She doesn't normally allow herself the indulgence of laying on the beach doing nothing at all, but her work schedule this week had been chaotic, to say the least, and Nenet could practically feel the melanin draining from her skin from so much time spent indoors. Nearby, her Minior rests in the sand, its eyes closed and seemingly asleep.

Sprawled contentedly on a beach towel, she pushes herself up into a sitting position to meticulously reapply her sunscreen before flopping down onto her back. Tipping her sunglasses over her eyes, she heaves sigh as she relaxes against her bed of sand; that relaxation is interrupted entirely too soon.

A shocked "Oof!" spills from Nenet's lips as a bundle of fur suddenly flops down onto her stomach and wriggles upwards, the act none to graceful. Staring, she swiftly discovers a Lycanroc on her chest - and not just any Lycanroc.

"Luna?" She then asks in delight, her hands lifting as she laughs to bury in the wolf's thick neck ruff to scratch there. "What are you doing out here, baby," Nenet drawls indulgently as she scratches, her golden eyes soon sweeping the nearby area to search for the pokemon's trainer.

"If we can't find Zev I guess that means you're mine now," she muses aloud in a teasing voice. Herr mouth quirks into a devilish smile when her gaze alights upon the man in question.

Between the Splashfest activities and working at the bar with its boom in business, Zev sorely needed a break. Nonstop exposure to too many people drained his energy quickly. He needed to disengage from the crowds, so he used the excuse that his Lycanroc wanted to run around the beach. The more he walked away from the throngs on the boardwalk and toward the comparatively empty shoreline, the more Zev felt the pressure on his chest lighten.[break][break]

Frisbee in hand, he spent a few minutes tossing it for Luna to catch in mid-air. She hurried back to him, triumphant, tail raised, then he'd take the frisbee and toss it again. The repetitive action was almost meditative, and it brought him a measure of calm.[break][break]

But then, after giving him the frisbee again, Luna turned away abruptly, ears perked, nose sniffing.[break][break]

"What is it?" Zev asked in a brusque tone, his mask having momentarily slipped while he was alone.[break][break]

She barked with excitement, her tail wagging. And then she was off, racing across the sand.[break][break]

"Luna!" Zev called after her, alarmed by her sudden change in behavior. He chased after her, more curious than concerned. The Lycanroc jumped onto someone sunbathing on a towel and wiggled with outright joy. It was only when the person sat up did Zev realize who it was.[break][break]

Slowing down to a walk, he slipped back into his persona and laughed with amusement as he approached Nenet. "She must really like you," he said to her once he was at her side. He reached down and scratched Luna behind an ear.

With gentle moves she would only reserve for Luna, Nenet carefully pushes the Lycanroc off her torso and sits up on the towel, her nose wrinkling playfully at Zev before she asserts, "You're here." There's a feigned haughtiness to her tone, the accusation ruined by the lilt of a laugh at the end.

"I thought I'd finally gotten her for myself." Turning to Luna, her hands smooshing the wolf's cheeks together with utmost affection, she coos, "Next time, baby. We'll run away together." Nearby, Nenet's Minior blinks awake, its conscious presence slowly focusing on Zev as it takes note of the man's appearance. The Minior rises off the ground, orbiting behind Nenet's head.

"This is 1912233, or Keket. Most prefer the latter."

Her eyes sparkling with amusement, she asks Zev, "What are you doing out here?"

Zev's smile widened at Nenet's display of affection for Luna, which only reaffirmed for him how useful the Lycanroc would be if he truly wanted to keep Nenet interested in him. With how often they kept running into each other, he was starting to think it would be worthwhile. It didn't help that she was incredibly alluring — in more ways than one.[break][break]

When Nenet introduced her Minior, Zev did a double take at the name. "I'll stick with Keket," he said before addressing the Pokémon. "I believe we've met before, Keket. On Mount Pyre. Are you keeping your mistress good company?"[break][break]

Of course, Zev couldn't care less about speaking with the Minior. But he remembered Nenet's love of the Meteor Pokémon, so he strove to be as polite and kind to it as possible.[break][break]

Luna, meanwhile, rolled onto her back in the sand, all four paws in the air, as happy as a Rock-type could be. It seemed like she wanted to stay there instead of continuing to chase after a frisbee. And so Zev sat next to Nenet's beach towel, taking care not to get sand all over it.[break][break]

"Luna wanted to run around for a bit, so I thought we could play catch," he replied, waving the neon green, plastic disk to reinforce his explanation. "She was having a great time but I guess she's decided saying hello to you is better than the frisbee."

"Most do," Nenet replies, her hands briefly squishing Luna's cheeks before subtly leaning nearer Zev when he joins her on the towel. With a glance to the now-hovering Minior, her voice lowers as murmurs fondly, "Lazy thing."

