He'd visited his first sauna when he was thirteen years of age with his father. Back then, he couldn't even imagine why adults enjoyed such a 'dreadful and uncomfortably hot' experience. And, for over a decade, he never went back to try it.[break][break]

The sauna craze seemed to have hit Hoenn like a wave recently, however, and the ambassador had tried it a few times since then and found a liking for it. The stress of his duties simply seemed to melt away whenever he left the place. And, strangely enough, sitting in an almost unbearably hot room for such a long period of time was nothing compared to the other odd forms of punishment he'd put himself through before.[break][break]

Sitting on the bottom row of benches lined up against the wooden walls, with a white towel wrapped around his waist and nothing more, he meditates. Then the sound of the door sliding open across the spacious, steamy lounge draws his attention.[break][break]

A cliché can be a terrible thing, and yet, they’re real and prevalent and will always exist.

High profile members of powerful criminal organizations enjoying an afternoon sitting upon the wooden benches of a sauna? A cliché, and yet one true, as Mars himself could easily confirm, for his own upbringing had been littered with afternoons like these – forced into steaming sauna rooms while his grandfather discussed all manner of “business” with both associates and lackeys.

’Forced,’ for back then he had dreaded it, even if a single complaint would have cost him greatly.
[break][break]
These days though? These days there is no forcefulness to it, and the man seeks the healing warmth of steam out of his own volition, which perhaps only speaks of how he’s becoming more and more like the old man with every passing minute.

What a grim thought. One that, thankfully, is pushed out of his mind the moment the door opens to the sight of someone else already sitting at the sauna.
[break][break]
”Oh.” He had assumed he would be alone, but Mars is nothing if not a social creature, and company is welcomed with a calm and perfect smile. ”I didn’t realize there’d be anyone else here.”

Not just anyone, this he’s well aware of, but he doesn’t bother with correcting himself as he sits on the nearest bench – leaning back with a heavy sigh. Stress has found its way into his life for a lot of reasons as of late, and the warmth of the room is welcomed.

And so, it seems the cliché persists for yet another day.

Awkward encounters in saunas were not uncommon, especially when it involved those who weren't as experienced with the pastime. Normally, patrons of this business would offer strangers little more than a nod or wave in greeting before silently finding their seat. While the lad who'd just entered seemed to have broken this unspoken tenet with speech, however, Remiel found no discomfort in responding.[break][break]

"Remiel Calcifet, at your service," He says in introduction, lolling his head back as the steam clears his sinuses and filters through his lungs. "Everyone else is usually out for lunch at this hour..."[break][break]

Usually, he’d play by the rules and allow whoever he’s stuck with at the sauna to meditate or ponder on whatever thoughts they happen to be pondering, but today that just won’t do.

Silence is like a plague; it’s a poison that consumes and spreads. It leaves him alone to dwell in his thoughts; to consider all the things he doesn’t wish to consider about this day – all the reason why he’s here alone, all the things that had not gone as expected.

Conversation serves as a good distraction, and so it seems he will converse with Remiel Calcifet.

This, he doesn’t mind, as things like these have always been what Mars finds comfort and relishes in.

”True enough, and I suppose that makes it a good time for those who don’t wish to be disturbed. Apologies if I have ruined that for you.” There is no actual apology in his tone, but it is still calm, and it is polite, and there is still a smile that’s full of charm. ”Martín del Mar, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

In fact, for once, I feel inclined to engage in conversation... or, perhaps, the steam is having some sort of unintended effect on my demeanor." He chuckles, lifting his head to exchange a nod. Outside, past the window, a Magmar unleashes a FIRE BLAST into the smoky sky that brands it with a glorious '火' for moments before dissipating. The royal turns to regard the sight and admire it. In the meantime, however, the realization of Martin's identity slowly begins to dawn on him.[break][break]

Usually, people would close their eyes and try to relax at places like this. Meditate, maybe. Let all their concerns be swept away with the rising steam.

Mars does none of these things.

He does relax, or seem like he is and actually try to, at least, because he’s here for that reason alone. But, never being one to allow himself to lower his guard in the presence of a stranger, things like closing his eyes and meditating are something he simply won’t do. It’s a habit that was forced into him too long ago to be easily broken, and he’s not sure he would ever want to break it – especially in this particular instance, when being all too aware of who's in this sauna with him.

