Jessie listened, her face betraying nothing. Not until she laughed, shrugging.

"I suppose you have a point," she said.

However, the MIME JR. broke free from the ball. It was a feisty little one, to say the least. She didn't want to fight it, but it seemed she had no choice in the matter.

Another PHANTOM FORCE was sent forward, trying to damage the baby Pokemon to a point it wouldn't resist the Poke ball this time.

Thus, after a short battle, Mars does so, his attention then turning to his surroundings once more.

The MIME JR. finally settled in the poke ball, much to her relief. Jessie knew that she was behind on their little competition, and knowing Mars, he wouldn't let her down.

Of course, he voiced it to her as well.

"It was a mishap. Perhaps you will encounter something like that as well. We aren't all perfect," she teased.

But determination took over as she spotted her next catch. A PANPOUR, bouncing to and fro in nearby. Jessie readied another ball as she commanded an attack to weaken it.

Her RAICHU was perfect for such an occasion, using a THUNDERBOLT to attack and lower it's health. With that task conquered, she threw the ball.

"How's your love life, Mars? Any potential seekers in the hand of the CEO of POG Bank?"

It’s with a chuckle that he responds to her teasing, as if he too were joking. And he is, for the most part, but as much as he may joke, Mars’ belief in his own perfection is as honest as it comes. Yes, it’s hubris. Yes, it has been his downfall more than once. Will he change his ways and become more humble? Unlikely.

After all, despite the initial shock, despite the hit his confidence took, and despite how close to death he came, in the end, the events that had taken place all too recently at Slateport Park had only strengthen his resolve – largely in part to BARNABY FINCH being there to support him when Mars needed it the most.

He knows this, so maybe he shouldn’t be as surprised as he is when Barnaby is exactly who passingly crosses his mind when hearing Jessie’s next question. The thought comes and goes, and of course, Mars doesn’t show his surprise; he simply laughs lightly before calling his Greninja back.

”My hand? Are you already planning my second wedding, Jessie?” Dodge and deflect, a strategy much different from that of the Hatterene he calls out next.

The Silent Pokémon watches her surroundings, flinging MAGIC POWDER at a Flygon the moment she senses its hostility. With the powder affecting the dragon’s typing, she strikes swiftly, DRAGON TAIL being of little effect on her and being met by a BRUTAL SWING.

"Planning? Of course not. I wouldn't rush something like that for a prestigious person. Can you imagine all the pressure that'd be put on me? No, thank you."

She waved her hand to dismiss the thought, of the potential yelling and screaming of everyone who'd demand that the CEO of POG Bank's wedding be perfect. While Jessie was sure she could make a perfect wedding, there was absolutely no rush.

Honestly, it was the gossip she was here for.

"I'm not worried about it at all. I'm just interested in it. Call it snooping, but I want all the juicy details, Mars. The men, the women, anyone in between... if there's anyone who's caught your eye and made you swoon, even though you won't admit it because you're the most stubborn man in the world?"

Okay, she was picking on him now, but Jessie felt like she was somewhat of an expert at getting under his skin. She snickered to herself as she found the KIRLIA, standing elegantly in front of her.

It began to dance, swaying around and waving its arms in the air from the happiness it felt emitting from Jessie. A sign that perhaps, there was already a connection forming between the two. She watched it for a moment with a smile, as it spun in a pirouette.

"It's important to be happy. Even if it's from romance or friendship, right?" she said, thoughts drifting for a moment to the one who made her truly happy.

When Jessie mentions pressure, Mars can’t help but laugh, because it all reminds him of how much effort he had put to make everything was perfect when getting married all those years ago. A few people had probably been incredibly stressed because of their constant demands, but of course, Mars hadn’t cared much for their feelings then and he honestly still doesn’t.

Since when can he so easily laugh about all these memories that have brought him so much pain ever since she died? At this thought, Mars suddenly becomes painfully aware of the ring that hangs as if a pendant from his neck, beneath his shirt – as if it had doubled or tripled in weight.

”I’m not stubborn.” He responds, stubbornly. Pointing towards the head of a Swampert that peeks out of the water, Mars gives his Hatterene a silent command before returning his attention to Jessica Manner. ”You, however, are incredibly nosy, Jessie.”

There’s a smirk, one that doesn’t fade away even as a SHADOW BALL causes loud splashing in the water nearby, especially as the Swampert retaliates by THROWING ROCKS. Atropos makes expert swings in response, returning the rocks to their sender.

”Should I give you a list of every person I’ve had even the slightest flirtation with over the past few months, Jessie? Would you like that?” Mars jokes, because he won’t, obviously. There’s no way he could come up with a list like that.

Jessie gave a smile, one that was full of innocence, sunshine, and rainbows. Her? Nosy?

Never.

"I have no idea what you're talking about, Martín del Mar. I'm just looking out for you, as a childhood friend," she said, rolling the ball that now contained the KIRLIA.

The SOLOSIS caught her eye, green and goo-like as it seemed to float from one place to another. She called forth her WEAVILLE, standing proudly and almost snobbishly in front of her. It used DARK PULSE, purple light pulsating out from the central point to attack to goo-ball.

Another Poke ball, thrown. A capture attempt.

"If you wanted to. I don't mind doing the research on the people myself. I'm just curious, is all."

She does so swiftly and effectively, once again using her MAGIC POWDER to leave her enemy at the mercy of her BRUTAL SWINGS.

Jessie snorted. He didn't cave, that was for sure. So much for getting the juicy details...

"Who said I was worried about you?" she said with a sweet smile.

"I know you're a big boy. You can handle yourself. I'm just here in case I need to, you know... kick some ass in between."

She spotted the DOTTLER, flashing blue from top to bottom. Jessie was almost always one for dramatics, therefore commanding Finn to use FLAMETHROWER to attack before she threw the Poke ball.

In all honesty, it makes Mars wonder why exactly it is that he doesn’t want to tell Jessie. In the past, he wouldn’t have minded talking about going on a nice date or anything of the like, but much had changed since the days when he craved romance.
