Adrian would be clutching at two pokeballs in his dominant hand, awaiting a challenger on one of many impromptu stadiums that had popped up along Slateport's ocean front properties. Not every battle was so formal, nor their contestants, as could be seen by the state of Adrian, whom you could sum up in one expression: Rough around the edges. Even now he was growing impatient with standing about doing nothing.

"There must be someone willing to battle," he held his offhand up to his creased brow, throwing aside tussles of hair slick with a sweltering summer sweat.

“Guess I can keep you company for a while,” a voice punctures casually through the small crowd that had gathered around the battlefield, Angelo pushing his way to the front when nobody else seems to jump at the opportunity for a tournament match. [break][break]

Maybe they’re just not a competitive bunch? Most likely, it's Angelo who's hungrier for the taste of a new challenge – and for precious BP. He had to collect more points than a certain someone, after all. [break][break]

If there’s a flicker of recognition flashing in blue eyes for a brief breath, Angelo doesn’t latch onto it at the sight of his opponent. Instead he puts his focus on fishing around in a pocket for two capsules. [break][break]

“Double battle, right?” Angelo asks, pushing sweat damp hair back from off his face. “Ready whenever you are.”

"Yeah." Before him is a stranger, brandishing two pokeballs of their own. In a flash of light Adrian unleashes Grimmsnarl and Toxtricity, who seem to love the roar of the crowd. Wearing a cocky grin, he believes himself to be ready. It isn't until he recognizes the pokemon his opponent releases that he would begin to feel much less sure of himself. Hoenn has all kinds of great trainers, I guess...

Because his strategy revolves heavily around the application of status moves, he can't help but cringe at the Togekiss flitting through the air ahead of Toxtricity and Grimmsnarl. And that wasn't even the actual threat, he'd later come to realize, staring down the Salamence's INTIMIDATING demeanor.

"Awesome." Was he really ready, though?

"Omen, Reflect. Riff, soften 'em up with Overdrive."

Admittedly, Angelo didn’t have much experience with one of the other party’s pokemon. But Omen, at least by appearance, seemed appropriately named… [break][break]

“Nice pokemon.” He whistles in appreciation as his pair hover above the sand; Eltanin letting out a snort of smoke from his nostrils as their shadows stretch long. [break][break]

Angelo grins, fuelled by the a similar thrum of competitive energy when the electrifying move rushes out to meet his pokemon, his voice calling out over a backdrop of an excited crowd. “Ankaa, Dazzling Gleam! El – get ready.”[break][break]

Swooping in front of the Salamence, his Togekiss releases a brilliant flash of DAZZLING GLEAM towards the pokemon on the other side of the field, while Eltanain ascends higher to the skies – aglow with DRAGON DANCE.

"Thanks." Wasn't often he got compliments, except when pandered to.

Adrian cringed at the light glinting from Togekiss' form, knowing full well Omen was about to take a figurative beating. Holding an arm ahead of his eyes as a precaution, he watched the Salamence disappear above as his own grunted from the pain. That it wasn't attacking outright gave him pause, and he considered the likelihood of a Dragon Dance as it seemed to soar ever higher... and higher... and higher.

"Omen, Burning Jealousy." Wisps of flame began seeping from its enfeebled form, before it roared back to life, full of vigor. The searing wisps would reach out in a swathe of flames, scorching them both alike and leaving Salamence with a burn.

With the glint of flames simmering in his eyes, Adrian's fist clenched, and Riff was reborn; in an unknowable display of dark aura, Toxtricity's Electric-typing would be replaced by Dark, shifting its aspect. "Riff, Snarl."

With a twang of its nodules Toxtricity unleashed a shrill, piercing note of malintent.

“Shake it off, El. You’re fine.” Even though his brow pinches at the sight of burn marks from Burning Jealousy on his companion's scales, Angelo calls out an encouragement to the Salamence. Both of his pokemon had been struck but the dragon appeared to have been dealt a worse hand than his fairy counterpart. “Follow up with Earthquake.” [break][break]

At the behest of a glutaral, agitated roar from Eltanin’s throat, all those stuck on the ground would feel the battlefield begin to splinter and shake. Thankfully, EARTHQUAKE doesn't reach his flying pokoemon in the skies, although Angelo has to dig his feet in to brace himself. [break][break]

“Ankaa, Air Slash!” [break][break]

As he calls out over the sound of the Snarl that rips through them, Ankaa flies above and strikes her wings down, AIR SLASH sending an explosive burst of wind on top of the Toxtricity – SERENE GRACE active.

