“Returning the question on me now, are you?” he chuckled again, once the other Braviary had been captured in the red beam of light and whisked away.

“Of course I do! I mean—how else would I be the nu—how else would I be one of the region’s premiere flying-type… theme… experts around these parts?” he added a few moments afterward.

He didn’t want to boast, so he downplayed it somewhat!

Before he could continue, though—there was a sight for sore eyes that just happened to wander their way—and this time the Bounsweet that was hanging on the other side of the wheelchair let out an excited chirp, before pointing at the—

“Scatterbug!” he exclaimed, quickly reaching into the open paper bag he had and fishing out the rest of the treats—he still had a few more sealed paper bags with him, so this one was already fully depleted—and then began offering them to the Bug-type.

Why this one?

He didn’t have a Vivillon yet, that was why!

The Scatterbug eyed the food in his uninjured hand nervously, giving it a few tentative sniffs before nibbling on the smallest piece it could reach.

The Bounsweet made a whining noise, and Alexei sighed.

“Alright, fine, one piece for you,” he said as he plucked one of the other remaining pieces and fed the Grass-type, watching as the Scatterbug worked its way through the handful of Pokéfood he had.

One, two—several pieces later—the entire handful was consumed, before said Scatterbug rolled onto his open hand to sleep, having eaten its fill for the day.

“…damn, they’re really greedy when they’re tiny.”

venusaur (f) overgrow - sleep powder, vine whip, worry seed, seed bomb, solar beam, take down

zarude (-) leaf guard - power whip, hammer arm, jungle healing, synthesis, grass knot, bind

that's true! matias doesn't know anyone else who has as many birds as alexei does. man's a crazy bird man.

a thwackey runs up at them with the clear intention to smack them with its sticks. zarude leaps in front of it, stopping it from coming any closer. but still, it persists.

its DOUBLE HIT bounces off zarude's fur only to be smacked away by a strong HAMMER ARM. the grass-type's sent flying.

Now that the Scatterbug was squared away, the Bounsweet on his lap rolled back to the other side of the wheelchair, to check if there was anything coming from the opposite side.

“Damn, I think I just hit a milestone there,” he hummed, fishing out his phone and then scrolling until he found something he was looking for.

“Well shit, I did!” he exclaimed as he scrolled through the app he’d opened before checking his Pokégear (that nifty little watch he wore on his left wrist) which had been going off like crazy.

“Apparently I got all those bugs and moths… have you heard about this app?” he asked Matias, showing the other the interface.

“They’re trying to get something like a Pokédex going with live entries, nothing like the static information available. It’s like this huge-ass effort across everyone using the app.”

He knew, because a friend of his was in on this shit.

A Pinsir came waddling their way, but he paid it no attention as he already had one.

matias looks over at alexei's pokegear, shaking his head. it looks familiar but it's not like anything he's ever seen before.

"so it's a pokedex except it's in your watch?"

kinda reminds him of the unown report as well. the thought sullies his mood just a little.

What was better than two Braviary?

Three Braviary as a matter of fact!

Another loud screeching noise pierced the quiet above them—but this time it wasn’t the blue-plumed avian who came in for the attack; this time it was the draconid!

A loud roaring noise came from the Salamence as it quickly engaged in aerial combat, a Flamethrower blast countering the incoming Wing Attack from the second Braviary that day.

“What the—” he exclaimed before the Salamence came screaming down from up above, giving chase to the Braviary with peppered bursts of flame before speeding up and attempting to sink an electrified attack into the Braviary’s tail with a Thunder Fang.

The avian turned around mid-air, countering with an Air Slash attack; trying to drive away the larger draconid but the Electric-type attack is extremely effective, causing the avian to suddenly drop from the sky and head for a crash-landing straight towards—

“Gabe!” Alexei shouted, quickly throwing another Pokéball to halt the Braviary’s fall before it collided where they were located.

like GABRIEL BLACK? fitting, he supposes. both GABRIEL BLACK and alexei's salamence seems big, tough, and powerful. speaking of GABRIEL BLACK, the chesnaught that appears looks awfully similar to him, at least in terms of its size.

his zarude sees it as an opportunity to flex, proving its dominance as the stronger grass-type. POWER WHIP wraps around chesnaught, BINDING it in place for a pokeball to smack against it.

“Yeah, there a problem with that?”

As the Pokéball’s whisked away, a Grubbin suddenly appeared from underneath the earth—and the Bounsweet makes a racket, pointing it out.

“Look, I’ve had my Salamence for a decade now, and it was the only name he answered to,” he added with a chuckle as a new paper bag was opened—and the greedy little Grass-type immediately made a beeline for it, to which he gave a warning stare.

“Later,” he remarked as he reached into the bag and pulled out several pieces of the Pokétreats before leaning down and rolling them in the Grubbin’s direction, wondering if it would fall for the—

Hungry mandibles clicking loudly, who knew the Grubbin moved so fast it had snatched the first stray piece that fell from his hold like a—

“Holy crap,” he blinked, quickly dropping the rest of the Pokétreats and fishing out some more. Looks like they had one hungry customer to battle with, after all.

Several handfuls later, the Grubbin’s loud incessant clicking from the mandibles had ceased, and it had quieted down—to which he dropped another Pokéball atop its head.

and look! it's a gloom. the perfect addition to matias' team to bring him that much closer to finishing his johto dex.

time to battle. the gloom agrees — sending out a wave of MEGA DRAIN that slowly sucks away at zarude's life. not much is done, however, as zarude quickly closes the distance to throw its big monke HAMMER ARM, bonking the gloom right on its head.

The next thing to come across their path were two Grass-types; admittedly one of them he already had. Unfortunately, the other didn’t interest him.

Even if the Nuzleaf resembled a weird-ass looking apricorn of some sort, still, it didn’t look as weird as those strange, black-and-white Enigma Berries that looked completely out of this world.

“Where the hell did everything nice go,” he grumbled as the Nuzleaf ran on by.
