Adrian decides to offer a prayer to an ancient shrine on his way to the safari zone, mostly to try and square his karma for the new year, but he can't help but enjoy the ceremonial practices.

Hoenn boasted a rich culture and matching history that he learned a little more and more about the longer he remained. This year would be no different, he realized, stepping over the threshold of the shrine in his traditional yukata garb.

There are others around him, locals and natives, who're particularly compelled by the shrine and offer prayers up to it. But Adrian hesitates.

Bryan had decided to visit a nearby shrine to receive some blessings for the new year. He was deep in prayer when he felt a sudden chill come pass by him. His morpeko however quickly drowned it out with his chewing on a seed that he was eating. bryan immediately got annoyed and whispered to it "Oi offer a payment as well, you need to pay respects." he said trying to hand it a coin before morpeko threw a seed into the shrine's saisen box.

[break][break]Bryan was mortified that Morpeko did that, it was innocent in nature but he quickly threw in some PD hoping to not anger the spirit of the shrine. Well, more fearful of a guardian Pokémon of the shrine becoming upset considering the recent events. He looked around to see if anyone noticed morpeko being a little stinker and saw Adrian hesitating. He walked over to him "I didn't really take you for the spiritual type. Then again I probably don't either." he said with a small cheeky grin on his face.

Of course, at this point Adrian couldn't be too superstitious. Ingratiating himself to the land spirits of Hoenn may yet offer tangible rewards, though he may never realize it. But perhaps that made him less than deserving; doing something only under the promise of reward wasn't virtuous. Just opportunism.

"But also... most of my pokemon were born here. Some remain atop Mt. Pyre... so honoring the land's customs is comforting, in some way."

The preceding spirits laid to rest here would hear their prayers, if none else were able and willing. Or at least, that is what he'd choose to believe.

"But what about you?" As the two diverted their attention, they wouldn't notice the kids fast at work with their mischief with some fireworks...

Ah, so he lost some pokemon huh? Bryan thankfully hadn't lost anyone important to him yet so he could only sympathize with him. "I see. I'm sorry to hear that." he said offering his condolences, as for himself well... that was a harder question to answer. Bryan wasn't the most spiritual person in the world, but he did respect the forces of nature and that these rituals served a purpose

"Well. I'm not the most spiritual person, but I do think that the people of hoenn had these rituals for a reason." he said calmly as he picked up morpeko and put him on his shoulder. "And now adays I'd rather not upset a pokemon or whatever the hell those..."ultra beasts" or whatever they're called. By not praying or doing whatever weird thing it wants and risk it turning on us as a whole. Better to do it and keep it happy if it exists" he shrugged in return.

"...That's one reason, I guess." Adrian himself could understand their perspective of ceremony; it was a karmic tribute. Though Adrian preferred to see it as ingratiating oneself to a benevolent spirit, rather than as cowing to an angrier, alien one...

Perhaps he was simply misunderstanding Bryan, but it was of no consequence. Both were able to offer a small gesture of prayer in relative quiet before things got chaotic, the sizzling fizzle of a firecracker's fuse igniting elsewhere within the shrine's enclosure. "The fuck's that noise?"

Maybe it's one of those angrier spirits...

Abruptly a firework burst into a shower of sparks as a roman candle went off within the building, preceded by a gang of kids scrambling out of the back of the shrine after torching the place.

Adrian flinched at the sight, though it paled in comparison to Blacephalon's attack. After taking a moment to steel himself, he was able to find the nerve to withdraw a pokeball, heaving it towards the problem: "Poliwrath, help us."

Its emergence on the field left everything damp after it flexed its muscles in a dominance display, before moving towards the source of the sparks, holding its hands up defensively as it approached the room housing the ignited fireworks.

Bryan jerked his head over to the direction of the noise and looked with shock on his face, he was a bit closer to the fire so he immediately backed up to not let it surround him before he could do anything about it. He frowned at the display as morpeko went into a panic on his shoulder. Bryan pulled out a pokeball from underneath his clothing and threw it out. A popping noise accompanied by the flash of light showed he released his Azumarill. "Azumarill help out poliwrath. Make sure to not break anything in the shrine if you can help it!" he said as she ran behind poliwrath gleefully and pumping her arms. Bryan followed behind Azumarill, braving the fire himself, leaving morpeko behind to make sure no one else was trapped inside of the fire "Is anyone in here?!"

Adrian followed after them all, peeking a head into any doorway they passed, trying to find out where the initial firework had gone off. What kind of kid does this crap anyways? It was a rhetorical question as he simply cursed their luck.

Eventually he comes across a room with black powder markings across the floor, with the linens of the drapes in tatters, releasing cinders into the air that glowed a resplendent orange. Here.

"Poliwrath, over here; Hy-" Adrian would've loved nothing more than to douse the fires with ubiquitous amounts of water, but glancing around the room, he realized how much of it was treasured antiques. "Rain Dance, now!"

If nothing else he hoped to avoid being blamed for the defiling of any relics, and let the embers take the fault along with those kids... That's when he calls out to Bryan:

"Didja see who did it?"

Bryan was exactly the type of kid who'd do shit like this when he was younger. However now it was his job to go in there and help those kids. [break][break]

Bryan took advantage of the raindance with azumarill and grabbed her hand as he gave her a command "Use aqua ring azumarill!" he said as a ring of water formed around the trio of him poliwrath and Azumarill, bryan spotted a kid and yoinked him into the aqua ring. "It's alright. I got you." he said as he responded to Adrian "Yeah I got one here!" as he held a kid crying and sobbing. He most likely got stuck by the flames as his fireworks went off he slowly began to lead the kid out of the fire with the Pokémon as well. [break][break]

The kid looked alright for the most part, he was mostly crying as bryan checked his body for burns. There were only a small mark near his hands but he would live. He guided azumarill over as the aqua ring began to work on the kid.

Adrian doesn't find much else, and simply escorts Poliwrath around the temple, helping to ease the fire to a halt. The shrine wasn't too packed to begin with, and many hadn't been so far in, so Adrian felt they had it under handle rather quickly. Bryan could handle it.

Some people's children... Far be it from Adrian to give the rapscallions responsible a lecture; that was somebody else's problem. But that wouldn't stop them from informing the caretakers, to make sure the kids were more carefully supervised from then on. By the sound of their cries, Adrian supposed this lesson had already been self-taught.

You just don't play with fire.

After quelling the fires Adrian made his hasty retreat, not wanting to implicate himself any further by sticking around. Hopefully Bryan's not too mad I ditched him without saying goodbye... Eh, he'll get over it.

Bryan looked around for adrian after the fired had died down. But like the ashes already scattering to the wind, this bitch fucking split as quickly as he could. Bryan let out a sigh, maybe the man didnt want to have the league or the police's eyes on him? Well the more Bryan thought about it he probably should get the hell out too. He didn't want his actions to draw attention to himself too. After he turned the boy over to some other people Bryan split as quickly as he could, morpeko leaving a seed for the boy to eat to feel better soon and azumarill aqua jetting the hell out of there behind bryan.
