BOTH OF YOUR CAPTURE ATTEMPTS ARE SUCCESSFUL!

Vanessa hopped back aboard Snacker, paddling over towards Josh as she'd look at the little Mantine bumping into Josh. She quietly watched, her mismatched eyes bouncing between Josh and the other Pokemon. It was a little heartwarming to see that despite the little guy being wild, he had a history with Josh. After being faced with the choice of tagging along, the Mantine would bump into the pokeball and join Josh's crew. "Huh, did you guys know each other or something?" she asked, "It looked like you two knew each other." Her answer came but her eyes locked onto another Pokemon over yonder. "Ahhhh! Lookit that Azumaril! I'm gunna catch it!" she puttered away towards the Azumaril on the shore while Sonar followed by her.

"Just like last time, Sonar! Catch 'em off guard with an Air Slash!" The Noibat let out a happy screech and fluttered over towards the Azumaril before launching several highly pressurized waves at the the pokemon, slamming into it Pokemon as it spun around to face the flying bat currently attacking it. The water mouse would rear its head for a moment before then aiming to slam into the Noibet. Thankfully Sonar was agile enough to avoid it outright instead of just sitting and taking it. "Atta boy, Sonar! Now WIng Attack it!" The Noibat screeched out and sliced into the Azumaril like the last foe, tackling it away as Sonikku tossed a pokeball out and smacked into the Azumaril's side. Enveloped in a red light, the pokemon retreated inside of the ball and all was well.

Josh Devlin

With an unfamiliar rider on him, the Sharpedo briefly flailed about before a look from his trainer ultimately caused him to relinquish control to Sonikku. "Just be careful with him. He's the fastest purely aquatic Pokémon I have, and he can jump really high with his Aqua Jet, too."

When asked about the Mantine, Josh replied, "It's a bit of a story. Back in the before times, there was this big water festival in Slateport. It included a surfing contest with Mantine, and this is the Mantine I consistently used. I'm amazed it remembered me!"

Once Sonikku's battle was over, Josh did a quick demonstration of his Dragonair mount's sea-to-air capabilities, the serpentine dragon swimming through the air just like it was water. "See, they can fly with little trouble!"

"I'll take good care of him, don't worry! I know how to go around and make sure the water lovers are all happy." Sonikku scoffed at Josh's words but would definitely take care of any Pokémon that he'd entrust to her. The teenager did listen to the tale of how Josh and the Mantine had gotten to know one another. The bond that could exist between Pokémon and human certainly was something beyond words! Sonikku had always thought Mantine were pretty cool, all those huge flapping water wings! After he finished, she's clap both hands together. "That's pretty cool! Glad you two could find each other again!"

But what really caught here eye was the demonstration of the Dragonair's capabilities of flying in the air. It brought a sense of awe to the young racer's eyes, thrilled to see something that she ad never seen before. "You weren't kidding! This thing could fly through air like it was nothing!"

With his rider fixated on Resheph, Snacker quickly grew bored. Wrenching control back from Sonikku, he bucked and flailed a little harder than before, then bounced and zoomed across the water's surface with a powerful AQUA JET that struck a surfacing Whiscash. The retaliating MAGNITUDE created a gigantic wave that Snacker rode to an enormous leap. Unlike most water Pokémon, though, Snacker could use his AQUA JET to alter his jump trajectory mid-leap, slamming into the ground-type with a vicious BITE that the ground-type struggled to get out of.

"Sonikku!" Josh cried as he wheeled Resheph around. When he saw the altercation between the Sharpedo and wild Whiscash, he immediately tossed a Poké Ball toward the ground-type Pokémon. "You okay?" he asked. "We should probably get back to the beach and start flying instead. It'd be a lot safer than these waters. I had no idea how aggressive the wild Pokémon were around here!"

Provided Sonikku would agree to return, Snacker would ferry her back to the shallows. Josh would then send out his hwo flying Pokémon: a Togekiss who slowly floated away from both of them with a prideful look on his face, and a Flygon who looked ready and raring to go, his wings roaring like a vehicle engine. "These two are Mastema and Verte," Josh introduced the flying Pokémon. "You're welcome to fly on either of them while we look for more Pokémon!"

Josh Devlin CAUGHT THE WHISCASH!

