SCORN FILLS WHAT LITTLE REMAINS OF HIS EYES. They narrow with the slighted blight of disapproval. For once, her answer takes him by surprise. Not out of sheer stupidity–something he has long come to accept–but because his whole point was contingent on her answering ‘yes’.

“Explains a lot.”

He recovers by never faltering in the first place. A vague, generic statement fill his repertoire of tools. Fernando buries the conversation with a trailing cliff hanger.

He leaves the foyer first to invite her in further. They have much to discuss.

The memory of her rescue of the commissioner is a weight she still bears, a nightmare she still lives. Her actions then had been detrimental and pivotal in her growth and every struggle that had come with it. This felt no different, and yet it felt far worse.[break][break]

"Just what he was working on: a way to help the people who are overlooked, the ones forgotten and stepped upon in our 'blaze of glory'."[break][break]

She's paraphrasing, and in the moment seems to stumble over what it is she knows - which is virtually nothing. [break][break]

"His research was going into revitalizing and restoring Hoenn, or at least that's what he said. He wanted to protect the region and its people. He was.. building shelters and buildings for refugees where the League was unable to. He confided in me some evidence of uncertainty with Rocket's current goals not aligning with his own. The correction is as sharp as the subject matter. Whatever spiel he’s seduced her with has no power over him. Fernando cares little for others and nothing at all for those that cannot help themselves. The whole weeping cry of a region fraught with poverty is as relevant as the Ranger’s budget.

“The League builds plenty. People refuse to use the aid provided for them. Whether they’re stubborn or stupid matters not.”

He scoffs.

“And where is he now?”

Stormy's brows come together at his abrupt correction. It stings, as if he's turned the blame off of himself and onto her- when in reality it was really no one's fault.[break][break]

"... Right."[break][break]

Her voice is stiff, and memories of their more recent 'blaze of glory' more specifically his with the typhoon and the flashy z-move and the crazy shit on Mt. Chimney come to mind. Those that hadn't been able to fly had been in danger as a result of his actions, however crucial he had been in protecting the region and himself.[break][break]

She understood his motivations, but he was still responsible in some small part.[break][break]

"Sure, but maybe what they're building isn't accessible to some who really need it."[break][break]

But he's right, or right enough that she doesn't have the energy to argue. It isn't worth it.[break][break]

"I don't know where he is. I haven't heard from him in days and he isn't home. He's.. gone."

SHE MAY NOT HAVE THE ENERGY BUT HE CAN GO ON FOR DAYS. And, knowing his arrogance, he will. She should know by now that he has to have the last word. At least until it loops around once or twice. Very rarely does it bore him into quitting.

“Impossible to tell until we fix the bigger problem; most of them won’t use it.”

Another scoff boils from her answer but he mulls on it a second later.

“What made you think he was different. What about him made you wrong?”

Fernando does not mince words. His opinion is fact and is presented as such. He finally breaks away from her in a bid to recline deeper into his apartment. It brings him to the kitchen where the sound of glass resting against a countertop comes into play.

“You jump into situations you have no business being in without thinking. I don’t trust your decision making nor for you to make a judgement based of logic instead of emotion.”

A top is unscrewed. It clambers against marble before the sound of liquid pours through the silence.

“But I trust that you’re not malicious. I trust that you will grow–albeit slower than I’d like.”

Everyone makes mistakes. It was what made them human.

Stormy frowns a bit, but has the sense and the humility to wait for him to finish. She follows after him at first with her eyes, taking him in as he walks away and into the kitchen. Slowly, the woman sets her coat down and follows him.

His tone is matter-of-fact, and her attention instinctively watches the liquid pour rather than meet his gaze. Not that he might even be watching her. She inhales, neither comforted nor discomforted by his candor.

"You set an impossible standard, you know."

The woman's eyes glance up, betraying her jest. Her lip twitches up in a slight smirk.
