As the white flag dropped, the Director had a commanding lead, and Josh could start to feel his mount's heart pumping. Nothing unusual for the final moments of a race; Pokémon trained for it were used to being pushed to their limits in the final moments. As the three curves came up at high speed, the Leader pulled on Saber's right-side reins with almost all of his strength, though it was not a yanking motion; simply a full-strength input. "MAGNET RISE," Josh commanded, having seen Kyle's Pokémon use it before.
Hovering inches off the ground, much like a futuristic vehicle, the Manectric leaned so sharply to his right that his rider's right knee would have been in danger of scraping the track if it weren't for the electromagnetic levitation. "Not yet..." he requested of his Manectric. The jump would have been a very good place to fire off a Quick Attack, but he had a more daring plan. Instead, he flicked the reins hard just before reaching the upper edge of the course, signaling for a graceful leap from his Manectric.
His plan was to time a Quick Attack's momentum to reach the very top of the half-pipe at the trough of the hairpin turn at the end of the course. In a race with multiple competitors, that would be a metaphorical death sentence. But if it worked, he could chain Quick Attacks, one into another. Just as one ran out, he would have Saber start another one, propelling them at speeds much higher than if he ordered them to be used separately. If this didn't work, he would risk a crash-out. If it did, though, it would win him the race. And he was playing this to win. Josh's Boltund was an entire leap behind and then some.
8cMNtG2P{WC: 301} {PC: 9} Kyle's and Tara's muscle memory had paid off, the perfectly timed MAGNET RISEs letting both pairs of Manectric and racer slide around the right-angle curves and clear the gap with little trouble. Sparks flew violently from the paws of both Manectric both upon leaping and upon a bit of a rough landing. By the time Josh's Boltund even got to the big jump, the Manectric were already well clear of it, speeding toward the upcoming narrow section of the track. Josh had navigated the curves just a little faster than Kyle did, though the challenger still maintained a second-and-a-half lead with real estate starting to run out. FINAL LAP | OBSTACLE 2By now, the racers were probably used to the course getting narrow on the backstretch. What they weren't used to, though, was handling the half-pipe-like mound on the outside of the hairpin curve leading to the home stretch while at the heightened speeds of boost laps. Their experience would give them a good idea of how to handle the Obstacle: play it safe and brake around the turn, or take a risk and try to use the dirt mound to their advantage in navigating the 180 without losing momentum? This would be the last real opportunity for a major position shift to occur. Better make it count! kyle lopez Boost Uses Remaining: Josh Devlin 2 | kyle lopez 1
