Gideon had awoken to an unseasonably cold morning. Most would have slipped one foot out of bed, cursed the frigid temperature, and curled right back up in their blanket. Not him, though. He was looking forward to his plans for the day.[break][break]

He'd rented a cabin northwest of Slateport, in the rocky forests near Route 103. His only goal for the his little mini-vacation was to spend his time hiking the surrounding trails and photographing... well, whatever he liked.[break][break]

Per usual, his professional-quality camera hung from a harness secured around his torso. The lens was poised at his eye currently, as he'd seen a particularly lovely SWANNA flying overhead, perhaps migrating south for the winter. CRISPR, his VIVILLON, floated nearby, admiring the changing colors of the winter foliage.

ever since the meteor had broken apart, and hoenn was saved, there had been more ranger work than ever. as it turned out, hoenn wasn't particularly used to icy monsters the size of giant yeti freezing over near-half the region.

[break][break] walking back from assisting some of the oldale rangers with help re-locating some of their pokemon, ollie is on his way out of the small town when he spots a familiar face.

It was a gorgeous shot. The SWANNA was in full flight, it’s alabaster wings stretched to their limit. The early morning sun even shone through the flight feathers, giving the bird Pokémon an ethereal feel as it moved on to greener lands. Amazing.[break][break]

Gideon was so engrossed in his photography that he didn’t even notice the ranger approaching him until ollie morales was in his ear. He flinched slightly, but corrected himself upon realizing it was someone he knew.[break][break]

“Ranger Morales! It is indeed me.” A tempered smile curled the edges of the professor's lips. “Good to see you. What brings you out this way?”[break][break]

As the two men spoke, CRISPR noticed a WURMPLE crawling up a nearby tree trunk. Knowing Gideon’s affinity for Bug-type Pokémon, the VIVILLON fluttered over, released a few SLEEP POWDER spores on the insect, and then carried it over to where his owner stood.

[break][break] not even lars called him that. well, most of the time.

[break][break] he smiles brightly anyways.

[break][break] "oh, just making my rounds. the oldale rangers needed some help rounding up some of the pokemon — they're getting rowdy now that it's so cold out."

[break][break] not to mention the rifts, too, made things difficult.

[break][break] "what'cha got there?" he said, peering at the other's camera.

[break][break] meanwhile, his pikachu leaped off his shoulder to chase after a WILD SHUCKLE in the undergrowth. the two sparred for a minute, tofu's tail slapping against the shuckle's shell as it used a BIDE. before it could release the energy, his STATIC ability rendered the pokemon paralyzed and primed it for capture.

"Ollie, right." The name left his lips a little fumbled. Formality had been engrained in the professor since a young age and old habits died hard. [break][break]

Still, the ranger was breaking him of that, little by little.[break][break]

Gideon remembered his infectious positivity well. He found most personalities like this rather grating, but for whatever reason ollie morales was more amusing than anything else.[break][break]

"Hm? This?" He held his camera up at an angle, so that Ollie could sidle closer for a better look if he wanted to. "I do photography as a hobby. I got a pretty nice shot of a Swanna just now."[break][break]

Meanwhile, after depositing the WURMPLE at his feet, CRISPR fluttered off to do the same thing to a SHELMET a little ways off. Within minutes the bug was asleep and placed beside the other SLEEP POWDERED Pokémon.

[break][break] an easy, lopsided smile tugs at the corner of ollie's mouth. "you sure you want to keep your day job?"

[break][break] being a museum curator sounded so boring, but then again, it fitted nerdy types like GIDEON GRAVES.

[break][break] a zap from his pikachu quickly put the wandering corsola to sleep, and ollie threw a pokeball to be sure.

"Whatever you'd like, either way is fine." Giddie reminded him of john nelson, though. It'd been awhile since he'd seen his drinking buddy. Gideon hoped the man was doing well.[break][break]

Back to the camera, the professor tried to suppress a preening smile, but ultimately failed. "You really think so?"[break][break]

Photography had always just been an escape for him. Capturing little moments of beauty from the natural world. Nothing serious. Still, it was nice to hear someone like ollie morales admired his work.[break][break]

"People watching?" Gideon looked from left to right in an overexaggerated, theatrical manner. "Ollie, the only other person out here is you."[break][break]

CRISPR was apparently just starting a little bug pile for his trainer. A nearby SIZZLIPEDE wasn't exempt from this plan — soon enough it was asleep and added to the growing collection beside GIDEON GRAVES.

[break][break] he smirks, ignoring the relicanth that floats past. ollie wasn't sure why it was that he liked so nicknames so much — or why he liked trying nicknames with gideon specifically. maybe it was the way that the scientist reacted.

[break][break] he laughs.

[break][break] ollie stands, flexing in front of gideon in the most comical way that he could think of. he doesn't even notice the way that tofu crawls up behind him and makes a flying leap, just in time for the shutter to click.
