She ignores him; again. He doesn't even dignify it with a sigh, however. Much like the SLAKOTH hanging from an exposed pipe in the ceiling above, he's grown tired of getting nowhere very slowly. It turns to YAWN at him as he regards it, though he stops it with the press of a Luxury Ball midway. It disappears in a flash of golden light.

As he's packing away this latest capture, however— surprise, she speaks. It's not exactly what they had come here to talk about, of course. At least, not in his mind. But he appreciates the effort on her part. Or, at the very least, her curiosity.

"Kalos has some of the largest catacombs I've ever explored, right beneath LUMIOSE CITY, even. Paldea, on the other hand, boasts almost as many castles and keeps as Galar does. You've never been?" He asks.

If he'd known some time ago, during an era where the two had been an item, perhaps they could have gone together.

before hoenn, she had never even left snowpoint. there was no need to. she was shackled to the icy city by chains deemed too heavy to break.

"what do the catacombs hold?"

she likes to think there's some unknown treasure lurking beneath. it's better than a monster, she supposes.

her garchomp disappears for a moment. it returns with a poor dog caught between its jaws. she grimaces. her steps are quick as she rushes over to free the bun-like dog out of her garchomp's grasp. and once it's free, she holds it firmly in her arms and begins stroking the dachsbun's head until it begins to calm enough to slip into slumber.

Illeana hadn't shown this much interest in his profession for quite some time now. He doesn't know whether to be pleasantly surprised or cautious. "Bones," He answers plainly, watching as a SHEDINJA emerges from a wall further down the hall. "Bones and secrets. Sometimes treasure." Though very rarely nowadays.

When his Pyroar approaches to sniff at the Shedinja, it strikes at him with FURY SWIPES. It comes to immediately regret that decision, however, when the lion INCINERATES it. Remiel follows up with the toss of an empty Luxury Ball afterward.

the miltank is crushed into the ground beneath her garchomp's feet. illeana has to throw a pokeball quickly at the miltank before any organs are ruptured by her dragon's ferocity.

and the look she gives the garchomp in the aftermath is scolding in nature.

"secrets?"

things taken to the grave, perhaps, if they're found in an underground labyrinth of bones.

A CLEFABLE that considers itself a hall monitor, of sorts, steps out from behind a corner to chastise the trainers. As it wags a finger at them, however, and begins to cast a spell that might intensify the GRAVITY around them, Remiel's Pyroar is quick to SNATCH it up. The struggle that follows does not last for too long after it is shaken around like a rag doll and cast against the wall.

"The kind that the ancient rulers of that world wanted to keep hidden," Remiel responds, pulling out an empty Luxury Ball from his pack before tossing it at the fallen fairy. "Usually in a bid for self-preservation. Sometimes, however, for the safety of others."

The royal wondered where his own dark secret had resided between the two. Had he kept it from Illeana for self-preservation? Had it kept from luka chêne for her safety? Or were both instances a mixture of each reason? Perhaps that was why he still idolized his relationship with Isra Nightingale after all these years. There were no secrets there.

She'd known what he was, and she'd stayed.

Up until the very end...

[attr="class","illeana i"]a little laugh escapes. it's off, hollow. her laughter around him has long since lost its luster. what once tinkered now sounds as dead as their previous bond.

"keeping secrets is selfish, nothing more."

in the background, her garchomp bats a swablu out of the air. the fluffy body lands softly despite the force. she throws a pokeball at the swablu before her dragon can try biting it. another sharp look is given to the unruly dragon. pokemon are not dinner, not even for dragons.

"isn't that why you kept yours?"

she's fully looking at him now. eyes narrowed in barely contained anger, she perceives him as he is: a liar and a sinner, no saint.

"or did you think i'd ever believe it was for safety?"

foolish.

she does, after all, still remember the mask he wore that day. the same mask that visited her in the dark cells of rocket's submarine.

He nearly winces at that laugh. He knows what it implies; understands what it cost. Nevertheless, he knows that Illeana is hypocritical in her stance. She'd kept secrets herself, even if she wished to think she'd simply omitted the truth. Though, admittedly, his were likely worse still.

She casts him a glare with her last words. And, despite Illeana being right, he doesn't waver in the face of it. "The pursuit of power was reason enough... or so I thought."

Before he can add anything further, however, a DRIFLOON drifts down the hallway towards them. It MINIMIZES in their presence, seemingly made anxious by their serious stares. His Pyroar SNATCHES it down from the sky before it advances any further, however. Remiel then pulls out an empty Luxury Ball to catch it, before turning back to Illeana.

"That's something you'll come to understand in full someday... if you continue down the path you're on." Palkia. Dialga. Arceus itself. Was she certain she wouldn't crumble beneath the weight of any of that power? Was she ready to truly sacrifice anything for it?

"don't patronize me."

a few feet away, her garchomp has stumbled upon an obstagoon. they engage in a wrestling match of sorts, as if testing each other's strength. the dragon gains the upper hand quickly. it isn't long before the obstagoon is pinned down beneath the dragon's claws. she has to toss a pokeball at the obstagoon before her garchomp can indulge in a bite.

"i know damn well what path i'm on and what it holds."

she shows teeth in a display of aggression.

"you forget, i had power before."

and in the end, she had lost it. not again. never again.

He's touched a nerve, that much is clear. Given the gaping wound that he'd left her, both literally and figuratively, that much was to be expected. Withholding a sigh that naturally wants to come about, however, Remiel nods in understanding as they continue their stroll onward.

"Very well. I did not mean to insult you. As someone who has obtained and wielded power in various different forms, however, I simply wished to impart a simple..." Warning. "... reminder. Perhaps you might be able to form some concept of understanding for my actions, though I'm not asking to be forgiven."

Forgiveness was entirely up to her.

his explanation reeks of mansplaining, of his path and his experiences being more important lessons than her own. it leaves her bitter, angry, seething.

and she dissolves into a sneer without hesitation, without thinking that might not be the best course of action.

it comes as natural as breathing.

"i do not want nor care for a reminder from you."

her eyes are daggers, even as a small golett manages to waddle up and slip its small clay hand into hers.

"there is no understanding your lies or your manipulation, ambassador."

and with that, she lets out a soft hmph and looks to place more distance between them. her steps are a little quicker, though not fast enough to drag the golett along by the hand. she is gentler with the golett, careful and motherly. her garchomp, however, snarls low in the prince's direction and turns to follow her further down the hallway.
