The breeze blowing off the ocean, cool as it was, did little to alleviate the blistering sun. The Galarian boy prayed that next summer the tournament theme was all about air conditioned gyms. None the less, here he was for his next bout. Just like any of his previous matches thus far, this combatant was familiar to him.

Chu-e Choi was one of Hideo Kino 's acquaintances. His existence became fully known to him at the festival earlier that year, until it had been attacked by some poke diety. But then, he recalled that he had fought a few pokedieties along with this dude. Was he unlucky or were there just too damn many pokegods?

''You're that one guy...'' pressing an index finger to his chin in observation. ''Whatever. Let's get this show in the road.'' Hand falling away, he drew a pokeball and tossed it to reveal a shedinja. Its soulless eyes drank in the surroundings with indifference. Speaking of eyes...

''Keep your eyes open, Husk.'' No acknowledgment came, but the empty creature used mind reader none the less. While shedinja wasn't the best pokemon ever, it could be an irritant if one didn't have a counter. A gamble, but it wasn't as if this tournament was going great for him as it was.

So, Andy Blackadder ... a familiar face....

Actually, if the kid would let him, Chu-e needed to talk to him after this match about something important.

"Hey! It's Hideo's friend!" Even though they had met pokegods with each other twice, that's what he mostly knew Andy from.

The Shedinja was an interesting choice. They tended to be easy enough to take out, being very fragile physically. Yet, what would the fun in that be? This tournament was fun for Chu-e so far but he wasn't really in it for some total domination. He wanted to test out some of his less-used pokemon.

Tossing out a pokeball, a Carbink twirled in place but peered at the Shedinja curiously. A few quick snaps and the Carbink's ears perked up before her eyes glowed blue, spikes of rocks jutting from the ground and lining the field.

''Husk, in the ground.'' The carbink's move was familiar to him. John Sullivan used it quite often. Dig shouldn't have been effected by it, but it would pose an issue to other pokemon he wanted to use, should he have to employ them. Thankfully it wasn't as much of an issue for his ghost types as it would be for others.

Finally only using one type of pokemon didn't completely bite him in the ass. Either way, an eerie glow flashed in the eye holes of the empty pokemon and it sank into the earth as if it were the surface of serene pond. Normally movement in such a manner took forever, but luckily the little arena they utilized here on the beach wasn't too large.

Exploding from the ground, the shedinja's horned halo would likely impact the carbink from the bottom. Although he was uncertain just how effective it would be. This pokemon wasn't one he had run into before, so he just had to wing it. Such was the nature of battles. It might not have been a bad idea to have brought his rotomdex, but he was unsure if such things were considered cheating.

"Ooooooh...." When Andy Blackadder's pokemon sunk into the ground, he placed a hand on his chin and watched closely. Chu-e had heard of these things and saw a picture once, but he had never actually seen one. Was it part Ghost type to do that? Creepy. Chu-e really didn't like ghosts.

A sharp and high 'fweeet!' of a whistle and the Carbink huffed. The Dig had knocked her out of whack and spun her around. It took a moment to land eyes on her opponent again. When she did, she did as she was ordered- trying to lift a big rock to Smack Down the Shedinja.

It was an empty skin, so without its wonder guard it was useless. Why was it that now matter what pokemon he brought to these, every trainer had exactly what they needed to counter him.

Whose fixing these damn fights?! It had reached his ear that there was betting on these matches, but if he had to guess the ones that saw any real money involved much higher profile trainers than himself. Not that it mattered as far as betting went for himself. While wealthy, he only gambled with his life.

That being said, any time there was money involved so was there corruption.

''Alright then,'' Andy said tilting his brow downwards as the shedinja beamed backed within his ball. ''Like to hit hard do you, ya crusty shit?'' Tossing his next premier ball, the towering form of dhelmise appeared. ''Skyler Dross, annihilate this fossilized turd.'' The anchor's chain clanked as it reeled back.

With a harsh metal racket, anchor shot blasted across the sand towards the carbink, the weight of its hit amplified by steelworker. While he had considered the pokemon rather niche, more and more he found himself relying on the dhelmise for its size and power, which was precisely why he had chosen the correct namesake.

The attack slammed home, making the Carbink hit the ground. Her little ears twitched but otherwise she couldn't move. Chu-e sighed but called her back.

