Of all the people to stumble upon.

Perhaps she was just shit out of luck?

Perhaps the Gods of misfortune truly did smile upon her?

“I…I..I don’t want to hurt you.” Johanna spoke, her voice trembling behind the mask. Though had her voice not betrayed her, then her shaking hands would as she held up the Pokéball.

“I don’t suppose you’d be willing to just let me go, right?” Johanna knew the question was dumb. If the League knew they were coming, well then they would surely be prepared to do them harm.

And as she stood there clad in brandless black clothes with gloves, a simple white smiley-face mask adorned her face. The only thing that might reveal her would be the long blue hair, which she had done her best to tuck into her clothes though strands of blue might still be visible. She could think of only one saving grace. At least my identity is still hidden

The incoming sound of the league's newest Elite Four member, Callan Young, crackled through the radio waves. Immediately, Penelope reached for her mic in response, but when she spoke back out into the abyss, her voice was only met by more static.

"Fuck it. I'm going down to check it out," She informed Melody Miro and illeana reyes before rushing down the Mountain, tugging along her Mr Rime close behind. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to rush down toward the hands of the enemy, but it wasn't like she'd be able to do much should the primal point be directly attacked. And just standing there was driving her heart crazy.

Her voice echoed out into the expanding mist, calling and calling, desperate for a sign of life beyond its grayish walls. It was then a dark figure that emerged, clad in clothes void of any color, and masked behind a plate of pure white.

"Stand down and keep your hands up where I can see them!"

Despite the tightness of her voice, the councilwoman could feel a sense of dread wash over her, weighing down her stomach til it sat at the edge of her stomach. A chill ran down her spine as she took a cautious step forward. Mr Rime lifted his icicle cane, waving it til pink PSYCHIC energy attempted to force the woman's hands down, hoping to prevent them from clicking her pokeballs to life. A little trick a nameless league ranger had taught her.

With her spare hand, Penelope pulled out another ball and sent out her Metagross.

Hands flew into the air as Penelope commanded Johanna to stand down. For a moment she considered it, for a moment perhaps just giving up right here would be the smartest thing to do. Surely it would give her a way out of Team Rocket.

But then she felt the psychic force being exerted on her hands and reflexively she tried to let go, while she didn’t manage to do it fully, it was just enough for the Pokéball to wiggle its way out of her grip, falling to the ground and popping open.

Without command, the Drapion burst forth from the sphere and aggressively charged toward Penelope with the intention of doing harm. Perhaps hoping to catch the attention of both the Metagross and disturbing the focus of Mr. Rime.

The incoming Drapion is met with swift reactions among the party. Well, everyone other than Penelope. Hunching forward, councilwoman shriveled at the sight of such a brazen push forward, still unused to the sheer intensity of battle between factions. Her Mr Rime, while not as shaken by the sight, was still caught off guard, leaving his PSYCHIC concentration to lose power.

The only one who maintained their stance was the Metagross, who welcomed the incoming Pokémon with a move of his own. Arm of steel coated in molten metal, the Pokémon let out a roar as it sent its fist forward, using METEOR MASH to meet Drapion's charge.

After a second of recollection, the Mr Rime wiggled his cane again, sending forth PSYCHIC TERRAIN to plague the field.

Drapion succeeded. Johanna was freed. She reflexively took a moment to stretch her fingers confirming their freedom.

Drapion being prepared for a counterattack quickly reacted to the oncoming Meteor Mash. He felt the metallic arm grace his shoulder as he changed direction not only to dodge but to attack the face of Metagross. FIRE FANG covered both pincer hands and its mouth as it counter-charged.

Though she didn’t want to, she knew Drapion would not simply give up the fight without a proper try. And she certainly couldn’t let it fight on its own. And so she retrieved another Pokéball, summing forth a female Meowstic.

Its haughty gaze quickly analyzed the situation and realized that Metagross and Mr. Rime were enemies. A light blue shine covered its body for a moment as it sent a wave of powerful PSYCHIC energy toward the Mr. Rime.

Meanwhile, Johanna was trying to look around seeing looking for a moment to run away or call for help. Surely there'd be other Rockets there, right?

"You don't have to do this," strong, yet fragile, the voice barely speaks over the clashing battle of tooth and nail between them.

