"Wait what? five pokemon? I never agreed to that!" argued Zac, but the voice files on Chryssa's phone were clear, and he heard his own words played back through the device. "Oh stakes? Yeah sounds good." When did I say that? "Uh, I was..talking about food for after the movie," he said, but the look on her face made it clear he wasn't getting out of it that easily. "This is crazy!" he said, gesturing wildly, one hand holding a half-full bottle of Charge-a-Cola. "and frankly, it's, uh, not in the spirit of the season. All that giving? Oh, well, uh, gimme that list! There's no way I owe you five Pokemon. I'm gonna check your maths," Zac said, and he tried to snatch the paper from Chryssa, but only succeeded in spilling his drink.
"I'm not accepting your terms until I see that-" *BZZZZZ* Zac was interrupted by a violent buzzing from the seat next to him. "What the- VC? You okay buddy?" The movie and credits had ended, but the Vibrava was still shaking violently, its eyes darting around the cinema. "He's a bit overstimulated, I think," Zac said, and he noticed that some of his Charge-a-Cola had spilled onto the Pokemon. "Oh no, this really isn't safe for you to drink mate, did much get on you?" In response, VC's carapace ruptured, ripping down his back as a flash of light shone through. Inside, VC's body was breaking down, transforming. The straight, insectoid body curled in on itself as it took on a more bipedal form. Legs thickened, and the twin sets of wings fused together, combining into a single, thicker pair of wings. His questing eyes glazed over with a protective red film reminiscent of desert goggles, and his antennae shifted to point backwards. VC reared his head and shook off the rest of the carapace. He had evolved
"VC! Buddy! You're a fully formed Flygon now!" Zac shouted in delight, and he wrapped the buzzing pokemon up in a big hug. "Look at you! Look at your eyes!" he exclaimed, grinning like a proud parent. "They're meant to be moving like that, right?" he asked Chryssa. "I'm sure it's fine."
In a much more accepting mood, Zac looked over the list. He frowned at a few items, more in surprise than in disagreement, but in the end couldn't argue with Chryssa's breakdown. "Okay, fine," he said as he held out a hand to shake on the completed agreement, only to pull it away at the last second. "But! You have to promise to look after them! I'm a man of honor, but if you give me half a reason to doubt your love for these little critters i'll break my word in a second. So do you promise?"
