“Razz!”

Sun shone bright on his shirtless back, still drying from his underwater battle with Rowan. He jogged to catch up, fitting part of a sandwich in his mouth as he did so and hoping not to choke. The resulting gait was a bit strange, but he made it.

When he reached the other ranger, his grin was warm and wide.

“Razz. Battle. Let’s go.”

The rest of the sandwich was devoured and he wiped his hands together to rid of crumbs into the sand, swallowing and smiling again.

Bo reached for a pokeball, regardless of whether Razz had answered, and released a Durant. It could walk along if Razz refused, but the hope was to put on too much pressure for the other to walk away.

Now.

Durant had resting bitchface, and looked impatient as well.

"I'll talk to you later," he grumbles as he was on his phone with his dispatcher as he hears his name being called. It's weird to hear others just knowing him. Honestly when he first came to Hoenn he never thought he would get to a place of that happening. "Uhh hey umm Maher right?" he questions as while as he's only worked with the other ranger once before. [break][break]

He can't help but step back a bit with how forward the other was. Admittedly part of him taken back as he was worn down. But Salem seemed pumped, and it gave the younger ranger the reminder that this was for his pokemon, not him. Especially with the Durant seeming impatient with him as well, "Uhh sure?" [break][break]

With that he calls out his new Riolu, feeling they could use the practice. The little pup punched the air, ready. "Uhh feel free to go first"

Razz seemed unsure at first, but luckily gave in without any protest. A shiny Riolu was released, and his eyes hung appreciatively at the rarity of it.

They had the first move.

“Alright, then.”

“Durant: METAL SOUND!”

A terrible metallic noise came from the rubbing together of its pinsirs, energy radiating and blowing out the frequencies, past the point of human aural capacity.

“Maher is fine,” he simply replies. Taking it more as the other was giving permission to call him something shorter because the last name was difficult to say, rather than thinking the other would rather have him call him by his first name. [break][break]

As the attack comes the Riolu has to cover his ears as metal sound comes, lowering his defenses some, but it wasn’t going to deter him from fighting. From afar Lion punches the air to send a force of wind at the ant with VACUUM WAVE.

Between the Riolu’s gold and Durant’s shimmering metal body, the fight was hotter—even a bit blinding to look at maybe, in the sunlight. Bo squinted at them a bit, having forgotten his sunglasses.

“Oh. Alright. That’s fine.”

VACUUM WAVE shot from small, yet powerful fists. It came quick, and Durant was unable to evade before taking the full force of the blow. It was knocked back by the wind and into the sand.

“Go underground and close the distance!”

The Durant, already halfway in the ground to begin with, burrowed with DIG, going under the sand towards the Riolu.

“Try and sense their aura, predict where they’ll come from,” Razz is sure to instruct. Lion wasn’t as used to his whistles like Dodger was so a bit more instruction was needed. So he closes his eyes, trying to feel out where the Durant could be. The golden Riolu’s ears twitched as it tried to sense the other’s aura. And while he finally sensed it enough when it got close, it wasn’t enough warning and was struck by the DIG. [break][break]

Razz has a backup plan as he gives a whistle. Lion’s hands glow white before they strike back at the steel pokemon while it was still close with the use of COUNTER

The COUNTER hit—hard. Durant was blown back by the force of it, taking on more damage than it had done with its previous move. It struggled to right itself again in the sand, silvery legs flailing for a moment before its abdomen finally rocked enough to get upright.

“There ya go. Hold back, now. METAL SOUND.”

Bo threw hands over his ears and winced as Durant rubbed its pincers together, creating an awful, deafening sound that drew plenty of uncomfortable stares from around them.

Lion could only cover his ears again as once more the Metal Sound lowers his defenses. Though two could play at this game. Without waiting for a command from his trainer, not that he could hear it well anyways with the way the metal sound was affecting his hearing. Lion clapped his hands together and used COPY CAT. From his hands radiating a METAL SOUND to see what the other felt like getting their own medicine.

Well, it seemed they would be going in a loop for now. They’d do something different next time, maybe. But, for this round:

“DURANT, DIG AGAIN! GET UNDER IT!” Bo could only hope his voice carried enough. It seemed to work, or maybe the Durant had the same idea. Duck for cover.

Under the sand, the sound would not be so debilitating. As soon as it was under, it moved again, towards the Riolu.

”Tch,” the younger man curses and once more the ant takes under the ground. Leaving them blind once more. An idea forms this time though as he gives a whistle, “On the ground!” [break][break]

With the whistle and order Lion begins to use ICE PUNCH on the ground around him. In a sense protecting himself with a large layer of ice as over and over the shiny Riolu adds a layer of ice to the sand. Seeing if it would make it more difficult for the ant to break though.

Bo watched the strategy play out with a chuckle in his chest. “Hey, that’s pretty clever, Kingsman!” And, Durant would surely be surprised.

The steel-type found that when it attempted to break the sand, there was no way to break through. The surface was cold, and made it shiver in its metallic joints. It didn’t turn back, though. Instead, it kept trying against what it soon realized was ice.

With a grown a frustration, X-SCISSOR went to work, pinsirs swinging in to chip away at the obstacle.

Good, was what he thought as the ice bought them some time. ”I have a decent idea every now and then,” Razz commented with only a small hint of a smile. More for Lion executing it rather than his coming up with the idea. [break][break]

Though he wasn’t going to do much small talk when Lion needed him in battle. They were too new to handle themselves. ”Up” Razz orders before giving another set up whistles. Lion jumps up and uses VACUUM WAVE at the ground to help break the ice and punch at the durant.

Bo laughed back and shook his head.

He knew it was over.

The Riolu’s VACUUM WAVE broke the barrier before Durant had time to react. Its Pinsirs were blown back painfully by the force, and it toppled back into its hole, FAINTED.

Waiting a moment to see if it might pop up from the ground, Bo didn’t move. However, it was soon apparent that the match had ended. He clapped for Razz’s victory like the good sport he was and went to collect his Durant from the ground, plopping down on the sand and reaching his whole arm in with a pokeball.

“Well, shit. Good job, Kingsman!” he called.

With the durant gone the Riolu cheers. Forgetting for a moment that there was ice under him and ends up slipping. [break][break]

He meant to do that. [break][break]

Though despite the win he doesn’t have the same amount of energy the other has. He gives a small smile as he tiredly rubs the back of his neck. “Ahh thanks, you and Durant did good too…” maybe he should say more than that. [break][break]
