it's overstepping, perhaps, but the thought of macarons has an exciting effect on the scientist. they're yummy and delicious and she'd never even imagine turning them down.

and as primrose enjoys her pokeblock with grace, illeana focuses on elisabeth, on the conversation they're enjoying.

she flashes a smile, even letting out an amused sort of giggle.

the night of the masquerade had certainly been enjoyable. between dances, exhibits, and some risky actions in darkened corridors, she had left the night more than pleased with the entire event.

she brightens at the question, too, for discussing the exhibit she had donated feels rewarding in some small regard... like she had actually done something right or useful by getting involved.

"oh, it was the primal crystals and meteorite exhibit!"

her smile widens almost fondly.

"i had included a meteorite from my personal collection for the occasion. i thought the exhibit needed something special."

The idea of teaching someone how to bake was surprisingly a welcome one. It reminded her of being a girl with her mother, of pleasant childhood memories in the kitchen side-by-side.[break][break]

As Primrose delicately nibbled at her Pokeblock, Elisabeth tilted her head back, recalling the exhibit. Her eyes widened.[break][break]

"A personal meteorite?" she repeated, her fascination obvious. "That's a rare thing to possess, much less to loan for others to view at their leisure."[break][break]

Some simple fact about Illeana kept escaping her. Something she ought to know, but hadn't pinned down, due to meeting the woman in such an unexpected way that felt separate from her studies on League intelligence.[break][break]

"There's a story behind that, I'm sure?"

"yes, but it had been collecting dust in my lab otherwise... i figured placing it on display would put some use into it."

besides, she has yet to figure out how to utilize the chunk of space material for her own gain. once she does, it'll no longer sit idly on a bookshelf.

"oh, um, not too much of a story behind it, i suppose?"

the memory is one of hyper beams and near death experience. isn't everything in this region rooted in the same concept?

"i was part of an excursion team in meteor falls. we had to extract meteorite fragments while avoiding the titan guarding them."

she had nearly died that day, hadn't she? she remembers the masked man who had saved her. the very man she unmasked in the thick of it all on mt pyre. the expression Remiel Calcifet wore when his fox mask fell is still etched into her memory even now.

"An excursion team? You must be some sort of archeologist, then?"[break][break]

The name 'Illeana' rang a faint bell since this encounter began, but she couldn't pinpoint why. Without the surname, context eluded her.[break][break]

"A titan sounds dangerous. I'm glad you made it out alive."[break][break]

A hand idly ran through her golden curls, lost to thought. Primrose had finished the Pokeblock, and with it, her impatience for her mistress's attention returned. Undaunted, the Roselia tugged at Elisabeth's skirts, hmphing softly.[break][break]

Curiosity warred with her desire to appease her Pokemon's poor behavior, and she frowned up at the darkening sky.[break][break]

"I fear if I stay too much longer, however, my companion will begin to rebel against me. Would you happen to be willing to meet again sometime? Maybe somewhere quieter than here."

[attr="class","illeana i"]her head shakes from side to side, waving off the title of archeologist with a slightly bitter sting. the profession had been ruined for her in the end, electrocuted into an early death by a man she keeps at a six foot distance.

"no, i'm -- uh, head scientist, actually."

she looks a little proud of the title but it comes heavy against her shoulders, worn down and wearing thin. any additional pressure and she crumbles.

"it was definitely... something, that's for sure."

dangerous doesn't quite surmount to the experience. well, it does yet doesn't. the memory still exists in an odd sense of nostalgic anxiety she can't seem to sort through with her hands.

a look of apology rises quickly as her eyes drop from elisabeth onto the impatient primrose. had she taken up too much of elisabeth's time? surely they have other things to do, food to eat and remaining parts of the festival to enjoy.

she flushes a soft pink and nods, stepping back to allow them space to depart.

"yeah, um, any place you had in mind? i could visit your shop or we could get coffee next time i'm in petalburg, maybe?"

"I'd like that... Head Scientist." A friendly tease wound its way into how Elisabeth said the woman's title aloud, though it was not meant in an unkind way. If anything, it sounded friendly. Warm.[break][break]

Traits that, in the near future, would rarely if ever be associated with her revealed terrorist persona.[break][break]

Primrose haughtily lifted up her nose, pleased to have won her battle of wills, as Elisabeth shook her head.[break][break]

"Yes, yes, Prim, I'm coming..." She rolled her eyes in an over-dramatic sigh, grinning at the woman across from her. "In case another great adventure claims you before we see one another again, I'm glad that you survived such a trial. For both of our sakes, I hope Hoenn doesn't experience similar conflict in the future."[break][break]

Although inevitably, it would. And the two women might find themselves on opposing sides of an impending battlefield.[break][break]

Elisabeth and her Roselia took their leave, one more ordinary pair of a trainer and her Pokemon making their way through the crowd. There was nothing that day to suggest how strange she would soon become.[break][break]

Nothing, perhaps, except the way that Elisabeth glanced over shoulder a little too late, sensing she'd lost some rare opportunity tonight -- as ephemeral as the fireworks sparkling overhead, fizzling into darkness.