"Omen, Light Screen!" I shouldn't have neglected my defenses...!

Adrian was going to pay dearly for that, he would quickly realize.

Both of his pokemon were suffering staggered damage; for every blow they dealt, they received another, perhaps harsher than the last. Worse yet his opponent had pushed Riff in a corner, cowing him for the round with Togekiss' pesky attacks. $#@%!

What could he do about it, really? Sometimes your luck just... turned on you.

Pumping his fist skyward, Adrian resolves to make his own luck... Embedded in his wristband a faint glint of light can be discerned, a prelude to mega evolution.

It would still be a shot in the dark, but offered a glimmer of hope.

Taking advantage of the Toxtricity’s flinch, Angelo orders both of his pokemon to move in: Ankaa to seize the opportunity to provide support, Eltanin to strike. [break][break]

“Ankaa, Heal Bell! El, Flamethrower on Toxtricity!”[break][break]

In an angry retaliation for the burn that sends a sharp jolt along his scales, Eltanin shoots a FLAMETHROWER stream towards Riff, going on the offensive. Ankaa meanwhile, opposite of her teammate's vicious roar, lets out a soft melody. HEAL BELL coating the Salamence’s ailment in its soothing, healing glow. [break][break]

And at the right moment too, if his opponents shining wrist is anything to go by.[break][break]

In response to the challenge issued in the form of a sparkling punch towards the clouds, Angelo’s own stone, intertwined amongst the weaved threads of his beach-style bracelet, bursts into colour. [break][break]

Predictable to counter a mega with a mega? Perhaps. But with the song of competition in his blood, he really doesn’t give a shit.

While Angelo focused on bringing his team back up to speed, Adrian seized the opportunity to mega evolve his Toxtricity. Transforming in a brilliant incandescence, Toxtricity rose in stature, brandishing a crude instrument of greater amplitude. This guitar-like weapon surged like electricity as the lumbering beast held it in hand.

"Omen, get some Rest." Despite the current clamor of their battle, Grimmsnarl was able to focus while it remained undisturbed, meditating until it achieved a state of zen. Forced into a deep slumber, it recovered much of the damage it had sustained, recuperating its strength and recovering lost stamina. In the interim, Toxtricity struggled not to be conflagrated beneath the Salamence's intense heat before catching its second wind. "Alright, Riff! Show 'em whatcha got—STUN SHOCK!"

A rising electromagnetic field began to saturate the air, causing their hair to rise and the atmosphere to hum with the increasing dissonance. Static began to discharge wildly along the field as the axe-like instrument was raised overhead, and then—

Two orbs of light overtake the battlefield, one on either side that bathes their respective pokemon in a dazzling luminescence. When the energy disperses in a firework display of power and glow, both Troxicity and Salamence emerge anew; sharper and exuding strength in their altered forms. [break][break]

“El, take out Omen, now!” As the large tendril creature settles down for a nap, Eltanin’s large crescent wings glow silver, blades glinting in the Hoenn sun - STEEL WING activating. Like a sweeping scythe, the dragon rushes towards the resting pokemon, slicing past as it sits idle. [break][break]

Ankaa, meanwhile, had been caught up in the Toxtricity’s enhanced attack. She staggers in mid-air, injured and looking a little purple around the edges, as she lets out a pained chirp. “Get some distance, Ankaa.” Angelo orders, watching with a clenched jaw and a fierce set to his eyes as the Togekiss fires a DAZZLING GLEAM towards both opponents, using the blinding cover to flutter backwards.

"Let's show 'em we can get LOUDER!" Distance wouldn't save them from the righteous chords that Riff blared. As Salamence rushed in for Grimmsnarl and Togekiss unleashed another irritating burst of fae light, Toxtricity strummed the amplifying nodules on its body, sending out piercing notes that rattled the very brains in their skull. It was as though everything were vibrating, even their very vision seemed distorted by this eerie dissonance as their body was wracked with bad vibrations.

