“You gave me a fucking fright right there,” he remarked as he looked over at the line—it wasn’t moving again, as usual. Maybe because they were talking so loudly near the water’s edge.

Either way—

This time there was a Charjabug that had wandered foolishly towards the space where the Lucario was attempting to relax, preparing by Charging up before tunneling into the ground via Dig.

This meant that the Charjabug had a very slight advantage—

However the Lucario was quick to move, having noticed the aural vibrations in the air shifting as the Charjabug came bursting out of the ground—and ended up hitting nothing.

However it ended up walking straight into a full-on Aura Sphere blast of energy that knocked it skywards, sending it crashing near the shore.

“Oh. Hey, I’ll take this one. I know someone who collects these,” he said as he threw an empty Pokéball at the Charjabug.

Although he couldn’t help but wonder—was there some kind of shade thrown somewhere? Just because he’d picked up the Charjabug?

Anyway—

The fishing line finally moved—and he made to grab it. Wondering what was on the end of it, he attempted to reel it in, only to be met with a—

“Oh, come on, that’s not a Slowpoke! Or a Lanturn,” he sighed as he saw a Floatzel’s head poke above the water line. Shaking the lure loose, he then let the Water-type get out of range before recasting the line once more.

matias watches as something finally latches onto the end of lars' hook, and much to his surprise, it's a floatzel. no idea why it decided to bite onto the bait like that when it could just pull the rod in. it's smart enough, isn't it?

either way, his attention shifts to the STICKY HOLD accelgor who sticks itself onto one of his cloysters. the water-type shakes in the water in an attempt to get it off, but that just seems to empower the accelgor's STRUGGLE BUG.

thankfully, the other two cloysters come in clutch with their ICICLE CRASHES.

The line twitched once, twice—and then suddenly Lars is reaching out to grab it, to reel whatever was caught on the end of the line in.

He sincerely hoped, wished that it was either a Lanturn—or at the very least one of the four Slowpokes that he needed to document.

For a few moments his face puffed up, like they had cheek pouches before the line finally soared out of the water—

Only to reveal a Horsea.

Shame, he already had Styx the Kingdra.

“Well, I can’t let you tell all your friends where we are now, can we…” he remarked, reaching for the line and dropping the Horsea into the bucket.

“Fishing technique, can’t scare the others away when one of their kind get caught. They’ll be released later when we’re done here, don’t worry. Someone from Alto Mare taught me,” he explained in Matias’s direction.

but that makes sense. he realizes now why most of the fishermen he sees on docks and stuff have buckets next to them. it's likely for the same reason as lars just explained.

"i'll have to get a bucket next time i go fishing."

not that he ever goes fishing, though.

what's the point when pokemon show up on land? even water-types like surskit, for example. it simply floats right towards them and into the powerful ICICLE CRASH of his cloysters.

and into a pokeball it goes.

The only thing the second Charjabug did the moment it appeared was want vengeance on their missing companion—

Hilariously the one that Lars had caught earlier.

Letting out a loud noise, the Charjabug then flung its body forward, an attempt to take a Bite out of the Lucario—

Only to be stopped in mid-air by a powerful burst of Psychic energy from the Metagross, sending it crashing to the ground. Another attempt was made via String Shot however the secondary burst of Psychic energy proved to be too much before another red beam of light attempted to spare it from more suffering.

“The hell, another Charjabug?” Lars remarked at the sight.

speaking of bugs, a scolipede rolls into the scene, splashing into the water for whatever reason. maybe it's to get its VENOM DRENCH off its skin. either way, it allows the cloysters to simply stick out their ICICLE CRASHES to send the scolipede back out and into a pokeball.

"maybe he'll even name a flavor after you."

that's the dream...

four slowpokes seem like a big ask! it took matias years in kanto to gather up his slowkings and slowbros, so lars would likely have to wait the same.

yet another combee appears for Greyson Connors. who would've thought matias would be helping source pokemon for the young officer's farm? or is it a ranch?
