He wasn't a scientist. Not officially, not any more. So his own experiments came secondary to the work Rocket required of him. He imagines it might fail, as so many other experiments involving shadows did. But he files it away for later, nevertheless.

"Eleven, total. Twelve, if you count Lugia, but she's..."

His lip twitches, expression distant. Fond.

"A special case."

Eyes gleam from the dark of an alley, a mangy mutt crouching low over scraps pulled from a dumpster and baring yellowed teeth. Its coat is dull and matted, ribs showing at its sides. Weak. Useless to Rocket. It'll die without intervention.

Normally, Gavin wouldn't give a damn. But he thinks of his boyfriend, Tempest Quinn, and digs into his bag for a dive ball. He'd been saving it for something else, a gift, but...

"hm, that's a shame." he was certainly interested in seeing the results of that experiment. it'd make for a one-in-a-lifetime read. he had little interest in being the first to publish those results, but certainly a step-ahead of others when he published his book, would be nice.

"twelve? that is... impressive. i wouldn't expected twelve to exist, much less be in the possession of one individual." his lip twitches, regarding the fact as highly interesting. his attention shifts to a nearby battle, brows shifting up on his face at the appearance of a... walrein? was there a nearby zoo missing one of these creatures?

it was obviously not a fighter, despite the temperature dropping quickly from the SHEER COLD. before it could fall entirely, the paralytic poison in the TOXIC THREAD had it's blubberby form collapsing. in seconds, it was caught. what an odd encounter.

"All unique, as far as I know," he adds, an afterthought.

Attention is drawn to fangs in the darkness of the alley, a Mawile who'd perhaps been hoping to prey upon the weakened Mightyena Gavin had just caught.

Two clicks of his tongue, and a brilliant flood of SHADOW FIRE bathes the alley in light and heat.

As for Lugia? A slow smile curves the lips of the underboss at the thought of his patron. It crinkles around his eyes, lighting their amber depths with fire.

"So far as I'm aware, she is the only one. But Rocket were not responsible for her condition." It was a common misconception, likely due to the knowledge among recruits that they'd once been able to manufacture artificial shadows.

"I hope you're able to acquire one of your own in time. I find they're best suited to those unafraid of their... unique disposition."
