A maze, now THAT was something to travel for. She’d heard some nice things about this, and since the event was coming to an end soon, she had to hurry and give it a go. Maybe she could even win big time! And so she did. Traveling with all haste to Fortree city, finding the Maze after getting lost five times or so on the way. Luckily a local stranger was kind enough to help her there.

Ready and willing did she now stand before the entrance to the maze. With a gulp, and a half nervous step did she enter the leaf-covered path. She kept an eye on the walls, hoping to Arceus that they wouldn’t bend and consume her. That was a thing, right? She was almost certain of it, or maybe that part had just been a movie. Either way, onward she went.

It didn’t take long before she reached the diverging path. She tried to figure out which way to take, but like many people, before her, she found no suggestion of which path would be the right one. So, after a quick game of eeny-meeny-miny-moe, she decided to go with the right path! Hoping that it would prove to be the correct choice.

THE FIRST CHECKPOINT

Eeny-meeny-miney-mo is a tried-and-true tactic, indeed. Why not utilise it here?

The Roselia guarding this first of many choices nods, bowing as she steps aside to let you enter your chosen path. The other closes abruptly in a curtain of moss and vines at the Pokemon's behest, unable to be retread.

THE PATH LESS TRAVELED BY

As you advance deeper into the maze, flowers of every hue blossom and unfurl around you, as if celebrating your passage deeper into the leafy foliage. Sunlight spills forth through the crevices of leaves and branches, at last revealing a Lilligant who stands before you.

She elegantly curtseys with a smile, as if she has been long awaiting your presence. In her leafy hands, she holds a boxed gift:

Behind her another choice awaits you: a winding, looping path to the left, and a narrow and snaking path to the right.

It seemed she had chosen the right path. She nodded thankfully to Roselia as she moved on through the maze. It seemed to grow more flowery with each step she took until she reached a sunlight spot within the Maze where right there in front of her a Lilligant stood. It seemed to hand something to her. “Oh, for me?” Johanna took the present, a bit confused in fact, as she had thought prizes would be handed out at the end. But she wasn’t one to say no though.

“Say, you wouldn’t happen to know which turn is going to be the correct one next time, do you?” Of course, she was given no proper response. She shook her head as she spoke. “Silly question. I am sorry.” And with that, she moved on until she reached the next branching path.

“Well, it worked last time, so why not now?” She mumbled and then continued with an Eeny-meeny-miney-mo. This time hitting right again! Doubt hit her mind, but she knew there was no place for it so forcing herself through uncertain steps, she walked down the RIGHT path.

THE SECOND CHECKPOINT

The Lilligant let out a silent giggle, amused at the impertinence of your question. As if she'd ruin your fun!

Smiling, the Lilligant that guards this second checkpoint bobs her head in silent understanding, stepping aside to let you enter your chosen path. The other closes abruptly in a curtain of moss and vines at the Pokemon's behest, unable to be retread.

Your choice at the second checkpoint is decided; your path is set.

THE PATH LESS TRAVELED BY

A gentle wind bearing dandelion spores draws you further into the maze, sticky with sweet pollen. It tickles your nose, leaving it no surprise when the bend turns to reveal a joyful Jumpluff standing before you.

She chirps with apparent delight at your arrival, hopping up and down upon a boxed gift that she urges towards you:

Behind the blue Pokemon another choice awaits you: a circuitous path to the left, and a deceptively straight, arrow-like path to the right.

There was not a clue to be had from the Lilligant, and that made sense. She wouldn’t ruin the fun. So she stepped through and was abruptly caught behind a curtain of moss and vines. It was kind of scary to think about. Johanna didn’t like the thought but acknowledged that maybe she would be caught here for all eternity as a prisoner of the maze. Certainly, it wouldn’t be out of the question for mischievous grass-types to do stuff like that.

Though her attention was moved away from the Grim Darkness of what Grass-types could do, and onto the dandelion spores dancing through the gentle breeze. They drew her forward like moths to the flame. Until she, at last, came to find the Jumpluff that spread them. It offered her a gift, and she accepted gratefully, giving it a small bow in return as well as a “Thank you.”

And then another choice was presented in front of her. There was only one choice to be made. The RIGHT choice. And this could be nothing but right, there was a fifty percent chance of it, right. Anyhow, she walked down the deceptively straight path, leaving behind the Jumpluff in the process.

THE THIRD CHECKPOINT

The grim nature of the hedge maze seems entirely lost on the Jumpluff, who giddily welcomes you with bouncy enthusiasm.

The delight doesn't leave the Jumpluff as she confirms your decision with a decisive hop, skipping aside to let you enter your chosen path. The other closes abruptly in a curtain of moss and vines at the Pokemon's behest, unable to be retread.

Your choice at the third checkpoint is decided; your path is set.

OUT OF THE WOODS

You follow the long and winding path of the maze, eyes scanning for the next possible glimpse of the promised checkpoint ahead. The flowers, however, seem to furl up and diminish in your shadow; it occurs to you, after some time of endless wandering and meandering, that your path only goes one way.

Out.

The radiant smile of a Bellossom greets you, dancing over to you with a consolation gift in her hands. Next to her, the figure of her trainer, Elisabeth Fiorelli, gives a small, sympathetic smile. "Halfway through? Impressive. I hope you feel your efforts are suitably rewarded," she says, gesturing for you to open the proffered box.