Snacker, evidently having grown restless of standing around, would suddenly buck and begin to coarse around as Sonikku would rock and fumble on the Pokemon. "Whoa, whoa! Easy, Snacker. Just take it eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeasy!" She said, soon being rocketed across the water at high speeds. It was only by some miracle that Sonikku grabbed the railing just in time before take off. It was roaring to get back up to speed, SOnikku flailing around to try and get a better footing. Her stray eyes would catch a Whiscash surfacing as it all became too clear what it was doing. "Y-You could at least fling me off before going wild on some lunch!" It made contact, slamming into the attacking Whiscash as she finally found some semblance of stillness. Josh would come to her rescue, as the teenager would recover almost instantly, gently patting the Sharpedo. "That was awesome! I wanna go even faster next time, but just warn me, okay?"

On the way back, Sonikku would eye a poor Seismitoad that had gotten knocked out by the unfortunate timing of the waves being struck against the aquatic Pokémon. She tossed out a pokeball as it struck its stomach, capturing the Pokémon as they'd make their way over and regroup. It looked like it was to the skies now, as the two would get ready to start soaring across the blue skies. He'd introduce the two pokemon as Sonikku would gravitate towards Verte, showering it with affection. "Lookit you! I always loved FLygons' little cut racing goggles! Let's go!" she said to Josh, hopping up in the saddle.

Josh was floored to see Sonikku's reaction to Snacker's chaotic, reckless battle with the Whiscash that had been sent back to his Gym by now. "Wait, you... you said him bucking and throwing you around like that was fun? You're... you're something else, you know that?" There was only one other person Josh knew that had that same quirk. Someone he had known for years. A green-ette infamous for sticking her neck into places in nature that it really didn't belong. "There's a young girl about my age that lives off-grid in a treehouse and around a plateau in Petalburg Woods. She's a little hard to get ahold of, but I think you two would be great friends. She's just like you."

The normally serious Verte smiled, tilting his neck toward his trainer's fangirl and nuzzling her gently if she allowed it. The Flygon crouched to let Sonikku aboard more easily. When he felt she was as secured as she would get, the dragon-type gave her a taste of what was to come as Josh hoisted himself atop Mastema, his Togekiss. Both of the Flygon's wings vanished, the guest rider perhaps experiencing a tingling sensation as the wings let out a hum from how fast they were beating. It seemed the green dragon flew more like an insect than a true dragon!

"Well, duh!" Sonikku said, sticking her tongue out. "I'm a bit of a speed demon! So anything that's a wild ride is gunna take my interest." Her hand fell over to gently shower Verte with more affection, although hoping that he wasn't going to crunch down on it. Josh brought up that one woman that he had done a while back. The green haired girl that was said to have a love of getting into trouble and getting a little wild herself. It was just as enticing now than it was a coupe days prior. "That's good to hear! I bet the world could use another of me around, hehe~" she chuckled to herself, puffing her chest out proudly. The other pokemon nearby did their only little things while Sonikku leaned forward on top of her mounted ride. "So how often do you race by air anyway? I thought a lot of it was on the ground?"

Sonikku doubled down, even going so far as to mock Josh. "...Yep, you're exactly like her. Maybe even crazier than she is. Like you, there's truly not a Pokémon you won't hop on, is there? And some of my challengers say I have a problem with that." He paused for a few seconds to think about whether it would be healthy for those two to meet up. As reckless as as the blue-haired young lady was, she was extremely talented in the saddle. She would be fine!

Right?

"Her name's Shalin Nariya . She's short, green-haired, and wears solid green, too. She lives next to a plateau hidden in the northeast corner of Pelatburg Woods, but she's often out and about. If you want, I can give you her number and let her know who you are. Just be careful around her. She often gets herself in over her head." Suddenly, the Gym Leader received a phone call from his secretary. "Far as aerial races -- hold on a moment - I need to take this call." He guided Mastema away from the buzzing Flygon so the noise wouldn't be quite so loud. "Leader Devlin. Yes? Are you kidding me...? I'm on the way." After less than a minute, he was off the line.

"Sonikku, I'm so sorry to cut this one short, but I need to get back to Mauville Gym immediately. I have an urgent matter I need to attend to." It was a shame; he didn't want to let that Swanna get away, but who knew how long a battle with one would take. "It's a shame too; this weather was absolutely perfect. You want to meet up again, give me or my Gym a call. We'll work something out. Have a good one."
