Thankfully, between he and Martín del Mar, they'd managed to haul in his Sharpedo without damaging the vessel. Mars seems to have fished up one of its more reasonably sized kin, though it's sharp teeth look no less threatening.

Gavin unhooks a large Basculin from his line and watches it wriggle back into the sea before he casts again.

"I hear Captain Dross has a whole armada."

Not of ships; of Wailord. skyler dross was really something.

It would seem as if these are Sharpedo-infested waters, although thankfully the one he reels in is of a much more acceptable size. There's no need to ask for help with this one, even if it wont stop trying to bite.

That he and skyler dross were acquainted was rather secretive, but Martín del Mar has seen them interact and as underboss has access to what little intelligence Rocket has on the captain, including her truce with the organization. Little does he know that certain agents harassing the likes of angelo vestri and Locke Jamison, without his knowledge, might serve to jeopardize what shaky faith they've built.

Mars pulls up another large fish, and Gavin steps aside to give him room.

"At least it's not another Magikarp," he offers, chuckling, before casting his own line back out.

The Milotic that Gavin hauls out of the water next is large and beautiful, its serpentine form thrashing in frustration.

"Hey, hey, chill out, I'll unhook you."

It takes a deal of effort to get the rainbow-scaled Pokémon to relax, but he keeps his word when it finally does and unhooks it to be released back into it sea. It slaps the water with its tail, sending up a spray of water to soak those who'd disturbed it.

"It's a shame the rangers are keeping such a close eye on things. All this fishing would be great for our supply."

But they're in Slateport waters, not Sootopolis, so they can't simply do as they please.

As if to go with the Milotic Cillian Quinn reels in, Mars' next catch is a large Gyarados, and getting it free from the hook sure is a struggle. The pokémon looks like its about to Hyper Beam the boat there for a second or two, but eventually, once free, it just turns around and goes back into the water, as if desperate to be left alone.

His line tugs in the water, but after a moment whatever had come to investigate loses interest and Gavin turns his attention back to his companions (Martín del Mar, BARNABY FINCH, Tempest Quinn).

"Have any of you found crowns diving yet? I haven't got a single one. Starting to think it's some ploy by the Rangers so we'll clean up their ocean for them." He smirks, clearly jesting. "Had more luck surfing, and I hate that."

His line tugs again, and this time it's a bite.

"If that's their plan, it's a good one," Gavin laughs, jerking back to avoid getting smacked by a Huntail's sharp tailfin as it writhes around on the hook. Thankfully it's smaller than the Milotic, so he's able to regain enough control to unhook his catch and send it splashing back into the sea. "I found a pokeball that looks like it'd been down there for years. Might just keep it as a souvenir. I don't even know if it still works."

His fishing line had gotten a little tangled with the Huntail's struggles, so he takes a few minutes to fix things up before casting back out.

"Hey, there's one upside: no bodies on this boat. I hope."

Honestly, pokéball technology is as amazing and intriguing as it is confusing, and as much as Mars is fond of science, most of the time he can barely even explain what goes on with those. That's the conclusion he comes to while reeling in another Sharpedo, and its at this point that he wonders if there's a shiver of them swimming nearby. Maybe they had been led by the one Cillian Quinn caught and are now upset at the loss. Maybe they just want the quick meal that is every helpless fish they release.

"Shit, man, I'm sorry about the League planning to blow up your house."

Honestly, contacting the Sea People to warn them of the League's foolish plan might've been a good idea for Rocket if not for the fact that their own plan to deal with the meteor seemed to align with the League's own. Hopefully the plan didn't backfire and wind up with another interdimensional war. One was enough for a lifetime.

"Mm, I'll think about it."
