[attr=class, elisafont] [googlefont=Meddon] À votre santé [break][break] [break] She'd told Cillian Quinn once that she felt at home among wolves. If you knew you walked among monsters, you understood the danger that lingered in your shadows. Counting yourself as one among their number protected you from their advance. Donning a wolfish pelt hid the lamb's fleece from view, shrouding what vulnerabilities you held behind a vicious wall of claws and teeth. He was right, though. Masks slipped. The convulsions that shuddered through her body eventually slowed and stilled, until she went slack with relief. Her hand did not release his, despite the quiet reminder that she could, if she wished, provided by the loose hold he offered her. Tears dampened the fabric of her clothes, sliding between fingers that fruitlessly sought to deny their advance. "Thank you," Elisabeth managed at last, wiping away the lingering mist in her eyes. Her voice came out hoarse, raspy with an undercurrent of raw emotion. "I..."Instead of finishing the thought, she hung her head over the counter, her eyes focusing on anything but the man beside her. Elisabeth hadn't expected this, in joining the Rocket organisation: to trust anyone again. Part of her decision had been, in some ways, born out of a disregard for the sanctity of her own life. Her solitary nature had made her perfect for becoming nothing but an instrument of violence and torment, molded and reshaped by Rocket's designs as needed. She'd held no connections to anyone upon her arrival, nor had she expected to form any. Living a life of deceit by its very nature kept other, kinder people, at bay. She hadn't dared to think she could find kinship among fellow monsters. Nothing in her had ever imagined she'd find such unconditional understanding.
