With the last 'date' going well, threats towards his safety included, Angelo takes his Gulpin companion to their next table in a good mood.

That's when Martín del Mar makes his grand appearance.

As it becomes apparent that the banker is set to claim the seat opposite, Angelo's expression flatlines. Like a switch had been flip, the pilot shuts down, reclining in his chair in insolent disinterest.

“Pass. Next.”

Sammy's attention, meanwhile, is a lot more invested...

For Mars, the purpose of a networking event is not to have encounters with people he already actively does business with. And yet, when he finds himself taking a seat in front of angelo vestri out of all people, the smirk that tugs at his lips is almost inevitable.

“Thanks, man. But I've got my eye on a couple of leads.”

There had been a couple of potential connections amongst them but mostly, Angelo had run into people he already knew.

Mars didn't need to know that, though.

“Means I won't be as available if I get a deal outta them, though. Try to not miss me too much.” He grins, easily leaning into their usual banter.

At Cash Money's meow, Angelo's gaze drags down to blankly look at the small cat. Meowth were not his favourite pokemon.

Still, he reaches to one of the free cookies in the middle of the table, holding it out to the waiting feline.

In the corner of his vision, a green blob shuffles closer to take a look at the new 'date' with interest.

“Oh. Right. Cash Money, this is Sammy. Sammy, Cash Money.”

Angelo gestures, providing the plush feline an introduction to his assistant. The Gulpin's little hands nervously straighten his bowtie.

“Sammy's a chef. Runs the kitchen for me back home.” Said stomach pokemon's spine(?) gets a little straighter at that.

'Chef' had an air of importance to it, especially one that 'runs' an entire kitchen.

In Angelo’s defence, out of the eight dates Mars has had so far, only one of them has been someone he wasn’t already acquainted with, but of course, there’s no need to tell the pilot that…

Overly exaggerated sarcasm drips from his every word, a grin of his own mirroring that of Angelo.

Cash Money, however, is much sweeter towards the pair, even going as far as gladly taking the cookie offered to her and nibbling on it while looking at the Gulpin being introduced to her.

A chef? Cash Money loves food!

Her ears twitch and she tilts her head, reaching over to poke the Gulpin’s bowtie. A greeting or is she just trying to play as cats often do? Who knows. There’s a soft pink ribbon neatly tied around her own neck, but she doesn’t seem to care much for that one…

”Your Gulpin cooks? That’s kind of impressive.”

Mars would think so, since he himself can barely even make cereal. No need to learn those things when you have a private chef…

Arms folded, Angelo slouches back in his chair with a proud smile. Somehow, given the recipient of the grin is Mars, it's far too sharp to be anything but smug.

“'Kind of'? Of course he's impressive, he practically lives in that kitchen.”

Practically? More like literally. His house crafted out of a kitchen cupboard by himself and Mr Dross last summer.

Meanwhile the Gulpin lets Cash Money play with his bowtie and although his green mass slackens a little, it appears to be more out of flustered shyness than the deflating dejection he'd displayed earlier.

Sammy points out the little ribbon around Cash Money's neck - they're matching!

“He can bake a better cookie than these things. Can see why they're on the house.”

Angelo's still got one stuffed in his pocket from an earlier date, mind you. Even if they were as dry as the Regirock Ruins, free shit was free shit.

“Anyway, is that why you're here, lookin' for someone to keep you company when you can't bother me?”

When Sammy points to her ribbon, Cash Money pauses and meows happily as if in agreement… Only to then start pulling on it. It takes her a moment but she manages to undo it after some fumbling, and although it may not be a little frayed thanks to her ever so sharp claws, she offers it to the Gulpin. After all, it's not like she can tie it for him.

Mars almost wants to comment on how that had been a nice ribbon she just destroyed (silk and everything!), but instead of doing so, he simply chuckles, a smirk tugging at his lips when hearing Angelo.

”Who says I don’t already have someone to keep me company?” Or more than just one, but there’s also no point in discussing that. ”But, no need to get jealous, Angelo. We both know no one can replace you.”

“Your cats don't count, Mars.” Angelo shoots back, without missing a beat. Barbed comments and sharper smiles their brand of communication.

There was no offensive to be found here, even as he wrinkles his nose in exaggerated disgust.

“Oh, thank Arceus. Now I can sleep easily at night...”

Unlike the last date, when the buzzer punctures through the echo of conversation that hums through the bustling hall, Angelo does not delay to get to his feet.

Much to the dismay of one, hopeful Gulpin.

Thankfully, Angelo was in tune with his assistant cook's mannerisms. Was a little soft around the edges for the Gulpin, too.

Better throw the little guy a life ring.

“Tell you what, next time I see you, I'll bring some of Sammy's cooking.” He's primarily talking to Cash Money, but hey, if Mars wanted to get in on it too...

“Can try for yourselves how amazing his food is.” With that, Angelo is completely certain of.

Scooping up Sammy, now sporting Cash Money's bow and she his bowtie in some garment exchange of sorts, Angelo bids Mars goodbye.

But not without a glance over his shoulder, lips curled in the manner of their usual exchange. Hinting at something devious beneath the surface.

What that may entail, remains a mystery to the uninitiated...

“You should come over and try the wife's cooking sometime, too. Don't be a stranger, Mars.”

Mars would give Angelo some witty response about how that’s not the type of cat that keeps him company, but… well, he’s not a frat boy who’s barely more than a teenager. At least not anymore. Gone are the days of making inappropriate jokes during situations that require decorum (for the most part, of course).

The bell rings, Angelo stands, and when Mars does as much, he picks up the pink-tailed Meowth that now holds Sammy’s bowtie as if it were a memento of their meeting.

Shame these encounters only last a few minutes, but there’s always next time…

”Why do you make it sound as if I should be more excited about Sammy’s cooking?” An eyebrow is raised, coming in company of a sharp grin of his own. ”You bet, though. It’s a date. Give Skyler my regards.”
