it shouldn't be as much of a surprise to him as it is, the fact that Chu-e Choi is on the other end of the battlefield — or in this case, the sky-field.

[break][break] in the midst of hoenn star tournament activities, jayden sat one one end of the jousting field. his mount of choice is his eelektrik, one of the few pokemon in his arsenal that could fly and not have him disappear straight through it. the unfortunate result of being a ghost-specialist.

[break][break] "chu-e," he says, calling to the other. in his hand is a long spear, meant to knock his opponent off balance. jayden dips his head to the underboss. always polite, of course. "you can go first."

His Drampa had already flown him around once today. Yet, the pokemon hadn't actually gotten to battle that time. This time, Poppins wasn't really battle battling but... well, this was pretty fun! The idea of doing more novel battles other than just fighting was a nice idea. Even better when it allowed him to go up against jayden cross.

"You sure?" He calls out over the wind, the soft-tipped spear held awkwardly as he sat akimbo. Yet, he shrugged and urged his pokemon forward.

the wind whistles around him, jayden's back slightly lowered as he grips the eelektrik beneath him. it isn't the first time he rides aurelus — but it certainly isn't something that jayden makes habit of. if possible, he prefers his feet on the ground.

[break][break] though, he has to admit, it is a bit whimsical to think — is this what his ghosts feel like?

[break][break] jayden gives a curt nod to the other, a small smile. "yeah, i'm sure."

[break][break] and with that, the battle commences.

[break][break] as agreed upon, chu-e and his drampa surge forward first. jayden waits, throwing his own spear up just in time to block the other's attack. pressing his heel lightly against his pokemon, he propels aurelus forward. he flies far past chu-e before then circling around, surging forward with his own spear out-stretched. electricity crackles around the polearm with the power of SPARK.

Poppins got a firm poke on the backside from trying to dodge the hit. He sent a sharp Glare at jayden cross and his pokemon for touching his butt. How rude!

Chu-e laughs, loud and bright, urging his Drampa to turn around as he keeps fumbling with his lance. Charging forward, his tongue is stuck out a little as he concentrates on trying to get his own point.

pain surges along his arm where the polearm meets skin, electricity crackling. he tries to aim for chu-e's arm, but instead finds the polearm touching the fleshy skin of his drampa's backside.

[break][break] heat flushes jayden's neck as the other lets out a glare in his direction. jayden isn't sure what it is — the drampa's glare, the sound of chu-e's laughter, loud and bright, that makes his skin tingle. the boy is red in the face, paralyzed for a moment.

[break][break] it's why he's unprepared as chu-e pokes him, garnering the other a point.

[break][break] his eelektrik lets out a rumble of discontent, awakening jayden once more. he blinks and then nods at the pokemon. "sorry," he mumbles, still caught off-guard. then with a slight kick, he postures himself and directs the pokemon to charge once more. this time, aurelus opens his mouth with CRUNCH. with the drampa distracted, jayden postures his polearm; hopefully for another point.

Not wanting to get poked in the butt again, Poppins managed to toss up a Light Screen just in time to avoid another poke from the other.

Chu-e aimed down his sights at jayden cross again, still flushed and grinning.

This was scary but also kind of exciting! He wondered who would be the first to get all the points.

At least if something dumb happened and one of them fell, they were over open water.

His pink Wailord was a beacon below, waiting to keep them from drowning just in case.

"Nope!!" Is called back, voice light. "Poppins is my Flier, but I've never done all this before!" For a long time Chu-e got very seasick and airsick. It was only his prolonged stays on the sub that had made it easier for him to manage things like this.

'Have you?" Is asked back, Poppins dipping under the attack. He huffs, another Glare sent at jayden cross and his pokemon before Chu-e tries to poke back.

so it was new. for the both of them.

[break][break] for some reason, there is something that accompanies the thought — a pleasant flutter in his chest, that makes him feel more lighthearted than any pat on the head from Cillian Quinn or Raphael Pryde he'd received as a youth.

[break][break] expectantly, chu-e is quick to throw the words back at him and jayden answers with a shake of his head. "no!" he says back, his voice carrying over the wind. "it's new for me too!"

[break][break] the eelektross is paralyzed in place once more by the other's glare, giving ample time for chu-e to strike jayden. the boy throws his arm up, bracing for the impact. he winces.

[break][break] "c'mon, aurelus! let's go." a click under his breath, and the eelektross releases a GRASS KNOT towards the other pokemon, attempting to entrap him in a tangle of thorns and vines.

"Poppins! Swoop on in! Quick, quick!" The Drampa huffs but does as he's told, turning tail to charge at jayden cross. His Outrage turns to steam power, in appearance, helping him pick up a bit of speed as Chu-e tries to line up his next shot.

The problem with Outrage is that one you start it can't be stopped. Poppins will have to wait until he runs out of steam on his own. He charges like a train, narrowly avoiding giving Chu-e a poke.

"Just beginner's luck, I think!" He hadn't even been keeping count of who was winning. This was just fun.

the outrage doesn't lose steam, but aurelus is determined not to give up either. flames lick the air around him as he continues to use flamethrower to avoid the other's moves, dashing about in short pulses whenever chu-e wanders too close.