Metagross let our a cry as Drapion's fangs clipped around it's arm. But, this cry of defeat only lasted a mere second before he'd use it as an opportunity to retailiate. Empowered by the psychic terrain, the Metagross whipped around it's arms and used EXPANDING FORCE to send a flurry of psychic punches at both Drapion and Meowistic.

Mr Rime, from the sidelines, also used the psychic terrain to his advantage, meeting the Meowistic Psychic with a blast of his own, evening out their side of the field. Hopefully, with Expanding force aimed to interrupt the kitten's concentration, Mr Rime's arc of pink would find a mark on the psychic cat's face. At least, that was the plan.

Were it not for her mask, then Penelope would know that Johanna felt no joy in doing this. In fact, doubt smeared upon her face. But she couldn’t stop, not now. She had come here as a member of Team Rocket, that in itself was a crime. She had attacked a Council member, that was another. No, her only hope was escaping, and perhaps, if luck was on her side then meeting up with Isaac Merlo, he would surely be handling this better than her.

But those were thoughts of the future. For now, there was a battle.

Retaliation came quickly. Punches of Expanding force rained down upon Drapion, but though it felt force there was naught a pinch of pain. Perhaps its Dark-typing protected it from the mental attacks. Whatever the cause may be. Drapion continued its fiery attempt at ripping the Metagross apart using FIRE FANG, from its close proximity.

The PSYCHIC of Meowstic met with that of Mr. Rime. Clashing in a battle of wills they both seemed unwilling to relent. But Meowstic did not share the same immunity to the PSYCHIC-type as her fellow team member. Powerful EXPANDING FORCE punches rained down upon it, disrupting the attack and letting Mr. Rime win the battle of wills adding its own PSYCHIC attack to the mix, sending the Meowstic skidding against the ground. Fur tattered and dirtied as it did. Halting just in front of Johanna.

As Meowstic rose once more pain grimaced its face. A clear barrier was erected as Meowstic used REFLECT.

Unfortunately for both Metagross and Penelope, typing was not on her mind, and so when the second crunch of fire bite down on the steel type's arm, it only after another sound of pain rung out that she realized her predicament.

"Shit shit shit..." Fumbling into her pockets, Penelope quickly reached for her Metagross' ball, wanting to return it before it was too late. But she couldn't find it. Hidden within the pile of duplicates, she continued to struggle to find it, all while her pokemon continued to fight for her.

Mr Rime, noticing the situation they were in, tried to assist his companion by using FREEZE DRY on the Drapion. If it succeeded, it'd leave the dark type at least slowed, if not frozen. Metagross, on the other hand, grunted as he attempted to break free through STEEL ROLLING forward, straight into the pokemon. A direct attack that would either leave them in a worse position than before, or on the other side of the field.

Drapion felt the cold hit it. Pain washed over it, and its joints stiffened but didn’t completely freeze as the fires of its fangs fought the cold.

But two-on-one was not a winnable fight. It let go of the Metagross just as it tried to roll over it, quickly lunging out of the way foregoing the metallic beast for the more tantalizing target of Mr. Rime. CRUNCH was its weapon of choice against the ice mime.

With Reflect in full effect, Meowstic rejoined its aggressive teammate. This time letting its DISARMING VOICE barrage Mr. Rime.

A protective shield surrounded the Mr Rime, PROTECTing the small mime from the wraith of the two monsters surrounding him. What it didn't stop was the dread that now fell upon Penelope's heart.

Finally, her hand found it's target. With a solid click, the Metagross is returned back to it's home, replaced by the caw of a new foe: an alteria bathed in coated in fluff and tuff.

Penelope was wrong for have engaging in this fight. She should've stayed back with the rest, back where Melody Miro and annalise henderson could've protected her. But no. She had to follow her heart's yelpings to actually do something for once.

Flapping both of her wings, the avian summon forth a wave of ravenous winds towards their opponents, with the clear goal of chasing them away. Sending them back where they came from.

The combined efforts of Drapion and Meowstic were thwarted by a protective barrier erected by Mr. Rime.

Drapion and Meowstic took stock of the situation. When the Altaria was summoned Johanna figured she needed to regroup. And so she used her Pokéballs to retrieve Drapion and Meowstic, summoning instead a Claydol in the nick of time.

The Hurricane washed over them Claydol felt the warm embrace of its trainer, and with it, Claydol TELEPORTED away.

Alas for reasons unknown perhaps interferences from the battles going on or something else. Whatever the reason may be. Johanna and Claydol did not get far. But far enough to sneak away from the battle defeated.
