She can’t believe it. Round two of the blind dating and he shows up. She honestly can’t believe they’d find each other here like this. Toshiaki Macallan is one of Rae’s few friends in Hoenn, given how recently she moved over here and how few people she’s met in her time. She’d come here to try and find some new people to hang out with, but it seems she gets Toshi instead.[break]

Not that she’s complaining. Toshi’s fun and exciting and cute (even if she’s not supposed to think that last part). She’s more than happy to spend some time with him and she’s had a grin on her face ever since she saw they’d be together, if only for a little bit.[break]

“So,” she says, popping a candy from the table in her mouth. “How’ve you been? What have you been up to? I haven't heard from you since we visited the space center!”

For Hoenn being a region as massive as it is, the world itself sure is small! He hadn’t imagined running into Rae here of all places. Not that he’s complaining, quite the opposite in fact. He grins that winning smile of his while the Togetic by his side squeals happily at the sight of a familiar face. [break][break]
“Hey! Not much. Mostly training, been slowly tackling the league challenge here. It’s been really fun!” He also grabs some candy off of the plate. This event has made him into a sweet tooth kinda guy. “I came here cause it’s a great place to make friends and meet new people, guess you had the same idea huh?” [break][break]
He pauses briefly, thinking of a good ice breaker to ask. He decides to go simple. [break][break]
“Alright! If you could have anything in the world, what would it be?”[break][break]

Blink is happy to see Toshiaki, the Absol limping over to him on his cast before nuzzling into his leg. He’s faring well after the scare the two of them had had where he’d gotten a fracture back there. She smiles, thinking about how well he’d taken it and to return Toshi’s c~~ute~~ gesture.[break]

“Tackling the… what?” Oh Rae. Your sweet, stupid jock mind, not even picking up the Gym challenge in the month and a half you’ve been here. She leans across the table and gently grabs the front of his shirt. “Toshi. Answer me. I gotta know what challenge there is! Me and Blink and everyone else have been doing nothing but training and I’m so bored. But a challenge?”[break]

She blushes, realizing what she's done and releasing him.[break]

“Sorry... And if I could have anything in the world… Well other than something to challenge me... Oh! I want some more of that bear you sent me!”[break]

She rummages through her bag, pulling out a plastic and smacking it down on the table. The bag falls down, revealing the gigantic head of a gummy bear. There are bite marks around the neck from where she’d eaten the gift he got her. She rips one of the ears off the bear’s head and passes it over.[break]

“Here, you’ve got to try some. Toshi, this is great.”

Toshiaki’s heart aches at the sight of the cast, but is glad to know it hasn’t dampered on the Absol’s spirits one bit. He grins and lightly rubs the affectionate Pokemon’s sides, singing praises of his bravery for enduring such a hefty wound.[break][break]
Though the conversation quickly escalates, with Rae literally turning it forward, tugging him along for the ride. Sure it takes him a bit off guard, but oddly, he doesn’t seem to mind being in her hold. He’s known as an oddball for a reason. [break][break]
Once released from her grip, he laughs heartily. “You’re fine! And it’s the Hoenn Gym Challenge! You should try it sometime. It really pushes you and your Pokemon to your limit!”[break][break]
Then out of nowhere Rae pulls out the massive gummy bear he gifted her for Palentine’s day, and he grins at the sight. She keeps it with her? Talk about snacks on the go![break][break]
“Sweet! Thanks, Rae. You’re the best!” He happily accepts the candied ear, already starting to chew on it. “But yeah! There’s contests, gym challenges, you can do a lot here in this region. I really like the freedom here.”[break][break]

She can only stare blankly ahead, settling back into her seat. Just how did she miss this? A whole gym circuit, a world of possibilities for her to explore and take on. A challenge. She’s an idiot for missing all this. “Well, I guess I know what I’m looking into after all this!”[break]

And she waves off his thanks, not wanting to take it. What has she done to earn it yet. “Nah, you’re the one who got me the bear. Only fair that I give you a little piece of him! Especially because I didn’t get you anything yet. Consider this a half-present to tide you over, okay?”[break]

Wait. But if Toshi’s been taking on a Gym challenge… Well, back over the table to grab him by the shirt it is. “Toshi. Have you won a badge? Let me see your badges. We’re rivals now, you hear? I’m totally gonna win em all before you. C’mon, I’ll bet you… $100 that I’m able to get through em faster than you!”

Whether it’s unintentional or not, Rae always set a clear rhythm for him to follow in their friendship. It was nice, she’s really nice. Toshiaki appreciates her company and enjoys having her around. [break][break]
“Nah, it’s alright. You don’t need to get me anything.” He loves presents, but couldn’t think of anything off the top of his head that he really wanted or needed at the moment.[break][break]
When grabbed yet again and asked if he won a badge, Toshiaki laughs and opens the front of his jacket. The Rhythm Badge is pinned securely to it in all its shining glory! “Impressive, ain’t it? That battle was real tough, but worth it in the end! You should challenge Melody, she’s something else.”[break][break]
Hard to believe that their time together was already almost over. Still Toshiaki keeps wearing his smile, not saddened at all. “Alright, you’re on! I’ll defineitly get all the badges before you can!”[break][break]

She looks down at the badge, studying it intently. It looks so good on him (not like he needs the help to look good, some part of her brain thinks). But as nice as it looks pinned to him, she thinks it’d look even better if it was pinned on her coat.[break]

It was nice having someone who’d listen to hear, hear all the batshit things she wants to do and go along with them like Toshi does. Who else would agree to be her rival that quickly? “Alright then, you’re on! Melody, huh? Maybe I’ll pay her a visit soon…”[break]

And she plans on it. She’s fired up for maybe the first time since she’s moved to Hoenn, all thanks to Toshiaki. She beams at him, pure joy lighting up her face. “Toshi! Thank you so much! Expect my gift in the mail soon, kay? Next time we see each other, you’re gonna be amazed at how far I’ve come!”
