Killian sat on edge of Starlight's marble fountain, a cigarette hanging loosely between his lips. With Hoenn's end drawing near, he figured one last smoke was the least he could ask for, Deoxys be damned. The alien groaned at the smoke filling Killian's lung. [break][break]

He blew the smoke out through his nose, two streams of white, before Deoxys got too upset.[break][break]

"Arceus, this is all going to go to shit." mine the meteor, invade Littleroot, disrupt the League on Mt.Pyre - which one would lick the envelope sealing their doom? [break][break]

Killian tilted his chin up to the cloudy sky. "Do you think you could absorb it?" a stupid question that Deoxys didn't bother to answer. "Yea, I figured." he sighed and glanced to his watch.[break][break]

Just enough time to finish his cigarette before Lulu Flint arrived.

smoke drifted up past her head, the glow of a cigarette lighting her less-than-pleasant face. despite her excitement for the mission ahead of them, lulu was hardly thrilled at the idea of sharing the helm with underboss decker. differences and violent confrontations aside, however, they had a very important job to do.

with nerves steeled and loathing tempered, she approached, flanked by two of the dogs that typically guarded her office on the submarine. four red eyes settled on killian as they approached. the youngest of the scientist’s houndoom—a lesser shadow from the hatchery—was finally full grown.

”decker.”

lulu’s tone was cold and sharp, and she stopped a less-than-friendly distance away. far out of reach, at least presumably.

The underboss stood, hands slipping into the pockets of his leather jacket. He did his best to ignore Deoxys. The alien's disdain for the woman rivaled Killian's own.[break][break]

"Are your dogs house broken? I don't need em attacking the casino's Gothitelle." or staining the carpets.

for a moment, she was quiet again, letting the autumn air blow between them. meanwhile, she simmered, before her words were laid down deliberately like stacked stones.

”my dogs are fine.”

better behaved than most of the organization, she’d say—including him.

”you know, perhaps it was silly of me to think that you taking this job meant you’d actually offer me some respect, for once. how nice of you to volunteer, by the way.”

"I respect you." Killian said, waving for her to follow as he made his way inside the casino. "Your intelligence anyway." but emotion frequently got in the way of respect. His hate refusing to be obscured by fake smiles and pleasantries.[break][break]

Starlight had no gamblers today; the only occupants were the staff and Pokemon hired to keep her clean and secure. The Indeedee working the front counter nodded at the pair as they stepped inside.[break][break]

"I didn't volunteer to fuck with you. My friend demanded I go." He stopped at an elevator near the entrance. Usually, this led only to Starlight's hotel rooms on the upper floors. That changed when Killian pressed his thumb against the call button. [break][break]

The elevator buzzed, flashing red before the doors slid open. No better place to hide the passage to secret floors than in plain sight.[break][break]

"After you."

she and her dogs followed the underboss inside the casino. even the grand atmosphere of such a place couldn’t drag her attention away from the back of his head. she wondered if deoxys would be the undoing of their mission. if it wouldn’t simply rip apart their vessel in a frenzy if one little thing set it off.

it seemed like a bit of an oversight, really, but who was she to go against the boss? a dead woman, either way, maybe.

”your friend,” she echoed. there was plenty to say about it, but even she acknowledged the gravity of the situation. in order to complete their mission, it was necessary to practice diplomacy with this unreasonably hostile force that controlled the underboss—supposedly.

”am i speaking to both of you now?”

she and her houndoom boarded the elevator with them. suddenly, she felt claustrophobic in a way she normally didn’t. there was no trust that killian’s symbiotic monster.

”no, actually. if it was the one that volunteered to lead this mission, then i would actually prefer to address it.”

however, that would be done from a distance greater than arm’s length, off the elevator.
