THE SPEAKER OF THE DEAD FEARS LITTLE. for how can he be afraid of the very spirits he once coiled around his thumb? these hollowed grounds prove quiet now. deafeningly so, now that he’s made peace with normalcy. this portion of his powers are well kept, neatly buried in the symbolic burial that resides behind his headband.

the occasional spittle of his ROTOM’s discharge provides ample white noise for his reading. he glosses over polished marble and cheap granite. among these COUNTLESS HEADSTONES, not all are equal.

he's not sure if he wants to reveal to matias that he only got invited because they needed one more person or not. he might cry if he did, after all.

"you can only blame yourself if you die then," he tells matias as he takes a different route than the rest.

kyle remains in the antechamber while everyone else splits up. his manectric stands around, waiting for its static to flare up if it comes into contact with something else.

walking around, kyle attempts to look for clues. it's kind of childish, but kind of exciting as well. he hasn't done this ghost hunting thing since high school.

UPON CLOSER INSPECTION, your team realizes someone has come through here before. There are tributes still sitting before certain marked graves, and the telltale cleansing tags of the Channelers are posted around the room to ward evil. You're not sure whether it's all just superstitious nonsense anymore...[break][break]

Promptly getting down to business, begins examining the bulk of the mausoleum at large, targeting the scores and scores of tombstones lining the halls. His Rotom voicebox comes to life at the whim of his companion, but it betrays no sign of any activity it might have picked up on. But before Fernando can completely abandon this tool, white noise begins to bleed through, giving him reason to double check...[break][break]

While examines the strange tiles that seem to have been displaced, seems drawn to the walls of the antechamber and their markings. While Noah feels like he's on the precipice of realizing something, Lycanroc cannot seem to find any fingerprints. But they are both of them alarmed when suddenly, an intricate rune pattern forms just beneath where Noah stands...[break][break]

In tandem Kyle witnesses a BROKEN SPELL TAG that crumbles away before his own two eyes. The flood of blue light that filled the room with a gentle luminosity is swiftly corrupted into a crimson aura that feels less welcoming...[break][break]

On the floor above them, examines a burial sight of some import, if the scale of its burial is evidence enough. And although that's the only reason he has for snooping about this strange chamber, it's enough for him to go off of for now... Besides, he can swear the statues are practically staring through his soul...[break][break]

noah croaks. he holds his arms out in surprise or for flight, the runic carving like cracks on a glass paneled bridge.[break][break]

"got some weird like, runes, or something here." he offers a small smile to anyone near. "anyone know how to read this?"[break][break]

his lycanroc barks, shaking its muzzle back and forth in the cold air. no fingerprints. no particular scent apart from the usual musk of stale time and death. noah is quick to return the canine back to its ball, and in exchange, is riolu is summoned.[break][break]

kyle switches his pokemon around when his manectric doesn't pick up on anything. his lucario comes out as he takes out his phone. he calls just to get his attention, knowing that the elite four wasn't the most attentive.

no emf interference means he can use it, right?

"go check out what noah found, matias!" he yells across the halls despite calling his phone already. "you got the stuff, right?"

they need someone with eerie spell or light of ruin for a rune circle, according to the exorcist, though if that wasn't the case, matias should still be able to read weird runes if they're similar to unown, given that he has the unown report with him.

in the mean time, kyle sits in the mist with his lucario. blue into red is ominous enough, but his lucario with it's aura powers should be able to figure out if anything was wrong.

in the mean time...

"detect." he tells his pokemon. "check to see if anything unusual is around." maybe a presence of an actual ghost. any clues such as fingerprints, would be helpful too.

AS THEY DELVE DEEPER STILL, your team begins looking into the minute details, tunneling their focus on the intricate engravings and ornamentations of the antiquated halls. You wouldn't notice the subtle shifting of shadows surrounding you as you worked...[break][break]

is nothing if not thorough, and his efforts yield immediate results. White noise bleeds out before subtle syllables can be heard, like the dying croak of some creature... It is followed by a low growl, and mayhaps a hiss, and then it is followed only by eerie silence...[break][break]

Fernando would have to paint the picture himself to know what such an unfathomable situation might bring about such context, but as he's read before, last words are rarely anymore significant than one's first. and 's calls come a little too late (not really, matias just chose to ignore them at the time). darkness quickly surrounds him, looking to trap and likely kill but he is quick to react.[break][break]

he barely hears a response from . kyle figures he's been distracted by something and grumbles at the conclusion he formed in his head.

he recalls the lucario back to its ball and proceeds to come to 's aid.

a manectric accompanies the champion by the time they reach the gym leader. it attempts to pick up on any signs of electromagnetic interference in the room, all while kyle goes to see what noah discovered.

"hi, hi," he greets nonchalantly before moving forward to wrap his arm around noah's head and plant a kiss on his cheek. it wasn't embarrassing because they're alone in the room and ghosts aren't supposed to be real. "let's see what we got."

he's not too keen on the unown thing, but they were popular for a good while before. he's known how to read it without using a cheat sheet so it doesn't come to a surprise he can relay the words to noah verbally. messages in unown letters deceive, but most of the time, they just don't make sense.

THE ROTOM BOX IS PICKING SOMETHING UP, fernando texts to their impromptu group chat. for a moment, he considers yelling it out but should the spirit prove as hostile as the channelers have described, better to let or incur their wrath than he himself. after all, surely these prime and proper avatars could handle a mere ghost.

speaking of which, fernando jots down his notes in his pokedex, cross referencing the guide book the channeler’s had bestowed them. in the process of elimination, he returns his ROTOM for SPIRITOMB. the ODD KEYSTONE should bind the spirit should it reside among these COUNTLESS HEADSTONES.

warmth blossoms on his cheek like a sympathy flower when kissed. it provides a moment's comfort before growing icy with cold tomb air. the feeling is paralleled by the ignition of literacy and of eerie understanding, for the unown writing is perplexing if not entirely unnerving.[break][break]

"ancient curse woven into body," noah repeats. "hey guys, we got unown writing here!" he grabs kyle's hand and pulses it with a squeeze. "thanks."[break][break]
