," he attempts to joke though honestly he's not sure if it comes off well, "cause like... ummmm-" he seems about to explain before Salem is quick to grab his hood and put it down over his head to quickly stop his trainer. Salem clearly trying to tell his trainer that you don't explain jokes! Besides it was a bad joke anyways, he could't let his trainer make it worse. The jerk. [break][break]

With a grumble he just removes the hood. One so Salem couldn't do it again, and the other the hood bugged him having it on. Let her ask about the scar, it was annoying to have on in comparison to his usual headband. Though he did perk up at the change of subject with a nod, "Yeah its good exercise for them, why don't you join us? You're the water pokemon expert right surely you got a fast one"

Mauville, huh? News traveled fast in Hoenn and Skyler definitely didn't envy his placement there, though - to be honest - it had been bad everywhere. The young man seemed to be taking it surprisingly well, however. A part of her was impressed, even proud, strangely.

"I was in Lilycove," she told him, a corner of her lips quirking up. "It is my home." Razz had been there once, she suddenly remembered, when she'd bought a pool to help cool down people's pokémon during the heatwave. "Plus it was by the ocean so I thought my skills were better suited to the location." She simply shrugged, letting that conversation fade. There were still far too many ghosts in her mind. Better to not let them roam free.

The following joke had Skyler grinning, but it was only when Salem pulled the hood over Razz's head that she burst out laughing. "Are you sassing me, young man?" She mock huffed, teasing, her eyes alight with amusement. "You ought to respect your elders."

Her earlier grin returned at the mention of a water race and she couldn't help but take his words for a challenge. Skyler did love a good challenge, especially if it was water related. "I have a couple," she told him, trying not to sound too smug about it. She'd seen his Empoleon and looking out at the water, she could also see a Sharpedo. Those were some fine water types. Fast too.

Probably not as fast as her own, but still.

Skyler reached for her belt and released two pokémon into the waters. One was a Starmie and the other was a Tentacruel. The latter reached out with its tentacles and perched on the edge of the boat, making the vessel sway a little under their feet. The water/poison type looked bizarrely affectionate given its strange appearance.

Skyler turned to Razz. She hadn't even had breakfast yet, but she was ready to race. "How do you want to do this?"

"Yeah Lillycove makes sense, I'm sure if Sootopolis here was in danger I would've stayed here, but hey I'm sure you did great... sooo like...." he paused trying to think of a good way to phrase this as though he really didn't have the words. "Yeah I don't know where I was going with that, but end result is you're alive and safe and I'm glad for that," he gives a soft smile to the other, she was one of few people he had grown to be okay around as she is one of the few people he's had multiple contact with. And he found her energy magnetic in away. Salem seems to agree with this as he pumps his fist up as if going 'affirmative!'[break][break]

At the remark about sassing her both Salem and Razz just stuck their tongues out her in a playful manner. "Alright Skyler then, I'll make sure from now on," he replies as he watches her send out her pokemon Razz looking over the edge checking them out. While the Starmie made sense he never pictured a Tentacruel as the fast type. Though its not like he was the pokemon expert on water types. [break][break]

"Well my brother and I used to do these things a lot in one of two ways," he puts up both hands with one finger each. He put up the left, "One was the simple way, just who ever is fastest simple as that while riding one of our pokemon," he then gestures to his right hand, "The next is battling, the trainer rides one pokemon and the other pokemon is used to attack to try and knock the other off before they reach the finish line," he puts both hands down to his pockets. "Loser usually pays for lunch, which you find more fun?"

Skyler did her best to remain the most mature out of the three of them, she really did. She even crossed her arms over her chest and adopted a stiff posture -- which lasted all of three seconds before she stuck out her tongue back at Razz and Salem, a cheerful grin cracking over her face. She let the conversation about the war die a swift death, the memories still too close to the surface -- she daren't poke them too much.

"Sky is fine too, for friends." The words came effortlessly; she'd given them no more thought than she'd give to saying that water was wet. Just like that, she'd moved Razz into her circle of friends, easy as breathing. "Or captain if you're standing on my boat," she teased, her earlier grin turning playful.

Skyler's eyes lit up with unholy glee as Razz explained the mechanics behind the water race. There was a sort of giddy excitement making its way to her expression. "The second one, definitely," Skyler didn't even hesitate. A water race and a water battle? And the loser buys lunch? Hell yeah.

Her eyes drifted to the pokémon she'd released. Either of them could take her. Starmie was the fastest, but Skyler wasn't sure how much of her own weight would slow the pokémon down. "If we're making a battle out of this..." She called forth a third pokémon, revealing a Kingdra. "Krakentoa, I need you to stay here, defend the boat in case anyone approaches." The Tentacruel nodded, tentacles holding onto the side of the boat.

The sailor walked over to the edge of the boat, where Krakentoa lowered her onto the Starmie. Boreal, the Kingdra, watched from beneath the waves, bubbles escaping its snout. Skyler looked back at Razz, and there was a brief flash of challenge in her eyes as she spoke. "Ready whenever you are, Razz. I need my free lunch."

