"I was a high-ranking member within ROCKET... I had been for years," Remiel admits as they stroll through the spacious halls of MAUVILLE HILLS. Beside him, a regal SHINY PYROAR keeps pace. Its tail sways gently as its eyes remain on high alert.

"But that's over now. They crossed a line I wouldn't. Now I'm just trying to make sense of what to do next." He admits, shifting his cobalt blue hues over at illeana reyes as she listened. Getting her to meet him like this hadn't been easy. In fact, he was sure it'd almost gotten him killed.

The injury she'd given him still ached as it healed. Nevertheless, the royal is glad she's given him the chance to explain himself. Especially after all the work they had put into mending their relationship prior to MT. PYRE.

why would she? it's all lies. every single one.

her face has been twisted into an irritated scowl since she begrudgingly showed up with her garchomp in tow. the dragon even looks somewhat annoyed, as if feeding off the animosity from its trainer.

"you know..."

she turns toward him suddenly. and maybe it's a trick of the bright overhead lights but a glint of violent tendencies shines a little too sharply.

"if you keep talking, i'll stab you again."

an understanding rises, then. she knows he won't exactly shut up, just as he knows she isn't necessarily as armed as she was during mt pyre. and yet, she doesn't bother to say much else. instead, she simply turns her attention back to the hallway they're traveling down and quickens her step.

Remiel falls silent. Not because he feels threatened, of course. Though his injury does seem to ache a little harder at the words, almost as if his very body was echoing something like fear on its own accord. No, the royal simply wants to show her some respect. She deserved it.

Meanwhile, his Pyroar drops into a crouched crawl as it approaches a BUNEARY nearby. The little bunny is raiding a home garden where some tenant has grown some ripe tomatoes. Before it can stand on its tippy-toes and pluck one, however, the lion BOUNCES and subdues it under his paws. Remiel then pulls an empty ball out of his pack and tosses it at the captured prey. Its devoured in a flash of golden light.

[attr="class","illeana i"]silence settles with a certain oomph. tense, coiled like a viper ready to strike.

and in a way, perhaps she is.

her garchomp strides forward with a low growl and illeana is quick to follow. any distance between them eases the weight on her shoulders. on her heart, even. and when a whimsicott trots across their path, her garchomp lunges to pin it down with its jaws. she tosses a pokeball quickly. the less it suffers beneath her dragon's jaws, the better.

and faintly, in the back of the mind like an echo, she chides herself for ever agreeing to show in the first place. her side still aches and burns with the sting of a woman scorned.

There seems to be a TREASURE CHEST awaiting them at the end of their current hallway. But, before they can approach it further, a TAUROS emerges from behind a corner. It taps its hoof against the linoleum floor before charging forward with a HORN ATTACK and reckless abandon. "Illeana, heads up!" Remiel calls out.

Thankfully, his Pyroar BOUNCES in to strike the Tauros before it can fully close in. Now seemingly paralyzed and unable to get back up on all fours, it is helpless against the toss of a Luxury Ball that Remiel has pulled out of his pack.

Rather than proceed to the treasure chest ahead himself, however, the Galarian turns to regard Illeana. "Are you okay?" He asks, his concerned look shifting with a sigh when she doesn't respond. "Please talk to me."

[attr="class","illeana i"]her focus is honed in. trained solely on the treasure chest. it sparkles, odd in a way she can't place. and what is it doing here?

in her pursuit of creeping closer to the concept of treasure, she doesn't quite hear remiel's warning. only the sound of hooves.

her head snaps up to attention. and as her expression dissolves from irritation to surprise, remiel's pyroar makes quick work of the approaching tauros before it can do much damage.

she heaves out a little shaky puff of air. crisis averted.

"i'm fine."

it's short, clipped. unwarranted, perhaps, but she's still scorned despite his savior complex. her mouth opens again but an odd sort of sound rings out. it sounds like chittering. and it's not coming from her...

she leaves remiel behind to approach the treasure chest. when she gets a little too close and bends, ready to open the lock, it jolts into the open position.

"is that... a pokemon?"

it's odd, like a little gremlin living in as many coins as it could gather. and it's evident by the look in her eyes: she wants it.

her garchomp approaches and pins the gimmighoul down with one of its hands, keeping it from moving too much as she pulls an empty pokeball out from her belt and taps it to the gimmighoul's head. the treasure chest gremlin disappears into the pokeball and she waits for the click of capture.

Finally, she responds — though it is as curt and sharp as he might have expected. Regardless, Remiel takes that as a small win and a step forward. There was no point in this meeting if they didn't initiate some meaningful conversation eventually, after all. Then again, perhaps he simply hadn't said anything Illeana wanted to hear yet.

The mystery of the treasure chest draws her attention away for the time being, however, and Remiel begins to follow as they inspect it. "A... Gimmighoul?" He remarks in response, having some experience with them in archaeological digs, and the catacombs and treasuries of his palace as well.

But, just before he watches his former lover capture it, a TRANQUILL descends from the sky to QUICK ATTACK his Pyroar. It had been attracted to the gleam of gold, after all, and was now protecting a treasure it believed was its own. Unfortunately for it, the Pyroar in question INCINERATES the bird. Then Remiel tosses an empty ball at it.

her eyes are sharp when they turn to him. less curious, more accusatory. it's hostile, really, but she chooses to ignore such an aspect.

the pokeball containing the gimmighoul is returned to her belt as a shedinja finds itself wandering a little too close to her garchomp.

and as her dragon pins the barely there husk down with a shift movement of its leg, she throws a pokeball at the shedinja. she's certain her garchomp wouldn't be able to hurt it, at least, but best to take it in out of caution. besides, her shedinja at home have become a little lonely... maybe they'd do better in a group.

Remiel nods. "I've seen them before. Archaeological digs. Catacombs. Paldea." He doesn't notice the hostility in her gaze until he turns to look at her. "What's the look for?" Whether she purposefully ignores his question or not, however, a SHEDINJA interrupts her shortly thereafter, and a RATATA runs across the hallway.

Atticus' feline instincts kick into high gear. He pounces on the rat with such swift agility that it stands no chance against the might of his large paws. With a NOBLE ROAR, he announces this capture. Remiel considers issuing the command to let it go, but instead tosses an empty ball at it.

it echoes off the tongue. a foreign name for a foreign place. she knows next to nothing of the region. growing up, it had always seemed like a fabled place, lingering just outside of reality's touch.

his question does, in fact, go ignored. she leaves it to die beneath their feet as her garchomp leads her forward.

a mismagius rises up out of the floor. her garchomp startles with a guttural growl. she blinks and the mismagius is pinned down by garchomp's mouth before it can phase back out. she throws a pokeball to snag it or else it'd slip right out from her fingers. she's tired of such a thing. her grip has gotten too tight to allow it.

"i didn't know paldea had catacombs. are they similar to kalos?"
