The last thing he can remember was closing out his tab in a bar in Fortree following Balder Schwartz's Christmas Festival. After that, everything else is a blur. Figments of his walk outside and back to a motel room he rented in the city come together as the stone cold floor pricks him awake. A brief memory of a sudden BLIZZARD clouds his memory but nothing else concrete comes to mind.

And, for whatever reason, Fernando lacks any Pokeballs on his person. Digging through his pockets return nothing except his cellphone which lacks any signal. As far as he's concerned, he's trapped with no way to communicate with the outside world. In an exasperated huff, Fernando curses his own inadequacy, unsure how someone managed to get the slip on him.

This should have never happened.

Regret spurs an impromptu New Year's Resolution to never be caught slipping this hard before Fernando realizes the exact extent of his predicament.

Everyone is out for the Holiday. Coupled with the fact that Fernando makes sudden trips on his own time, many times without letting anyone else know, no one will realize he's missing. Given the circumstance, no one will suspect anything for several days, if not a week plus.

Fuck.

Luckily, what he doesn't realize, is that there's one big clue as to his current predicament.

Fernando Silph never misses payroll. Even if someone else is at fault, he makes sure the appropriate (see competent) members of the League, are paid and paid well. kyle lopez and Razz Kingsman are among the few he favors and he's hinted more than several times for them to expect a nice, crisp Christmas bonus the day after Christmas.

However, due to being both out of office and being kidnapped, that juicy paycheck remains unfiled.

Further investigation would lead either of them to Fernando's last known location, about half a mile out and at the entrance of the cave he's currently stuck in.

"we're finding him, kingsman!"

kyle's too motivated to find the boss despite knowing that fernando himself is a very capable trainer if he managed to even become the gym leader on top of being council. money is on the line, and he's too focused on that.

he holds his bergmite in his arms as it maintains an aurora veil around them to shield them from the blizzard's strong gusts. his arcanine tracks the trail amid the blizzard, following it slowly as snow has been covering the trail as time passes on.

"we need our bonus! he promised us!" kyle probably doesn't, but a promise was a promise.

the arcanine barks, and then points his head to the direction of the rocky walls of the mountains.

When he first came to visit the man for the bonus Razz felt a bit uncomfortable. He knew the man was good for it, so when it was missed why was he questioning it? Though after meeting up with Kyle and it turns out Fernado hasn’t been seen in a bit, maybe it was for the best. A simple “Of course,” was given when the elite four trainer seemed determined about finding the man. Though he wasn’t sure the promise of a bonus was a great motivator here. [break][break]

Thankfully with both their canines tracking down the man was easy. The Arcanine for Fernando’s sent to start them off, but as they got close Dodger was now able to detect a human aura. Razz has the aura pokemon go ahead toward a cave as the pokemon closes his eyes to sense anything else. [break][break]

He gives his trainer a few hand gestures, “Dodger says that there is a human there, but there is also something big and hostile, how should we approach?”

[attr="class","spiral"]The winding caves ahead of them lead straight into an Abomasnow’s nest. These Pokemon breed in droves, nesting together to help lay their roots deep underneath the stone floor. Because of this, even at the entrance, a strong BLIZZARD blows against them.

Kyle’s AURORA VEIL allows them entry but the copious amount of ice type Pokemon show that they’ve further to venture. Unfortunately, some of these Pokemon prove quite hostile.

"guns blazing!" he answers fervently. "the faster we get him to safety, the better. besides, you have a male meowstic with you. they're good for defenses, right?"

there's little to worry about with two pokemon whose purpose was to detect the undetected and another two who was there solely for their protection. kyle has confidence that he can adjust reactively depending on the threats they face. if worse comes to worst, he can always just leave silph, he tells himself.

as the bergmite remains on his arms, he motions for his arcanine to take the lead from them. the instruction comes next as soon as kyle sees his pokemon position himself before the wild pokemon that guard the domain.

"bulldoze!"

the fire-type stomps on the ground, releasing shockwaves directed towards the wild pokemon. slush and ice that accumulated from the treetops bury the resident ice-types with snow, further slowing their advances towards them after being knocked down on their feet and slowed by the move.

"let's ignore them. can't waste time on mobs," he explains.

Well that was definitely direct, he was a bit surprised on just how much Kyle seemed to be into it. Though as he thought of the way he spoke about the whole 'main protag' thing from days earlier maybe it was a dream come true right now of playing the hero. He nods at the question, "We'll do what we can to keep of defense," he assures. After all considering their ranking the Elite definitely out matches him. [break][break]

As he enters the cave with Kyle there is surprise that slows him down just a tad with the number of pokemon that were there. Though he said he would keep up the defense. With a whistle Salem goes with starting things up, shielding the group with a layer of both LIGHT SCREEN and REFLECT. He worried about the attack for all he knew Fernando was near the beginning of the cave. Though he pushed that back to try and just have faith in the other. [break][break]

He gives a nod at the order before looking to his Lucario, "Lead the way," he ordered as Dodger used his aura sensing to detect the human they came for. With a bark after believing he found the correct thing he moves ahead hopefully they would be able to rescue the CEO soon. As they ran Razz took up the rear to ensure to defend them from behind so Kyle could take the front.

[attr="class","spiral"]For the inexperienced, perhaps this would have been an issue. In the face of the two survivors from Poison Patrol 99 this proves nothing more than a remedial practice.

