Instead of acknowledging him with her words, Lugia focuses on her own RECOVERY. Twisting vines from the FRENZY PLANT lash at her wings and a SHADOW STORM akin to her own dark powers elicits a haunting cry of anger and agony.[break][break]

She remains airborne, soothed by shimmering energy.[break][break]

The League forces call for a retreat, and Gavin calls loudly across ROCKET comms: "Bring them down if you can, but do not pursue!" He'd seen how the Z-move had invigorated them all. "Stay together!"[break][break]

They would not allow the League to turn the tide of battle toward them on Hoennian soil; best to make their stand here, where the League were weakest.

It would seem that Desolence was in for a harsh battle, as both the Kleavor and its master seemed unyielding in their resolve. Before Desolence's tail could even make contact however, as a Focus Blast would soon knock it away. Oscar followed the blast to its source, and created a heart with his hands toward fern delaney . It was very thoughtful of him to back Oscar up.

Even though her attack did not hit, the special effect of Desolence's iron tail would quickly change her body. Black crystals began to encase her, covering her leathery skin with an armor-like shell. With her vicious transformation complete, the now Poison/Steel type would screech with blood lust. She craved carnage, and Oscar was not going to withhold her from achieving it.

Between the legendary Shadow Lugia becoming a magnet for all of the League's attacks and the League starting their retreat, now was the perfect time to get some potshots in. Oscar agreed with Gavin, as long as they could get access to the portal it did not matter if the League got away or not. Pursuit would be futile and fruitless. However, that did not mean that he would refrain from making their retreat as difficult as possible.

Oscar pointed toward the League's side. "Wash them away!" Desolence roared, stomping her feet to raise toxic fluid from beneath the earth. The gathering sludge would create a large wave that would shortly be sent careening toward the League members and their pokemon (Sludge Wave).

tl;dr
--Oscar is super thankful for Fern's intervention.
--Nidoqueen's special ability changes her type to Poison/Steel.
--Nidoqueen used Sludge Wave on the retreating League side.

The ball of confusion clashed with the safeguard that surrounding the group giving the Lucario a chance to let out a breath of relief. Its Z-Move had drained its stamina for a moment and in that moment fear took over when it saw retaliation coming right back at it. Luckily it wasn't alone in this fight. Unlucky for them it seemed like they needed to leave as soon as possible.

Kazimir silently cursed this development but the soothing sounds of Callan Young's Toxicitry managed to ease his nerves. He was right, they needed to get outta dodge. "Skywalker! Let's go! Luka with me!" The trainer called out as he made his way over to luka chêne once again to put himself between Rocket and them if only temporary. His Lucario was hesitant but quickly sprinted with extreme speed right in and through the portal following Callan to make sure that it didn't get stuck on this side of the portal at least.

Aw shit, here we go again.

"This gonna be a hell of a report." Grumbled Doug as the energy of Callan Young's z-move welled up in his limbs, supercharging their allies.

If there was one thing he hated more than losing, it was losing to Rocket.

"We're leaving, bug brains, stop flexing!" Doug shouted at his Orbeetle as he palmed its carapace and yanked back, interrupting its shadow storm as the sludge wave sent forth by oscar clayton began to barrel towards them.

Sprinting towards the portal following his allies, he leapt in and disappeared, leaving the rockets back on the desert.

In the end, Fern’s gengar doesn’t need to transport him back across the makeshift battlefield as their opponents withdraw one by one. He catches sight of oscar clayton ’s gesture of appreciation and sends a hand heart back to the other, followed by a thumbs up.[break][break]

Of course he was going to help out where it made sense![break][break]

Nodding at Cillian Quinn ’s instruction, Fern falls back in line alongside the rest—prepared to make any moves should the need arise—[break][break]

“Send them off, Morty~” The grin remains fixed to the gengar’s face as she tails them until she’s just shy of the portal exit. Then she sends off one last FOCUS BLAST to hurdle after the league members. If anything, to at least deter them from making any further attempts to loop back around and return.[break][break]

tldr; + the phantom force is unneeded as league retreats through the portal entrances. Falls back in with the rest of rocket[break]

Words of protest die quickly on her lips. Luka defers quickly to those who know much better than her: Callan Young, John Sullivan and Kazimir Wynter are far more seasoned battlers than she is. And they're right— the four of them are outnumbered, and with Lugia in the mix, it's best to retreat before they suffer any heavy losses.[break][break]

She feels a pang of guilt at having not been able to help more. Perhaps to ease her conscious, she quickly swaps her Musharna for her Clefable, and throws up another wall of Protect to shield their group as they make a hasty escape.[break][break]

Even though the sting of a battle lost follows her, she knows it's still a victory if all of them are alive and unhurt and able to fight another day. Rocket can win the battle, but they haven't won the war; and the fact that the four of them have made it out of this means they all still have a fighting chance. It's not a happy thought, but it still gives her hope— and for now, that's all they have to cling to.[break][break]
