The strike to the face nearly knocked her out. She used to be able to take a punch but all the time spent in the lab recently has made her soft. When Blade returns, she’s on her hands and knees, picking herself up off the ground. He kneels beside her and takes her home.

That’s how they appear on the porch. With a gentle touch, the Gallade helps her rise to her feet as Matias rushes over. This time she doesn’t shy away from his touch, she welcomes it. Eva even steps closer, unknowingly craving his protection, “I’m fine,” she snaps quickly. The edge in her tone and creased brows speak to her anger and frustration. Really, she’s fine: Just some scrapes across her knees and elbows with the worst of it being the split across her cheek from the strike that seemed to be swelling more and darkening as they speak.

Blade hovers close by, dotting Eva with a HEAL PULSE to spare her from the stinging pain and deep ache of the swelling.

Eva finds a little comfort in Matias’s touch, resting her hand on his chest. She can feel the tension beneath her fingertips, the subtle tremble of anger brewing beneath the surface. When he pulls away, she doesn’t move, letting him tilt her head. Her gaze breaks away from his, looking at nothing in particular to the side. Perhaps she’s a bit embarrassed she even fell for such a trap.

“Matias, that’s enough,” the edge in her tone remains as eh reaches up to push his hand away before turning to move into the house, “Killing someone isn’t the answer to everything,” it would likely evolve into a similar conversation as the one they originally had when they first went after KING WAYLAND in Kanto. Of course, Eva insisted on justice, on bringing him in. Look where that got them.

The snap of his words cracks like a whip. It doesn’t dignify a verbal response, only a cold glare back behind her as the door slams shut. He knows what it means.

Her steps are quick and swiftly carry her across the living room in a beeline for the kitchen, “I don’t doubt that, Matias,” she truly didn’t. Whatever he did he thought was truly right in the moment. Of course, she doesn’t even know what that even is.

When she reaches for the freezer door she stops, a tight grip on the handle as she glances his eyes. The sharpness to her glare has faded and has been replaced by something a little worse: disappointment, “I just-“ she sighs, opening the door to rummage through the frozen vegetables, “I just wish you would talk to me,” Too many secrets lately.

Eva settles on the age-old frozen peas which she wiggles out from underneath some ice cream. She certainly wasn’t about to waste ice cream on her swelling, but she did make a mental note of the mint chocolate chip for later – she’d probably need it.

In a sudden move she turns to smack the packet of frozen peas against the counter to break it up. Blade is already waiting with a small towel. She wraps up the vegetable and presses it gently against the side of her face, flinching at the initial sting. Relief is swift as the cold washes across her cheek.

“How am I supposed to know what to ask about when I’m naïve to it?” Lost in the dark, “Did you know he was here? Are delta and Sage alright?”

To say she hasn’t thought about KING WAYLAND since that night in Kanto would be a lie. Sometimes, the desperate scream of those burning in the building still haunted her as those she couldn’t save. His corpse was amongst them, in her mind. To learn her survived is somewhat of a relief. No one deserved to die such a horrible death. But his sins drowned out her sympathy, especially now.

The sting of distrust hurt, “You should have told me,” that likely wouldn’t have changed what had happened, but she wouldn’t have been caught so off guard. Eva slides into the comfort of a stool, propping an elbow on the counter to hold the ice pack against her face.

Of course she’s going to ask. King made It impossible for her not to, “What did he mean? What happened that made the League turn against him?” What did you do?

He snaps. The sudden outburst has her wide eyed and a little stunned. She shouldn’t be surprised, she’s pushing sensitive buttons. But the tone he takes, the casual way he lumps Eris Halla in with KING WAYLAND irks her along with the assumption it’s because of them that she cares to know.