Despite its deep meditative sleep, Omen is ripped from its slumber by the ongoing uproar, waking up as the wings steeled over and poised to strike it come racing in a felling swoop. Instinctively it braces itself, uplifting an arm covered bristling hairs before striking forward with a parrying attack, contacting the Salamence's body with an extensive hair-like appendage before the wing hacks through it, scattering its ebony locks into the four winds. The battling was intense, probably his best match today.

"I almost wish it wouldn't end!" But they had seen the encore, and awaited the final act.

A laugh spills from his lips, revelling in the thrill of the challenge and the enthusiastic yell to arms from his opponent. Angelo thriving off the competitive clash, in keeping step with the push and pull of an even ground; adrenaline thundering through his veins and leaking through a flash of teeth. [break][break]

“What was that? I can’t hear you! Speak LOUDER!” Angelo calls, all grins and taunts. [break][break]

Staggering from Toxtricity’s focused attacks, Ankaa has no choice but to take the time to heal lest she faint, LIFE DEW sprinkling over herself and Eltanin in a soothing rain. Sacrificing her possibility to attack so that they could both recover. Thankfully, Eltanin has it covered… [break][break]

Joining the metal thrum of the Toxtricity’s attacks, EARTHQUAKE pulses through the ground once more like a backtrack of heavy bass, decimating the ground in which neither Salamence or Togekiss tread. The Mega Salamence adds in an additional roar of fury, his spirit still flaming bright. [break][break]

They had to be nearing the end of the show… In the spirit of their battle thus far, Angelo guessed it was near time for the closing number… [break][break]

“You ready? This is it!” [break][break]

Angelo’s hit with a rush of anticipation and just the slightest bitter for its inevitable end, too.

"You better not regret that!" Adrian relished a bold challenge.

"AMP IT UP, RIFF!" With their opponents readying their offensive and tending to their wounds, Toxtricity was afforded time enough for one final act of show boating. Raising its 'electric guitar' overhead and spinning it wildly in a display of dexterity, it built up amplitude all the while arcs of lightning streaming between its body and instrument. It wasn't until the interlude, that Salamence's earthquake raced along the ground towards them, that Riff caught the guitar in proper form and raised one hand high, bellowing in ecstasy before striking the charged conduit with a forceful strum.

Sheer concussive force caused a shockwave that burst outwardly from the epicenter and along the ground, kicking up the dirt and punching everything with the force of its sound. Salamence and Togekiss alike would be rocked where they resided in the sky, their internal balance stifled by the damage done to their ear drums. Even on his side, Grimmsnarl held its hands to its ears in anguish. Comms systems throughout the event blared with an audio feedback loop that left many cringing. Adrian himself was left stunned, hearing only the ring in his ears and the sensation of warmth trickling out.

Ahead of him, Riff's augmented form dispersed before collapsing to the ground. Plucking its pokeball from his belt wordlessly, he returned the pokemon. That was f#cking awesome, bud. Looking back to Grimmsnarl, he could see it was struggling to clamber forward towards the Togekiss, falling to its hands and knees before it...*

Angelo whistled in appreciation. At least, he thought he did, but it was hard to tell with burst eardrums. [break][break]

His hearing muffled by persistent ringing after being subjected to a front row seat at a mind-blowing solo performance, Riff’s final number is met with a grin. Inspiration and adrenaline coursing through Angelo’s veins in response to the sheer magnitude of its power. [break][break]

“Damn, alright, I heard that one.” He laughs out, shouting louder than he intended to, pushing through the feedback vibrating through his head. [break][break]

Eltanin and Ankaa didn’t seem quite as enthused as they wobbled to keep afloat in the air, their balance thrown off by the shattering BOOMBURST.[break][break]

Shuddering from the poison, Ankaa practices caution, releasing an AIR SLASH storm after the Salamence and towards their remaining opponent. Eltanin takes flight towards Omen, ruby red coated in a glossy layer of STEEL WING as he rushes towards the bent form, pushed faster and fiercer on the equally slicing winds of Ankaa’s attack.
