the platforms on which the trainers reside are, luckily, slightly raised, so they can call out commands or encouragements.

he stares out at his opponent, also guided out on the hitching rope of the staffs jetskis, turning his wave onto him.

Zac stepped onto the floating platform. he waved to the crowd, and fixed Greyson with a shining grin. "Howzit going mate!" He asked, crossing the circular arena to shake hands with his opponent. In the background, the announcer had finished listing their accolades and had moved on to summarizing the rules.

"Yeah Stormy and I go way back! She was the gym leader at Lavaridge before me. Big shoes to fill!" Zac walked back over to his side, just as the announcer wrapped up.

"Natsuki! Time to get going!" Zac called, and his Feraligatr burst out of the waters surrounding the arena. It was dressed in bright red protective gear, and held a long, reinforced pool-whacker. "Stormy told me a bit about you too, Greyson!" Zac said, gesturing for him to take the first hit. "I've keen to see what you've got in store. Go on! Hit me with everything!"

he tosses a pokeball out, the ivory light forming into a blastoise. the armored sea-turtle looked at his opponent and smiled.

after a few moments, and with the assistance of some nearby, nervous staff members, the water-type is equipped in his own gear and pool-whacker.

when the voice announces the start of the fight, he wastes no time, going for a massive OVERHEARD STRIKE right on-top of the gator.[break]

An overhead strike? Zac realized with shock. That's one hell of an opener. Why, the only way to counter that is-
"Natsuki! Take it HEAD ON!" Zac shouted. There was a glint of recognition in Feraligatr's eye as the wrassling reptile launched itself fangs first into the path of the attack.

Its teeth closed on the battle baton, and a sheen of ice spread across Blastoise's weapon. It may be a technical hit, but that pool whacker wasn't going anywhere! And now Blastoise was trapped in close quarters and ripe for a wrecking.

greyson's voice rises with the crowds, pushing octaves above their screams of delight as the sky-tinted gator's fangs wrap around aiono's staff, freezing it.

but the blastoise didn't need to be told what to do— it was already moving. using it's thick, powerful head, the blastoise shatters the ice with a SKULL BASH.

he uses their close proximity to push the creature back, following with a strike at his opponent's LEFT SIDE.

The whacker shattered, and Feraligatr's jaws slammed shut on nothing. Blastoise lunged forward, smashing into the big reptile on her left side. Her weak side.

Feraligatr let the hit turn her away, spinning around and carrying the momentum into a whirling, battering Aqua Tail aimed right at the back of Blastoise's knees!

"Yeah! Put that turtle on its back!" Zac called. It was all in good fun though, as turtles getting stuck on their back was a serious, no-laughing matter.

aiono's knees hit the floatie and the entire thing shook under his weight. a groan escaped his sharp maw, though not from pain, but rather inflexibility. did anyone really think this massive turtle's joints were not constantly under pressure?

the solution was simple enough. aiono releases a ZAP CANNON upwards into the sky. it wouldn't hit the crocodile, but perhaps it'd blind it temporarily.

enough for him to strike back.

with all the force a turtle who's lost its footing, he struck out in an arc at the other creatures legs, attempting to bring it to his level.

The flash of sudden lightning blinded Feraligatr! The croc stumbled around, stomping wildly as she tried to hit her downed opponent. "In front of you! More to the left!" Zac shouted helpfully. Natsuki raised a heavy, clawed foot above Blastoise, right as the turtle spun around and swept her other leg out from under her.

Natskui hit the deck with a thud and a long, reptilian groan. She climbed to her knees. She shook her head, trying to clear it of the thudding. She blinked, fast and useless. Her vision was still filled with white patches and burned afterimages. "In front of you!" Zac called, and Natsuki launched herself clumsily forward in a blind BODY SLAM!

There was only one possible move that could save them now. It was a one-in-a-million shot. No. A one-in-a-hundred.

"Quick! Natsuki! Mimic!"

Feraligatr righted herself as best as she could towards the oncoming Blastoise. Still half-blind, her crest and skull hardened as she Mimicked her opponent's Skull Bash! With a terrifying, furious roar, she launched herself head first, towards victory or defeat.

Someway. Somehow Natsuki had pulled the victory out of NOWHERE! "Atta girl!" Zac said, leaping onto the main pontoon to give his gator a victory scratch. He scritched the scales up behind her ears, just the way she liked. "You're a legend! Amazing work Natsuki!" Zac hugged the smiling gator, and then encouraged her to go for a swim to cool off. She obliged, diving into the waters outside the main arena.

"Next? Okay let's see here...If you've got Empoleon then I'll counter with..."

Zac slapped the water, and his second Pokemon emerged. He was all thin legs and big claws. Banjo the Kingler! Banjo bubbled in apprehension. Empoleon looked like a tough opponent.

To start off the round, Kingler slammed his claw down on the pontoon, the CRABHAMMER setting the arena rocking, and possibly throwing Empoleon off balance.

Banjo grew hard-edged, and with a gleam of sunlight on sharpened shell, Kingler brought up his claw, meeting Empoleon's slash. CLANG! Sparks scatted across the pontoon. There were no soft noodles in this spicy battle.

The crab pushed the attack, holding off Empoleon with his larger claw and jabbing forward with the smaller one. The RAZOR SHELL of the claw whistled as it sliced through the air.