Since Remiel had mentioned everyone else usually being out for lunch at this hour. Mars is observant, and he doesn’t miss things like those, even if they seem like passing comments and nothing more. Information can be gathered from every word.

Remiel chuckles. "These days? I guess you could say that. But I only really started coming here frequently about a month ago, I'd say... before that, I found this luxury quite... confusing. After being asked for any recommendations, Remiel pauses to think... before, eventually, gesturing towards a pile of steaming rocks in the corner. They've been placed within a specific tiled square, set apart from the wooden floor, with a metal drain at its center. Beside it, a faucet with a heat-proof handle and a bucket await. "If you care to increase the humidity, you're free to make use of that station there."[break][break]

There had been a time when Mars had hated the mere thought of saunas, but then he had learned that hatred is not something that should be so easily assigned to things that are inconsequential and meaningless in the long run. Hatred is meant for things that truly cause harm in his life. Hatred doesn’t belong in a sauna.

Especially not one with Remiel Calcifet, because so far the ambassador has earned no such feelings – not on Mars’ part, at least, as he can’t speak for other people on this.

The prince takes a moment to lean his head back and feel his pores exfoliating as Mars moves to increase the humidity. Closing his eyes, he hears the soft pad of the other man's bare footsteps against the wooden floor... the faucet being turned... the pipes churning before they spew out water, echoing as it splashes inside the bucket. Then, of course, the distinct splash and sizzle after the water is poured over the hot stones.[break][break]

The room suddenly fills with a thick cloud of steam, and Remiel opens his eyes to witness it before chuckling. "Well done, lad," He comments, holding his hand out in front of him and losing it in the warm fog. "Careful on your way back. I can't see a thing."[break][break]

As if heavy fog, steam fills the sauna, clouding the vision of both men within. A hand rests on the wall for support and in order to find his way back to his seat, but instead of finding it relaxing, Mars can’t help but think of how vulnerable he is in this situation – without weapons, without pokémon, blinded by the steam....

It makes him uneasy, for it goes against his every instinct and everything he was taught as a kid. It’s not a situation he should enjoy or feel relaxed in, this he knows within.

And yet, he smiles so very easily, all of these thoughts and all of these feelings remaining hidden within – ever one to conceal the kind of cautious person he actually is.

”That’s pretty nice, in most saunas I’ve been to you just press a button to turn up the heat. Not nearly as authentic, I guess.”

A chuckle leaves him as he takes a seat, leaning back against the wooden boards of the wall.

Amidst the thick fog that continues to linger in the sauna room, Remiel stands up, finding the need to stretch a little as Martin manages to find his seat again. "Do you prefer authentic?" He inquires, not a stranger to modern pleasantries himself but partial to traditional practices anyway.[break][break]

Meanwhile, as the fog slowly begins to clear, he's unaware that one of his stretches has slackened the tightness of the towel around his waist. It droops slightly lower than before, exposing bare back dimples upon his toned lower back. All unbeknownst to him at the moment of course.[break][break]

Thankfully for Remiel, Mars isn’t paying him enough attention to notice the way his towel came loose. There is awareness of his presence, of course, as it would be foolish to lower his guard near someone he barely knows, but aside from that, the bank CEO is all too caught up in his own thoughts…

The ambassador straightens in posture, finishing his stretches with a relaxed sigh. "Both, really," He answers. "I find the majority of people these days prefer what's most convenient. It makes our sphere of exploration and experience smaller. Traditional practices, on the other hand, are a good means of grounding oneself from those luxuries."[break][break]

Having to get up and do things manually was exactly charming to the ambassador. Then again, charming wasn't exactly something he prized too often either— unless it was to be employed in the art of political dealings and social influence, of course. He turns over his shoulder to gauge the man's expression as he continues, amused by the lingering smirk.[break][break]

"Would you consider your background and upbringing to be 'traditional' in any sense?" He inquires, daring to pry a little deeper and discover whether this was a man born from money or not.[break][break]
