the league was beginning to slowly yet surely transition into something decidedly different. their formerly rigidly held values were beginning to warp and evolve as the war pressed onward; regulation revised and rewritten to reflect their altering stance.

'lethal force has been permitted.'

cait was perched upon the sturdy and high branch of a sycamore, a pair of high grade binoculars in hand as she peered through their polished lenses. there were rockets some distance away, the nefarious individuals loosely gathered as they prepared to launch an attack.

"i counting around a dozen targets. mostly humans. three pokemon are out at the moment. looks like one poison and two dark."

the young woman spoke into her walkie talkie, addressing her companion who was out of sight situated some distance away. they had decided on flanking the rockets, intending to launch a pincer movement when the time was right. cait's pokemon were already in place, with her decidueye and sceptile currently situated at her sides.

"i'm ready whenever you are, stormy. over."

Stormy had been lying relatively low since the Dahlia mission (details left obscure because it's not done yet), mostly due to the fact that her leg had been severely maimed during the rescue. [break][break]

In fact, she had been virtually impossible to get ahold of up until Cait had dragged her ass out of bed. She had sort of acted as the young woman's primary caretaker, constantly dressing her stitches and ensuring that it wasn't in danger of getting infected. The smile it had left behind on her calf was not a pretty sight, but fortunately, it was hidden behind a professional bandage-job and lots of padding.[break][break]

For the most part, Stormy herself wouldn't be participating in this recon mission. The League had fed them intel suggesting that Team Rocket was moving in on Oldale town, or at the very least being edgy and weird. Due to her healing injury, she had almost backed down from this request. It had been Cait to insist that she was ready, and needed to get back out there before her nerves choked off her bold spirit.[break][break]

Cait's voice came through the walkie-talkie attached to her belt. She had been leaning up against a tree, out of sight. The direction her friend was giving her was direct, her information coming through crystal clear.[break][break]

Stormy had brought along quite the hefty team of Pokemon, as one could never be too careful. For the most part, it was the same group she had taken with her to Slateport, and the same group Cait knew. They had simply grown a little.[break][break]

Chansey, now a Blissey, was settled in next to her trainer to make sure the young woman didn't overextend or injure herself. Meanwhile, taking cover behind a couple of bushes was Charmeleon and in a tree not far away from her, Skarmory. The two were poised and ready to attack should a threat arrive.[break][break]

"We are in position, ready for your orders, Cait. Over."[break][break]

She also held a couple more pokeballs containing Rapidash, Castform and Chandelure. She had come prepared.[break][break]

"we're not here to cause an absurd amount of bloodshed."

cait addressed her decidueye and sceptile directly, her tone of voice stern and leaving little room for argument as she continued.

"sceptile, you need to make sure nothing excessive happens out there."

the grass-type nodded, made to acknowledge the order before he was given leave to join his peers. decidueye remained by his mistress's side, far more effective when allowed to maintain a considerable distance from his chosen target. cait craned her neck to observe her pokemon's descent before he joined the remaining four that were loosely gathered at the base of her tree.

'we should be able to take them by surprise.'

late evening brought with it a excess of shadow that allowed for her companions to press forward without fear of being immediately sighted.

'we'll need to watch out for that dark-type. it's no mightyena, but it'll spot us before anyone else if we're not careful.'

sceptile led the charge, cait having specifically chosen him for this particular task due to his intelligence and reliability. he'd soon gather his comrades and began approaching the grouping of rockets under the cover of darkness.

"my team's going in first. as soon as they launch their attack your team is free to follow their lead. over."

cait nodded to her bird and the ghost-type notched a single arrow.

"aim for the pokemon and fire on my signal," she said. "non-extremities, preferably, but nothing that'll cause serious damage either."

Prior to their setup to engage Team Rocket with a surprise attack, Stormy had given her Pokemon explicit instruction to protect themselves no matter what. They weren't to surrender for anything, they were to do whatever it took to escape should something bad happen.[break][break]

Was she overreacting? Not even slightly. She had been through a war, and she had recently gone through a horrible, life-threatening rescue mission. She knew what Team Rocket was capable of, and she knew that they would stop at nothing to kill them, no questions asked.[break][break]

Charmeleon especially had been scared to hear this order, but she had nodded seriously and understood her orders.[break][break]

Another buzz on her belt notified Stormy that Cait had more to say. It was key, after all, to maintain communication. Especially given Stormy's current, crippled, situation. [break][break]

As soon as the line cut out and she was free to speak, she brought the walkie-talkie to her lips, eyes narrowing as she peered out into the open. By now she could see the targets Cait had mentioned, glaring them down as they crossed her field of view.[break][break]

"Copy that."[break][break]

Skarmory, the minute that Sceptile and the rest of Cait's Pokemon - if she had more - launched their assault, would attempt to make short work of the grunts, specifically. Unlike in the mission, she wouldn't use lethal force to take off their fingers, but she would whip up a whirlwind to confuse and disorient them, to hopefully disarm them and prevent them from releasing more Pokemon.[break][break]

She was a distraction so that Charmeleon could attack in tandem with Sceptile. Stormy quickly released a couple more Pokemon. Castform and Rapidash appeared by her side, and Stormy very quickly mounted the stallion. While she remained hidden behind several trees, she was now better suited to escaping, or engaging, should the need arise.[break][break]

Castform was simply there to look and act worried. Chandelure was stationed not too far from Charmeleon, waiting for her moment to strike.[break][break]

cait had selected a team that complimented stormy's adequately enough. they were pokemon that were competent enough to operate independently. their temperaments also allowed for them to work alongside one another as a group, their personalities melding well enough.

