Apparently Elisabeth Fiorelli had been keeping herself busy, and the colossal maze before him stands as if proof of that. It brings Mars reminders of the hedge mazes at his family’s villa back in Sinnoh; memories of a childhood of running amongst walls of lush green while attempting to escape from strict tutors and their inevitable lessons. Later on, he had wandered through those same mazes in laughter, enjoying the giddiness brought by whatever substance he had been indulging in at the moment…

But, this isn’t one of those mazes he knows so well. Those mazes that are perhaps one of the only things he remembers fondly about the villa that had for long been as if his perfect gilded cage.

Sometimes a maze is just a maze.

This one, in particular, is one he’s supposed to beat, and Mars sure loves a challenge…

Does he love to play fair, though?

Of course not, who do you think he is? Yet, while he could so very easily call out one of his Psychic types and teleport right to the centre of the maze, he does not, and that may just be because of nostalgic this is...

THE FIRST CHECKPOINT

As the Roselia's scrutiny sits heavy upon you, a strange sense fills you that even if you had cheated here, it would have served little purpose; every branch and leaf responds to the Pokemon's unspoken word, shifting at her slightest glance.

This is not a place where cleverness can outwit Fate, for this dryadic Clotho can reweave her loom of vines as she pleases.

Regardless, the Roselia guarding this first of many choices nods at your decision, bowing as she steps aside to let you enter your chosen path. The other closes abruptly in a curtain of moss and briars at the Pokemon's behest, unable to be retread.

Your choice at the first checkpoint is decided; your path is set.

THE PATH LESS TRAVELED BY

As you advance deeper into the maze, flowers of every hue blossom and unfurl around you, as if celebrating your passage deeper into the thick foliage. Sunlight spills forth through the crevices of leaves and branches, at last revealing a Lilligant who stands before you.

She elegantly curtseys with a smile, as if she has been long awaiting your presence. In her leafy hands, she holds a boxed gift:

To no one’s surprise, Martín del Mar loves being right, even when it comes to something as simple, silly, and meaningless as finding his way through a hedge maze.

He relishes in the feeling, ever a man to treat just about everything in his life as a battle to be won and when sees Elisabeth Fiorelli’s own Lilligant holding up his prize, he even smiles at the pokémon. ”Thank you.”

So, what comes next?

There’s no point in wondering about it for too long, for no amount of analysis would be able to determine what’s the right answer for sure, and as much as Mars may love good odds, statistics, and probabilities, sometimes the thing that makes the most sense is to go with his feeling…

A gentle wind bearing dandelion spores draws you further into the maze, sticky with sweet pollen. It tickles your nose, leaving it no surprise when the bend turns to reveal a joyful Jumpluff standing before you.

She chirps with apparent delight at your arrival, hopping up and down upon a boxed gift that she urges towards you:

Chirping with delight, the Jumpluff greets him as if celebrating his arrival. The sight of the Cottonweed Pokémon bringing reminders of one all too different but of quite a similar demeanour. Admittedly, it makes Mars smile. Another checkpoint reached, then.

Mars understands statistics well enough to know how unlikely reaching the end of the maze is, but once again all thoughts of probabilities are ignored, and after taking the boxed gift with more kind words of gratitude, his choice is made by instinct alone.

The delight doesn't leave the Jumpluff as she confirms your decision with a decisive hop, skipping aside to let you enter your chosen path. The other closes abruptly in a curtain of moss and vines at the Pokemon's behest, unable to be retread.

OUT OF THE WOODS

You follow the long and winding path of the maze, eyes scanning for the next possible glimpse of the promised checkpoint ahead. The flowers, however, seem to furl up and diminish in your shadow; it occurs to you, after some time of endless wandering and meandering, that your path only goes one way.

Out.

The radiant smile of a Bellossom greets you, dancing over to you with a consolation gift in her hands. Next to her, the figure of her trainer, Elisabeth Fiorelli, gives a small, sympathetic smile. "Halfway through? Impressive. I hope you feel your efforts are suitably rewarded," she says, gesturing for you to open the proffered box.
