The open skies belonged to no one, save for the creatures that claimed dominion there, and the people of Foretree showed their adoration by dedicating themselves to the conservation of their habitats and tending to their sick and wounded as needed.[break][break]

When inside, after checking in with a clerk, Adrian would find that their arena remains open to the sky above. He would have expected no less, and yet it still troubles him, as he does not wish to vy for aerial supremacy.[break][break]

He would prefer to keep his feet on the ground.[break][break]

Claire was the one who met Adrian at the receptionist’s area—only blinking twice before realizing that they may run into a problem. A potential problem, but then again the other didn’t look like he was being followed by a veritable mob of fans who wanted to get their paws on him.

“He’ll be here shortly,” was all she would say as she summoned the ‘man of the hour’ himself, who was out back feeding the massive number of Pikipek that he had in one of the aviaries.

“Already?”

“Yeah, better hurry, I hope the screaming fangirls aren’t outside the gym waiting once this challenge is done,” was all she said—and there they were, already outside waiting for him as he came from one of the aviaries on the far side of the Sanctuary.

“Gah, sorry—was feeding the birds,” he apologized before…

“You… you weren’t followed by a bunch of fans here, were you?” he added a few moments later.

Adrian is a little caught off guard by the next question. Is it something for either of them to worry about...? Adrian's not sure that anyone would've followed him here, or what they'd be hounding after the Gym Leader for otherwise, but they seem put off by the notion.[break][break]

"Not that I noticed...? Do you not like crowds?"[break][break]

It's not something Adrian is opposed to, though he isn't exactly thrilled by it either. But it's interesting to see the Gym Leader responding, what seems to him as unfavorably, to the idea of large gatherings of people just outside.[break][break]

“No, it’s not that,” he reassured the other.

Oh, maybe it was a good thing that Callan Young came by to challenge the gym before he was literally catapulted to the top of the world (and now had a gym of his own in Lilycove).

“I just wanted to make sure you’d be alright out here. You know how overzealous fans can get.”

Once they were outside, it was straight to the arena proper.

“You wanted doubles, right? Let’s see what you got.”

Multiple shadows streaked by above them—a myriad assortment of Flying, and not-so-Flying types made their way through the airspace before circling down for a landing.

He could only guess what the other had brought packing with him… this would be a good one.

It wasn't something he dealt with overly outside of scheduled events; his day-to-day dealings were kept relatively private, so long as he kept to the wild areas around Hoenn's cities. Fortree hardly counted, at least to him. Some of them still lived in trees.[break][break]

They were well off the grid, so far as he was concerned.[break][break]

Adrian follows them away, to a place where League regulation arena lines are chalked along the floor; it wasn't often he fought within such boundaries, though the prospect always excited him.[break][break]

"Alright then," he manages to respond while taking several paces towards what would've been his end of the arena, clutching a pokeball in either hand before releasing—[break][break]

"Howitzer, Coalossal, let's go."[break][break]

His pokemon take to the field with muted response, delicately trudging ahead of Adrian to find their footing.[break][break]

scorpio / male / sand veil / screech, x-scissor, acrobatics, swords dance, poison jab, night slash

The moment the other had taken up his position on the other side of the field, a flock of avianid and non-avianid Pokémon circled around the open-air arena, before two of them broke off from the armada that had come down to watch—while not a human crowd, any time that Alexei here had a gym battle a lot of his own Pokémon would come and watch the ~~insanity~~ proceedings.

Taking note of the Arcanine and the… the other one he couldn’t put quite a finger on yet, but certainly looked familiar he looked over to his side of the field and saw a new pair flying down—well, he knew they were capable individually but together?

This was going to be interesting.

A Flygon and a Gliscor (not the shiny one, but his usual one) were hovering on his side of the field.

“You get first moves, let’s go!”

Flygon and Gliscor are out on the field!
