it's an odd sensation to dive into the ocean the same way he had done many times before in his life; odd because of the growing sense of discomfort he feels being engulfed in water. being surrounded by the ocean.[break][break]

he does his best to suppress the feeling as he's dunked into the water. his eyes open, blinking as he looks at a school of colorful bruxish darting away. no pyukumuku, though.[break][break]

kicking ahead, he starts swimming, moving through the water with relative ease before reaching out to tap her on the back of her leg. he points to his right.[break][break]

and look at that! it's a pincurchin. that's pretty much the same pokemon, right?

Eva is in hot pursuit of her own Pyukumuku. The competitive streak in her is itching to beat him and find the elusive little beast. She turns around when she feels the gentle tap of his finger against the back of her leg. Eva’s gaze drifts down to the Pinurchin.

The spiky electric-type isn’t what they’re looking for. She frowns, shaking her head and giving him a thumbs down. Nice try, but that’s not Pyukumuku!

The Pinurchin doesn’t seem too happy about their intrusion. The little spikes on its back tremor before releasing a FURY ATTACK at them, a warning to keep their distance.

not expecting the pincurchin to straight up attack them, one of its little spikes ends up embedding itself into matias' shoulder. he glances down at it, frowns, then pulls it out before flipping off the little pincurchin.[break][break]

but in doing so, he catches a glimpse of pyukumuku's colors out of the corner of his eye. he turns, then darts off to the side to try and chase one down.[break][break]

it notices him and tries to swim away, but who is faster?

Ouch.

Eva winces at the sight of the FURY ATTACK needle wedging its way into Matias’ skin. Of course, she’s not too worried. It wasn’t like it was a poison sting or something. Matias would be fine. He’s a big boy.

Her wince turns into a giggle when she watches him flip off the Pinurchin. She can’t help it, and it makes her choke on a little bit of salt water. Her eyes grow wide and she’s forced to the surface for a breath.

By the time she dives back down, Matias is already swimming after the Pyukumuku. There’s no way a Pyukumuku is that fast, it doesn’t even have a fin. It does, however, have a large, creepy hand that extends from one end. It reaches out and grabs the edge of the reef, pulling itself deep into a cavern and out of sight.

there's no way this pyukumuku has a hand. what in the world?[break][break]

as the pyukumuku pulls itself deep into one of the caverns, he's forced back up to the surface to catch his breath. he breathes, mostly sighing in disbelief.[break][break]

"today i learned..."[break][break]

but realizing he's given eva enough time, he dives back down, quickly following after her in an attempt to catch the pyukumuku.

Eva would be more than happy to educate Matias on the anatomy of Pyukumuku once they caught it. Matias quickly heads to the surface and Eva is given a little extra time to go after the little pokemon.

Matias would return to find Eva shoulder deep in the little cave under the reef in which it had disappeared. Her finger brush against its slimy exterior. She’s just a bit too short to grab a hold of the thing. Luckily, it wants to grab her too!

It’s innards rotate out and the little hand grabs her own, engulfing her arm up to the wrist. She yanks it out of the cave and triumphantly waves it above her head as she heads for the surface, “Got it!” she gasps for air as the Pyukumuku wiggles around on her hand, “Touch it, it’s slimy,” she hold it out for Matias to pet.

soon enough, he resurfaces the loser of their little bet. he breathes a sigh but he can't really be upset as the sight of her happy makes him happy.[break][break]

"shit."[break][break]

a smile quickly overcomes him as he approaches, reaching out to touch the pyukumuku.[break][break]

"ugh, i mean nice, it's so slimy."[break][break]

and sticky, too.[break][break]

"looks like you won fair and square, babe."

Eva laughs at his ugh. It is a strange feeling, a firm slimy little thing, “Try having it wrapped around your hand,” she mutters, pulling it back towards her to shake it off, “That’s extra bleh.”

She doesn’t rub her winning in his face, that’s not very nice . . . she’ll do it later. It takes a minute but after some vigorous shaking, the Pyukumuku finally lets go and zooms back towards the reef to hide again.

“I’m getting kinda hungry,” she admits, starting to slowly swim back towards shore, “We should get dinner soon, settle in, I made big plans for us to head to Akala Island tomorrow to hike up to the volcano,” she grins back at Matias, figuring he’d like that. She had to butter him up before dragging him up to the top of Mount Hokulani to visit the Observatory and ask their scientists some questions . . . but she wasn’t officially working, this was vacation! Purely for her own interest.