Fernando can hear their entry echo throughout the halls. Kyle’s rush to speed run through the mission rivets in a cascade of snow falling and faint tremors. Unabashed, Silph takes this chance to venture toward the source of the noise, all under the presumption that whatever else lies dormant in the cave would do so as well, eliminating his chances of running into a wild Pokemon.

Along the trail, Fernando finds one of his misplaced Pokeballs. Just in time for the party to reunite.

the lucario leads them to a corridor from the mouth of the cave into what kyle assumed to be an underground system. there's only one tunnel so far, and kyle hopes that what he sees is all it was.

they are met with a wall of ice that was purely sheer cold, thick enough to stop their movements. kyle clicks his tongue, wondering if the wild pokemon who caught wind of them had erected such protection.

"flamethrower," he commands his pokemon.

the first attempt to melt it down entirely fails as each layer of ice melts in such a slow manner. flames keep on coming from the arcanine's maw, though his efforts weren't enough if they were to keep the rescue mission fast paced.

"kingsman!" he calls the ranger, expecting the other to already know what he was calling aid for.

Why did all of this feel much more complicated than it should've been? [break][break]

A thought he'd been wondering since they came in, but he was still willing to keep on going following behind to ensure that they wouldn't be attacked from behind as Kyle and Dodger lead the way to where. Their pace forcefully stopped at the wall, one think enough that even the Elite Four's flamethrower wasn't enough. [break][break]

"G-got it!" well he hoped he was reading the request correctly. With a whistle Salem began to clap to cast HELPING HAND on both the Arcanine and Lucario to boost their power. With Dodger's power now boosted Lucario charged up an AURA SPHERE within his hands before launching it were the fire dog was aiming to finally blast through the wall. Dodger barked as if to communicate not too much further as he continued on again.

[attr="class","spiral"]Kyle's FLAMETHROWER erodes at the ice wall like a persistent river. As long as it continue to stream against the frigid structure the more it will lose both its integrity and grit. One well placed AURA SPHERE is all it takes to cause the core to shatter, opening up a path way as the surrounding walls still hold strong.

Unfortunately, the open path does not lead them further in. It only leads them to the alpha of this Abomasnow nest; It's MEGA EVOLUTION. Not unlike the seen the case with every winter, several of the wild Pokemon find a way to Mega Evolve on their own volition. This Abomasnow proves no different, berating them with a punishing SNOW WARNING.

there's little to think about when kyle sees the abomasnow before them. occurrences of wild abomasnow catching civilians and kidnapping them weren't unheard of in the feature, with cases about it appearing two years ago. he can only suppose that similar cases had resurfaced.

"flamethrower," he tells his pokemon for the second time.

a burst of flames keep what little semblance of warmth they have in the cave against the abomasnow's snow warning alive. the inferno tears through the flurry of snow coming from the pokemon, lighting the abomasnow's grassy arms ablaze.

kyle watches attentively, a command ready for his bergmite should his arcanine not deal enough damage to the wild pokemon.

Someday he would really love to know how some of these wild pokemon were able to mega evolve themselves. He grumbled at the situation but for now all he could really do was help Kyle continue forward to help Fernando out. Besides that all the damn fire being contained within the cave was making him stiffen up. For a bit he was having a hard time even thinking up an order for his pokemon. Thankfully he has trained them to act without him as the Ranger felt himself unconsciously stepping back. [break][break]

Thankfully Salem had his back as the cat jumped to his shoulder to cast REFLECT once more to keep the team safe as he could. After calling for Dodger to do something as the aura pokemon jumped up high with a psychic boost from Salem to jump to the ceiling then used it's leg strength to jumped down and deliver a hard BLAZE KICK to the abomasnow's back.

[attr="class","spiral"]MEGA EVOLUTION or not, the Pokemon is no match for both trainers. Their combination of fire attacks causes the Pokemon to succumb to the elements, burned several times over as the Mega energy dissipates. When the Pokemon faints, it returns to its normal form, resolving the last obstacle in their way.

"Hmph. You're late." Fernando eyes both men with almost comical timing. Unfortunately, the zinger lacks the tone that usually comes with a witty quip. Even so, the brief smile he has delineates his gratitude in a way his voice fails to inflect.

"So which one of you figured it out first?"

inquiring between him and razz on who takes the credit won't actually end well. kyle saves the trouble of having to argue on who gets to earn it with a vague but quick response.

"take a guess," he answers fernando before razz can answer.

regardless of the multitude of fire-type attacks thrown, the cold still lingers in his skin. low temperatures only get more obvious when they slowed down, prompting kyle to recall the ice-type on his hands back to its pokeball to rub the sides of his arms.

"are we going to talk about it still?" he asks. "let's just head back. this place is too cold."

Finally it was over, he sighed to himself as the Mega Pokemon reverted back to his previous form. Salem looks back at him and comments something about fire but that just gains the cat a glare from him and so the Meowstic just rolls eyes for now and drops it. oddly enough Fern is already there to greet them. Razz was just about to answer as it was just what he did but he stops himself as Kyle seems to try and deflect it back at the other with. So he shuts his mouth and just gives a shrug to the CEO to not give any hints. Part of him wondered if this was part of some 'game' for Kyle. [break][break]

"I second what Lopez says, the abomasnow wasn't the only hostile pokemon here. Maybe you could tell just the why you ended up here?" he can't help but ask a bit. Sure they figured out him missing and found him, but the reason for it all? no clue.
