What is it about Meteor Falls that always seems to draw people back into the depths of its cavern? Is it the hope of finding one of the meteors that are its namesake, scattered amongst rock even after all these centuries? Is it the falls themselves, those powerful rapids of a flow that echoes endlessly beneath the earth? Or, is it perhaps something else?

Mars knows his own answer to that question. Meteor Falls had first appeared in the Unown Report months ago. He had visited the falls then and summoned fifty Unown to ask about their importance, and instead of being given a direct answer, he was given its name again… along with those of ten other places.

He has visited the falls frequently ever since then.
[break][break]
Today, he does so by the side of the Unown-! he first brought here with him all those months ago, the same Unown-! he met in a different dimension. It hovers by his side; staying close while Mars crosses one of the bridges that rise over the rapids.

He avoids the more touristic sections of the falls, and he certainly doesn’t expect to run into anyone…

her boots crunched over a rocky path, parallel to the water which ran through the cave system. as she walked, a lunatone hovered over shoulder—one which had scarcely seen the light of day since its purpose had been robbed by tapu fini. [break][break]

the mural, which had become a great interest in both the scientific and historical communities, was located just ahead. despite its connection and having been deciphered by FERNANDO SILPH , curiosity pulled her towards it. [break][break]

short of reaching the mysterious artwork, however, her eyes glimpsed a familiar face. [break][break]

Alas, expecting the unexpected should be one’s state of mind in a place like Hoenn, and this is what Mars is reminded of when Lulu Flint calls his name. He doesn’t look particularly surprised when he turns to look at her, even if she had indeed surprised him. He’s as composed as he usually is, smiling faintly.

”Flint. Fancy running into you here.” The Unown looks at her as well, recognizing her from the recent meeting in Sootopolis. ”I take you’re not here for tourism purposes either, hm?”

He knows her well enough to suspect that her presence here must be due to a specific goal, same as his. Likely not the same, although perhaps the interests might once again align in some way.

He has heard of it, of course, but his visits to Meteor Falls hadn’t had much to do with the meteorite headed their way… or at least Mars had never made the connection. Does the mural have to do with why the Unown Report had marked this place as so terribly important?

”I stop by from time to time.” He admits just as a Goodra comes into view. It roars, causing the scent of its DRAGON BREATH to linger in the air. The Unown chirps, but instead of commanding it to attack, Mars releases his glowing Illumina Dragapult. One click of his tongue and DRAGON DARTS swiftly deal with the wild pokémon.

”your unown like riddles, don’t they?” amber eyes passed over to him. ”maybe there are other important puzzles here, yet to be uncovered. the answers to our future could lie somewhere in this cave—but of course, i’m no archaeologist.”

If that’s the case, then won’t they just be passing on the burden when Meteno is sent to Sea Hoenn? ”I figured the Dark Triad sent it, but maybe they just accelerated its approach and its origin is different. Would be nice if the mural told us how to deal with the problem, right?”

There’s a smirk that doesn’t reach his eyes, not even when a curious Lotad comes out from behind a rock, approaching cautiously. This time, when the Dreepy charge out of the Dragapult’s horns, they don’t do so to attack; instead they sit atop of the Lotad’s head. The wild pokémon doesn’t seem to mind it too much, nor the way the Unown-! looks at it.

”Puzzles, hm?” Could there really be more murals? More potential discoveries? Information they’ve yet to uncover? There’s few things Mars is more drawn towards than new knowledge. ”You might be onto something. They did give me a cryptic answer when I asked them why this place is important.”

Far from it, in fact, but then again, Mars is sure that someone like Lulu Flint probably won’t believe anything unless she can confirm it herself. It’s how he himself is, at least. Everyone has their own opinion on things, but ultimately, it should all be taken with a grain of salt until there’s substantial proof to back up this or that claim.
