It’s not exactly ski resort material, especially not with the countless frozen corpses of Pokémon that stand all over the field as if ice statues – truly giving the Silent Iceland an eerie atmosphere. There’s no doubt that Hoenn’s ever so skilled tourism agencies will eventually manage to make Kyurem’s wasteland seem as if it were another one of the region’s multiple fascinating attractions, but for now, to most it’s no more than a reminder of all the suffering they had so very recently endured…

The Gholdengo doesn’t really seem to care about any of that, though.

Standing on its golden board, it glides effortlessly over the iceland, as if it were an expert snowboarder with no need for slopes. By its side, a man calmly walks, not being nearly as interested in enjoying the snow as his golden pokémon. He’s much more preoccupied with their surroundings – eyes equally as golden searching for something.

Sitting on his pack, which has been placed atop a frozen tree stump, Remiel sketches a PIDGEOT frozen mid-takeoff. It's quite the majestic sculpture now, really. Though, admittedly, finding art in such devastation wasn't really what brought him to the SILENT ICELANDS.

No, the man was here attempting to research KYUREM by investigating first-hand the consequences of its power. He'd brought his CHANDELURE, MICTE, with him as well. She hovered within six feet of him always, gently swaying and keeping watch of their surroundings as she provided heat. When she finally hears something, however, she comes to a sharp stop and chimes. Remiel, too, pauses to look.

There is no water nearby. How it is that a Lapras made it all the way here is a mystery to Mars. Yet, there it is: moving through the snow – the sole thing that doesn’t seem to be frozen perpetually. When he sees it, he pauses, causing the Gholdengo to make a sharp turn on its board and spread powder snow everywhere.

Mars clicks his tongue, and water type as the Lapras is, the Gholdengo’s choice is obvious: it glides forward on its board, striking the wild pokémon with loud and overwhelming THUNDER

It’s only once the battle ends and a Luxury Ball is casually thrown that Mars’ attention turns to the man sitting nearby.

”Remy.” There’s fondness in the greeting, a slight smile tugging at his lips. He nods towards the other's sketch. ”Finding grim muses?”

Oh, it's Martín del Mar who has come to visit them. Remiel smiles. "Something like that. It's all quite fantastical, isn't it? Like something out of a storybook or myth."

Just as he says so, a rather precocious TINKATUFF saunters onto the scene with a hammer in hand. She seems to have some sort of grudge against the bird trapped within the ice and takes a BRUTAL SWING to try and shatter its icy prison. The attempt fails, however, and the hammer simply bounces out of her grasp before shooting toward the pair of men nearby. Remiel must swiftly lean out of the way to avoid being hit. Then Micte swoops in.

With a ghostly HEX, the Chandelure immobilizes the Tinkatuff before she can run to retrieve her weapon. Afterward, Remiel reaches into his pack for a Luxury Ball of his own. With a swift toss, he attempts to capture the fairy.

The Tinkatuff sure knows how to put on a show, and Mars finds himself chuckling at the sight of the small pokémon attempting to smack the frozen bird with its hammer. He had always liked the species when seeing them during his childhood visits to Paldea, and admittedly they also earned a spot in his heart much later.

”That it is.” He finally responds in agreement with Remy’s words, looking at their surroundings and spotting a Snorunt. It wanders in the distance, minding its own business, but that sure doesn’t stop the banker from nodding for his Gholdengo to attack. ”Who knows, maybe it might just become a myth one day.”

Don’t most things about Hoenn sound fantastical in nature to those hearing about them?

Surely they both know that feeling well, but Mars does not dwell on the matter. Instead, he throws a Luxury Ball once the Gholdengo has done its job.

Remiel chuckles. "Maybe one day when I'm old and frail I can teach this new 'mythology' and say I lived it." Assuming he survived to tell these fantastical tales in the first place, that is.

In the meantime, an aggressive WALREIN drags its mass across the snow before sliding down a hill toward them. A ROLLOUT forms as a result, but Remiel's Lampent is quick to defrost the situation with an INFERNO. The rollout becomes more of a pitiful collapse, and the Walrein drops unconscious in front of them shortly thereafter.

"Have you been here often since the event?" Remiel inquires, producing an empty Luxury Ball from his pack before casting it down.

Back in my day…” Naturally, that last part is said in a delightful (not) and perfect (far from it) Galarian lilt, as if to imitate the manner of speech of our dear Remiel Calcifet. As per usual, Mars is just teasing him, obviously. “Jokes aside, I think you’d make a good teacher.”

That one is most definitely not a joke, what sure looks like one though is the Pokémon that soon approaches the group. It looks like an ice cream cone. A giant, sentient ice cream cone. Mars is not a fan, but it at least will make good target practice for his Gholdengo.

Remiel laughs at the poor imitation of a Galarian accent. Though he's sure he would absolutely butcher a Paldean accent himself if he tried. "Thanks, Mars. I'd like to think so, too." Though, certainly, he did not see himself becoming a teacher anytime soon.

After dealing with a VANILLUXE, the other man responds to his last inquiry. "This is my second time here," Remiel admits. "I'm getting a good grasp of the terrain. Though I wished I'd been here to see KYUREM." He adds, just before a BRONZONG floats through to interrupt their conversation with an incessant METAL SOUND.

Thankfully, Micte makes short work of it with an INFERNO. Afterward, Remiel tosses a Luxury Ball at the living bell.

Conversation flows easily, to the point that Mars barely pays attention to Oro’s doings. Barely. In the corner of his eye, he can see the Gholdengo sizing up a Beartic as if to determine if the ice type would make for a worthy opponent. Mars decides to make the decision for it, simply whistling to get Oro to attack.

While the pokémon engage in combat, the banker’s attention goes to Remiel.

“That makes two of us. It sounds incredible, from the reports I’ve seen.” The word choice is purposeful. Incredible. Their reasons to be interested in Kyurem are likely much different, but of course, Mars is not aware of this. “Should have known the DRK Triad was keeping something like that hidden.”

Which, of course, does make him wonder… If the DRK Triad is in possession of Kyurem and Enamorus, and if they had captured Dialga and Palkia as well, can the same be said for every Pokémon the Unown-? had reported? Last year, Father Winter had mentioned Wyrdeer in his letters…

Remiel briefly recalls the events of the CYBERCHASE he'd been a part of, suppressing the damning confession he'd made to luka chêne (and their near sacrifice) in favor of the intel he'd gathered regarding the DRK TRIAD.

"With the power at their disposal, I'd be hard-pressed to imagine something they aren't capable of," Remiel responds, shifting his eyes to the side at the presence of a KLEFKI attempting to pickpocket his keys. The little MAGICIAN, however, is noticed by Micte when she spins. A swift HEX immobilizes the would-be thief, after which Remiel captures it with a Luxury Ball before continuing.

"Aside from simply deleting our universe with the press of a button. It seems they need some kind of vessel or cosmic power to accomplish that."