"You did your best! Hey, kid, that thing is strong! What is it?" Chu-e had never seen a Dhelmise before. If you had asked him, before this moment, he never would have even guessed something like that existed. Then again, his only real expertise was Fairy types and cats. He had a vague knowledge of poison, steel, and dragons, but only because they were important to know for his specialization.

Anything outside of that was hit or miss.

Since Grapefruit was down, Chu-e hemmed and hawed for a moment between the other two pokemon he had for this match... since he had no idea what this thing was, he had no idea how to counter it.

Guess he just needed to use what he had.

Contessa was sent out, the shiny Hatterene huffing slightly. She did seem a bit cowed by the larger pokemon, but a quick whistle from Chu-e and she was centering herself with a Calm Mind

The dhelmise's grumbling about the stealth rocks had gone unnoticed to the boy (as I totally forgot about them), as he was paying more attention to the effects of the monster's power. The pokemon rarely disappointed and he wondered why everyone didn't have one of these.

''Dhelmise, the sea terror,'' he answered man's question. ''They're rare.'' While the veracity of that statement wasn't exactly known to him, he hadn't remembered ever battling another. His opponent's next pokemon was familiar to him though. He and hatterines rarely got along...

''A shiny?'' The question was more a rhetorical one for himself. This one appeared different from Hideo Kino's, so the answer seemed obvious. Either way, there was something that felt devilishly good about his coming command after having to deal with his friend's hostile hatterine.

''Shiver her timbers, just like the last time, Skyler!'' Perhaps he was utilizing the dhelmise as a one trick pony, but he had yet to see any pokemon stand up to the steelworker enhanced anchor shot. With a clanking of its chain it reeled back the anchor to repeat the previous move with no less gusto.

Contessa tried to put out a Dazzling Gleam before the attack could hit.

She wasn't fast enough, the Steel type move slamming her down and knocking her out in one hit.

While she was strong, she was more a glass canon than anything. Shame, since it laid her out.

Chu-e sighed. Maybe this was one of those times that being a Fairy Type trainer kind of sucked.

Well...

"Okay, last one!"

His Mawile was sent out. At least she wouldn't go down to a steel type move so easily.

Nothing felt better than seeing a hatterine get one hit KOed. Ever since he had gotten into a fistfight with Hideo Kino's, he had been spoiling to see one beaten down. Of course now if a rematch ever occurred he would know what pokemon to use in order to put that thing in its place. The next pokemon he had seen while out hunting, as he recalled.

Mawile was partly steel type, just like his dhelmise. Chu-e Choi had figured out his pokemon pretty quickly, but then with the typings melting through his lineup like butter, it was likely pretty obvious. Still, just because Andy had seen the pokemon before didn't mean he was going to underestimate it. So he would try a curve ball.

''Skyler, use whirlpool.'' As vapors coalesced into droplets before forming a swirling torrent around the mawile, a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. Even he had to admit to himself, this was a bit of a dick move. Although he rarely had the chance to use it. Typically a given situation was too broad for such a high commitment technique.

Andy Blackadder I love you my dude but I am so tired of writing battles. We're gunna skip right to the end of this one.

So after a long battle of Andy beating down his Mawile, who did her best, she eventually fainted and Chu-e sighed and called her back.

"Damn, kid, you beat my ass." But, he laughed lightly, not really insulted.

There was a quick moment when he hopped from his place and motioned to Andy.

"Can I talk to you for a hot minute? Just real quick before our next scraps."

His pokemon having done well, the boy thought to leave with the anchor in tow. Given that it was a haunted clump of seaweed possessing a maritime object, he wasn't exactly sure what could be offered as a reward beside a wailmer. And those weren't just lying around everywhere. Most combatants had little to say to him, win or loss, so he stopped when Chu-e Choi approached him.

"Nah, I just like teasing Hideo. I actually wanted to talk to you about the Church of Arceus incident a few months back." At this he frowned, looking a touch more serious. Strange, since he was in his strawberry outfit.

"I'm a retired officer, did a lot of work in Kanto... still have a few connections, though. Has anything weird happened to you since then? Anyone strange approached you?"

Or maybe Chu-e was just too used to being around them thanks to Cillian Quinn and his Lugia.

"I meant more, anyone approaching you about your piece of the plate that you had there." Chu-e had been there too, had mostly just been quiet. Then again, a lot had happened what with Zac Ramsay getting his piece stolen.

"I've been trying to track down the people who were there. I have reason to believe someone is trying to target all of you to take your plate pieces."
