Stormy's brows come together, concern reflected in the weak tremble they display. She swallows, unsure what to make of the hollow, hopeful pit in her chest. What did he mean when he said that? It couldn't mean what she hoped it might, that she meant something to him, that he genuinely meant it when he told her to come with him.

But she has always been a fool.

"Do you mean that?"

He could lie and she'd believe him, even if deep down she didn't.

It isn't enough. It would never be enough.

His silence speaks volumes. His question opens up the flood gates, gives her a glimpse, then, at what it is she's been desperate for.

But it isn't enough.

"I don't know."

He stops looking at her and that is when she stands up. The motion is abrupt and she peels off the blanket. There is a moment of hesitation before she ultimately decides to hand it back to him.

"Thanks for dinner."

Or whatever it was this had been. The woman's expression is dark and conflicted, and she seems distracted and far away as she moves to leave.