"fire, decidueye."

once she had given sceptile and his peers an ample amount of time to position themselves, cait granted her ghost-type the freedom to release his arrow. the projectile struck the mid-section of one pokemon a fraction of a second later, and cait observed as it crumpled through the lenses of her binoculars. her pokemon fell upon the enemy only moments later, the attack having signaled that it was indeed time to begin.

"flor-ges!"

grassy terrain came into effect, cait's florges setting favorable conditions for her comrades. gardevoir focused upon subduing the humans, relying upon his psychic abilities to greatly limit a multiple rocket's range of movement. yet a few pokeballs were still successfully tossed, rocket-affiliated pokemon emerging to join the fray.

Skarmory launched itself the moment Decidueye's arrow hit its target. The Pokemon in question went down without much fight, knocked out cold. The metal bird immediately went for her WHIRLWIND, locking several new Pokemon that had been released in a terror frenzy.[break][break]

Unable to escape, this allowed Charmeleon and Chandelure to take to the stage. Castform summoned a SUNNY DAY to compliment the Florges' grassy terrain. Not only were Cait's Pokemon powered up, but Stormy's were now, too.[break][break]

Chandelure made quick work of her flames, casting out several WILL-O-WISPS to scald both trainer and Pokemon alike. This immediately deterred some rockets from pursuing, Stormy could see their hind ends taking off at the first sign of danger.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Charmeleon fought valiantly with tooth and claw. Every once in a while if something got too close to her allies, she would drive them back with a fierce FLAMETHROWER. Skarmory would send out several pointed SPIKES around the area, making it difficult for enemies to traverse, and the whirlwind would often send them careening, taking out even more enemies.[break][break]

Chandelure aided Gardevoir in the prevention of rocket interaction, her PSYCHIC abilities holding several in place while the rest of her team eliminated their targets.[break][break]

the young gym leader observed silently, nervous that their plan would somehow unravel. but everything appeared to be going according to plan, her pokemon having followed her instructions on how to effectively fell humans without shedding an excess amount of blood.

"thank the gods."

cait released a noise that indicated that she was very much relieved that her plan had worked. one by one the enemy fell beneath her gaze, their limp forms crumpling onto trampled grass and cool earth as they were robbed of their consciousness. it made for a pleasant surprise that her companions worked well enough alongside stormy's, each pokemon appearing to play off of one another's abilities.

'looks like a couple of rockets escaped. that's a shame.'

while a good number of the rockets were downed where they stood, a majority of them had successfully fled into the nearby forest. cait was firm in the belief that they had scattered and would be forced to retreat once they regrouped.

'at least the operation's a success.'

"i think they're finishing up."

her sceptile had signaled in her general direction as she spoke into her walkie talkie.

"you're free to remain in position while i check everything out or join me. i doubt they'll come back anytime soon. over."

Everyone on the field was breathing heavily by the time the last rocket Pokemon fell. Most of them were in rough shape but were otherwise breathing. It appeared that in the confusion, however, a couple of grunts managed to escape. They hightailed it out of the area.[break][break]

Stormy had already begun to make her way out of the trees, she was simply waiting for Cait's direction. The woman had a better vantage point of the situation and could more accurately determine if the coast was clear.[break][break]

Skarmory had settled herself into a tree to ROOST in order to heal some of her injuries. [break][break]

Charmeleon, Chandelure and Castform all waited patiently as they looked over their opponents defeated bodies to make sure they weren't still able to fight.[break][break]

Cait's voice crackled over the walkie-talkie, and Stormy lifted it to her face, waiting for the 'over.'[break][break]

"On my way. Over."[break][break]

Rapidash promptly emerged from the trees, his flaming mane a beacon of light. Blissey also moved with them, tottering forward to oversee anyone's injuries. Her HEAL PULSE would accurately take care of whoever needed it the most.[break][break]

"I think they've gone. We just have to collect these guys, I would think. We've removed a serious threat from Oldale, and taken several of Rocket's weapons."[break][break]

Because in reality, these Pokemon were tools of war for Rocket. They deserved better.[break][break]

decidueye gently deposited his mistress, having secured her arms in his claws before transporting her to where the battle had occurred. her companions greeted her warmly, appearing immensely satisfied with their success.

"good job, everyone."

she praised them as she began to check over their defeated enemy, her fingers pressing against the necks and wrists of both pokemon and rocket alike to check for a steady pulse. thankfully, it appeared as though everyone was in a stable enough condition.

"collect the pokeballs, gardevoir," she instructed, following the ranger's advice. "and try to match the pokeball to the pokemon. we're confiscating all of them for processing."

it was very likely that the felled rocket's companions would be confiscated, rehabilitated, and eventually given to league members. a few of her very own pokemon had came into her possession this way, the creatures taken either from deceased or imprisoned rockets.

"i'll handle having everyone here arrested. it may take a while for them to reach us with a truck big enough to carry everyone here, though" she informed, addressing stormy directly. "how's that injury of yours? is it doing alright?"