Razz stiffen a bit at the term friend, mostly from surprise as he wasn't really sure if deserved the title just yet. Friends came from a lot more interaction than just the few they've had right? Though he suppose he shouldn't look protest against it so he just smiled. "Then I suppose I need to get off so I don't have to," he snorts about the whole 'captain' name. [break][break]

When she decided on which style race she wanted he nodded before looking to Salem, "Help look after the ship too," he orders making the cat just pout clearly unhappy about being left behind as Razz whistles and jumps onto Duke since he was equipped with the ride. "Remember only one attacker, but both your pokemon can defend," he wants to clarify the rules a bit, the whole thing was simple so it shouldn't be all that complicated. He laughs a bit at the whole free lunch thing, "As if you'll get it, but even if you did I ain't made of money, you might just wanna lose with how little I can afford," he chuckles playing his own little game. "Count us off Salem!" [break][break]

At that the cat gets excited using PSYCHIC to hover himself between the two trainers, using his arm to count to three before giving a final MEOW to signal GO! With that Duke the Sharpedo was off with Azula following close behind. With the jets behind him they were quick to take off, Razz giving a whistle to signal Azula as she twisted in the water to create WHIRLPOOLS in Skyler's path.

There was a wide, wild smile blooming on Skyler's face as she made herself comfortable on the Starmie, finding the right footholds and handholds. It wasn't the most comfortable of rides, but it was a fast one -- and exhilirating too. Goggles made their way to her face to protect her eyes from the incoming salt water; at the speeds they'd go, it was entirely possible they'd end up completely soaked even if they didn't fall into the ocean.

She let out a bark of laughter at this cheeky comment. "Getting ready to lose, Razz?" Her eyes sparkled mischievously as she looked at him. "I'll take an ice cream. With three toppings." Of course the idea of food was tempting, but to Skyler it was just an added bonus she could do without. That feeling right then, of shared laughter and playful challenges, was much more precious.

She looked at Salem expectantly and at his signal she took off, the Starmie under her zooming forward and leaving in its wake a line of seafoam.

Skyler heard the whistle, but didn't know what it meant - except that the battle was on. Hair whipping behind her, Skyler looked ahead to see whirlpools forming right in her path. "Ahead!" Polaris, the Starmie, used its PSYCHIC to move itself and Skyler up and over the whirlpools in what looked like a big jump, making the sailor let out a 'woop' of excitement. Behind her, Boreal took control of the WHIRLPOOL and threw it directly at the Sharpedo.

Razz was happy that he could bring such a smile to the other's face. The only thing that would amuse him more now was to knock it off her by beating her in the race. The ranger looked over his left shoulder to check on how close behind the water trainer was. Looks like he was able to deflect and now send back the WHIRLPOOL. Not bad but it was only the beginning, with a slap on his Sharpedo's dorsel fin to give a signal Razz held onto the brutal pokemon as it jumped up with a spin using LIQUIDATION to to create a blade of water and slice the whirlpool in two before landing again and taking off. [break][break]

The ranger definitely felt like he was going to get dizzy if this happened too much, but he wasn't going to let the strategy end there. With another whistle to give orders to Azula the Empoleon used BUMBBLE BEAM at the water to create even more bubbles to reduce the speed of the other racer rather than looking to knock her off just yet.

Despite having enabled them to jump over the swirling whirlpools it seemed like Starmie's Psychic had ended up slowing them down too somewhat. Not too much, but enough that Razz definitely had a small lead and that simply couldn't be allowed to continue. The Whirlpool sent his way was quickly dealt with by Sharpedo, and Skyler whistled, impressed.

'Razz might get sick if Sharpedo does too many of those aerial maneuvers.'

Skyler didn't have much time to think before a sleught of bubbles got in her way. One managed to escape the others' gravity and stuck to Skyler's face, bursting with a small pop and making Skyler sneeze. Fortunately, Starmie wasn't too bothered; before the bubbles could cause any sort of damage, it had used SURF to drown them beneath the waves and at the same time giving them a little bit of a boost forward.

'See if you can dodge this,' Skyler thought as she made a motion to the Kingdra beneath the waves.

Seconds later, the dragon has popped out of the waves ahead of them, its snout releasing a SMOKESCREEN right ahead of Razz and his Sharpedo.

Razz had to shift his weight oddly on top of Duke as for a moment he did attempt to look over his right to see what had happened. Only to remember right, he couldn't see from that side. God that was annoying, he'd figure after two years he'd get used to looking left. Though apparently 2 years of practice wasn't going to change 17 years of clear sight. So the Ranger didn't get the chance to see if the bubbles hit or not. Though he did hear the waves crashing as he made sure to look left this time for SURF. Lovely, only for the Kingdra to come up front and use SMOKESCREEN. While that may have bugged Duke Razz had his goggles on as he knocked on the dorsal fin again. [break][break]

With the knock Duke knew to DIVE down and travel under the water to wash off the smog that covered the shark's eyes. After a minute underwater the shark jumped out the water once more, the Ranger coughing a bit for having to hold his breath so long while going at such speeds but Duke wasn't planning to slow down even for his trainer. Not that Razz would have it any other way. [break][break]

To avoid the earlier wave Azula would have made sure to dive underwater as well. For now keeping under and decided to make an attack of her own as she wasn't going to hear a whistle from under there. With the use of AQUA JET Azula surrounded herself in water before shooting herself at the Starmie like a rocket to hit the starfish and attempt to knock the trainer off. [break][break]