The Minior in question seems to round curiously on Zev; spinning almost violently in place, the Minior's core is fleetingly visible for the first time. Its nebula-black centre spangled with motes of yellow, cerulean, and green bursting into sight, the display of colour is gone as soon as it came.

A single eyebrow arching, Nenet muses, "I think it likes you."
[break][break]
She then offers Zev a playful wink when the frisbee is displayed. "I am pretty good company," she muses, her weight shifting to rest back on her hands; tipping her head up towards the sun above, Nenet breathes in deeply of the salty air rolling off the ocean. Idly scratching at Luna's ruff around her neck, she then ducks her head to whisper conspiratorially to the wolf, "Why don't you go play with Keket for a bit while I bother Zev, hm? Maybe I wrangle you for a sleepover."

In response to the suggestion, Keket hovers lower to the ground, circling around the Lycanroc in an apparent effort to draw out the wolf to traipsing down the beach again. Her golden eyes bright with affection towards the pair, she glances askance to Zev before admitting, "I can't make Friday. We have new data coming in."

The first of many cancelled dates to come, she's sure. It was fun while it lasted at least.

At Nenet's suggestion to play, Luna rolled back onto her stomach and stood. She sniffed Keket for a moment, then bounded away toward the surf with the Meteor Pokémon in tow.[break][break]

Zev chuckled, watching them. "I'm glad they're getting along," he commented idly. Putting down the frisbee, he also leaned back on his hands and stretched his legs out in front of him. His arm closer to Nenet crossed with hers; his shoulder brushed hers as he leaned toward her in kind.[break][break]

"No problem," he said with complete nonchalance when she confessed the change of plans. Freeing up his Friday meant he had more time to prepare for the assassination he intended to complete that weekend. And besides, there was always work to do at the bar. "We can go another time. Just text me when, and I'll let you know if I can go or not."[break][break]

It wasn't like they were dating. Dinner once in a while was nice, but not a high priority.[break][break]

Then again, Zev had never made it a high priority, even when he was dating someone.

There's subtle relief and surprise evident in Nenet's features at Zev casually accepts her cancellation. "Alright," she muses, her gaze then casting askance to ensure her Minior is behaving - nearby the meteoriod pokemon drifts lazily over Luna, just out of reach of the wolf's playfully snapping jaws.

Her lips pursing, Nenet offers after a moment's thought. "Are you free now? We could take Luna for a walk up the beach, or give her a run with that frisbee of yours." She doesn't have much that would be of trouble to carry with her for an impromptu walk, only her towel, the sunglasses still pushed up atop her head, and a small clutch.

Teasingly, she adds by way of explanation, "I have to make sure you're giving my favourite girl enough exercise when I'm gone." Then, louder to the wolf in question, "Don't I baby?"

Luna barked happily at the sound of Nenet's voice before distracting herself again with the Minior hovering just out of reach.[break][break]

Zev, meanwhile, smiled at the idea. "Why not both? Luna can run around with Keket after the frisbee, while we can take our time strolling."[break][break]

He stood with the frisbee in one hand, then held out his other one toward Nenet to help her rise.[break][break]

"We could get some drinks along the way. Something refreshing like a lemonade?" he suggested once she'd gathered up her things. Plenty of food and drink stalls were set up along both sides of the boardwalk for Splashfest.

Nenet smiles, warm and fond, as she reaches out to take Zev's hand to haul herself up. She drapes her towel over her shoulder and pushes her reflective sunglasses back over her eyes.

"Lemonade sounds wonderful," she replies.

Above, the sun shines brightly, reflecting off the water in a stunning display of sun glow. Nenet breaths in a deep lungful of air, relishing the warmth of the day. She would have to try surfing again sometime soon - she was hardly good at it, but the novelty of the activity had yet to wear off.

Whistling softly to her Minior, the little meteoroid spins in place; its shell cracks open to reveal a scintillating core of black flecked with myriad colours before closing once more. With that, Keket drifts lazily down the shoreline just a few feet ahead.

Nenet's hand was warm and confident in Zev's. He gave it a fond squeeze before letting go.[break][break]

Luna heard the high whistle, too, and ran toward the pair of humans. Zev brandished the frisbee at her to get her attention, then tossed it into the air ahead of them. She dashed off after it while he, Nenet, and her Minior followed at a more leisurely pace.[break][break]

In the distance, the Lycanroc leaped, caught the frisbee, and returned with it between her jaws. Her tail wagged furiously.[break][break]

"Geez, you're having a great time, aren't you?" Zev said to her, laughing, as he ruffled the thick fur of her neck with his hands. Taking the frisbee from her, he threw it forward once more.[break][break]

And so they passed that beautiful summer afternoon in this way, with the sun blazing down on them and the cool waters of the surf rushing over their feet.
