Dorian found himself on the familiar Fiery Path for the first time in several months. After having spent all that time dealing with issues in Kanto, ending up back in the sweltering cave again felt like coming back home.

Of course, he wasn't there for pleasure. No, he was accompanying Gavin as they went to capture more Pokemon for the Rocket arsenal. The way he saw it, any sort of field work was good, especially if it was with one of the higher ups.

For now, Dorian quietly walked behind Gavin, flanked by his old Magmar, Smoochie Duckie.

Where Dorian might feel as if he's returning home, Gavin feels anything but. Hoenn's climate is stifling enough without stepping foot into the furnace that was the Fiery Path. But he would endure a great many discomforts for the glory of Team Rocket, and this was one of them. It was one of the best places in the region to find Fire and Poison-types both.

So he sets his jaw, wipes the sweat from his brow, and marches onward.

Far more eager than its master is his Shadow Dodrio, who bulks up in preparation for the fights ahead.

"Looking for anything in particular, Westcliff?"

Gavin's after all sorts, but he'd give the former Beast priority pick.

"Just for some Fire-types to add to my repertoire, sir.", he would answer Gavin.

But rather than another Fire-type, Dorian is instead confronted by a Nidorina. The light blue creature gets into a battle stance, Growling at the former Beast and his Magmar. Undeterred, Smoochie Duckie steps up to the Poison-type. The old Magmar would spray down the Nidorina with a Flamethrower. The intense flames coming from the ex-Beast's ace were more than enough to overwhelm the Nidorina, and take her out.

Normally, he'd have his Magmar finish off the unconscious Pokemon. But today, Dorian signaled for the Magmar to leave her alone. After all, senseless slaughter of wild Pokemon would no doubt draw attention, something the ex-Beast knew the Underboss did not want.

Figuring Dorian probably doesn't want a second Chandelure, Gavin fixates on a Lampent whose flames cast eerie shadows.

"Go," he says softly.

The Dodrio lunges at his target with a vicious pursuit. Flames flicker and dim, but do not go out, so Gavin readies a pokeball.

"Tell me more about Kanto," he requests, as it shakes. "What news I hear is often filtered through Walsh."

"For the most part, the people that stayed behind fear us. Most of them don't dare to resist, no matter how badly some grunts may abuse their newfound authority.", he'd start. "Though as you could surmise from my visit, there are those that would attempt to rise up and rebel. They attempt to find a way to broadcast the truth to the world. Thankfully, we have communications under lockdown, their attempts to get their message out to the world are stopped dead in their tracks.", he'd continue.

"It wasn't the first time I had to quash a rebellion. During the Slateport Siege, I was stuck dealing with one such group. Suffice to say, my disappointment was immeasurable. And suffice to say, they won't be the last group of fools to try to defy us.", he'd go on, before spotting a Cyndaquil.

Dorian would send out Spooky McGlowerson, his Chandelure, to deal with the rodent. The Cyndaquil would deploy a Smokescreen to obfuscate their vision, before curling up and attempting to Rollout into the Chandelure. But before it could connect, the Chandelure managed to float to the side, and fire a Shadow Ball towards where it was rolling to. The spectral blob of energy struck the Cyndaquil, knocking it out.

Dorian tossed a Pokeball at the fallen fire rodent, hoping the capture would go well.

This is the question he would not dare ask of one of Silas' loyal supporters. Though Gavin has made no secret of his feelings toward the former mentality of the organization, he wants no word of potential dissent filtering back to Declan Walsh. Especially not after the conversation he'd had with Lulu Flint.

Instead, he asks, "Are those grunts not kept in line by their superiors?"

Or are they allowed to run rampant without fear of repercussion?

He feels a moment of pride for how well they've reigned in Hoenn's rag-tag bunch. There were outliers in every group, of course, but the mere fact that Sootopolis' takeover had been supported by many of its citizens told Gavin that their new methodology was working.

"And to tell you the truth, they tend to cross lines that even I refuse to cross. Such as roughing up children.", he'd continue, the disgust in his voice readily apparent as the subject matter came up.

An Arbok would slither up to Dorian, attempting to sneak up on the blonde Orrean. Smoochie Duckie would take notice to this, however, and blast the serpent with a Flamethrower. The attack quickly overwhelmed the Arbok. Before she could retreat, Dorian tossed a Pokeball at the Arbok.

Dodrio grapples with an Incineroar, but Gavin pays them little mind. His full attention is on Dorian, now, and his lip curls back to mirror the disgust in the other Rocket's tone.

"The entirety of Kanto should be under Rocket's protection." Just as Sootopolis. Gavin went through great lengths to maintain order and safety within their occupied city, regardless of whether all of its occupants were sympathetic to the cause. He grimaces. "But I'm in no place to challenge Kanto's leadership."

One day, perhaps... but not now.

"It will be different here in Hoenn."

He speaks it as a vow, a solemn promise.

Dorian frowns upon hearing the man's reaction. Was this why Walsh kept him in the dark about how Kanto was ruled? But whatever Walsh's reasons were, Gavin was still his Underboss. He deserved to know the full truth. And if Walsh didn't like that, tough luck.

"I hope so.", Dorian replied to the blonde, surprisingly sincerely. "Believe it or not, I actually want there to be something for the children to look forward to."

Smog would begin to bellow into the area around them. "Masks!", Dorian called out to Gavin, before pulling up a mask that was hidden around his collar, covering his nostrils and mouth. Spooky McGlowerson would quickly find the source of the smog, a Turtonator that was blowing it from his snout.

Upon spotting the ghost, the Turtonator would attempt to tackle it, only to phase through it. As it looked around confused, the Chandelure turned around, giving the tortoise just enough time to turn to face him, before he fired a Shadow Ball at the Fire-type, sending it flyting back.

Dorian quickly tossed a Pokeball at the Turtonator, hoping for a capture.

The children. Gavin's eyes narrow. "I'd like for there to still be children to look forward to those things."

That was the problem with Kanto, above even the violence and terror: children had never been an exception. They were killed and captured and converted into unwilling soldiers all the same. It was horrific.

He thinks of Eris Halla, and swallows a lump in his throat.

He might've swallowed more than that if not for Dorian's sharp warning, giving Gavin enough time to back away from the growing cloud of smog using his own miasma to heighten his speed. He hadn't brought a gas mask with him, but lifts his shirt over his face just in case.

A Weezing is released from one of Gavin's pokeballs, and it CLEARS the SMOG with haste.

Unfortunately for an unconscious Larvesta, it wasn't quick enough. Gavin steps over its slumped form as they travel deeper into the Path.
