Jennail made mental note of Josh's suggestion: a saddle from Verdanturf from a tanner that a Gym Leader favoured. She wondered if she could afford it on her income. Perhaps with a few skipped meals.
[break][break]As that thought crossed her mind, a wild Pokémon attacked Josh and Sidewinder, causing Jennail to stumble backwards. Faustus zipped about in the air, unsettled by the sudden attack and noise. Syris groaned with discontent, steadying Jennail from behind with its ghostly arms.
[break][break]While Josh squared off against the angry Metagross that had assaulted him, Jennail noticed other wild Pokémon creeping in with malice: perhaps they'd invaded their territory for too long? Taking inspiration from Josh, she called out to Faustus and ordered him to use Phantom Force against an approaching Sinistea.
[break][break]"The Pokémon seem rather irritated tonight..." She remarked, "Either way, I'll take that tanner's information. Being able to get around faster will help my work."

"Got a number I can text it to you at?" Josh asked. Provided Jennail would give her number, he would text the contact information for his favorite tanner to his traveling companion. "They're good quality for the price you pay, comfortable to sit in, and as comfortable for the Pokémon as possible. That's what's important. They'll fit it not only for your Pokémon, but for you, too." He gestured toward his waist, then undid the harness holding his lower midsection in place. "For any flying Pokémon, I recommend a cocoon saddle like this one. They cost a bit more, but they'll make sure you don't fall. You can even fly upside down and be fine!" Not wanting to fall from his mount making a sudden move, he cocooned himself back in.

While the older female's battle was going on, Josh felt a sudden chill from his right arm as a wild Honedge wrapped its tassel around him without him noticing at first. It drained quite a bit of stamina from him for him to notice he was both cold and tired. A yawn came out of his mouth. "Is it really cold out here, Jennail?" Josh asked before idly tilting his head to his right and at last noticing the tassel. It did not take him long to hurl a Poké Ball at the wild. Whether he captured it or it fled, he didn't care. The cold feeling reminded him of his Doublade who had died outside Lilycove City. He turned unusually quiet, a solemn look on his face.

The Cofagrigus helped Jennail right herself as she took in a deep breath. Faustus collected the Pokéball in his mouth and returned it to Jennail, who tucked it away in her satchel. After asking for her contact details, Jennail jotted down her phone number on a pad of paper she kept in her bag; tearing it off as the Gym Leader commented on the temperature. She watched as Josh defended himself against the encroaching Honedge.
[break][break]"The Pokémon of Mt. Pyre are quick aggressive tonight. Perhaps the nearby distortion is irritating them?" She commented, offering the piece of paper to the man.

While Josh had been bubbly and cheerful throughout their interaction, Jennail noted his sudden dip in mood. It was beyond the fatigue that Honedge could induce: it was a look of sadness.

[break][break]She paused. It was an expression Jennail knew well. She took a few steps closer, the paper at her side if Josh hadn't already accepted it.

"They have been ever since the rifts showed up," Josh added. "Even the ones in the underground waterway northwest of here were really aggressive." He was, of course, referring to the waterway he explored with Matt Vice and Isaac Merlo in search of Twilight's replacement Absolite. "But them being more aggressive means they're tougher and stronger when you capture them. Bred Pokémon make the best mounts, but wild Pokémon make the best combatants, from my experience."

Jennail caught onto Josh's body language. "Yeah, just thinking about Yagyu. She was my Doublade that died fighting an Annihilape named Haunted Fist. When a wild Pokémon gets a name, you know it's accumulated a hell of a kill count." Sidewinder's head turned toward the Border's entrance. "Some time later, I came back here to visit my Doublade's soul and help her pass on. Catching that Honedge made me think of her is all. I hope this one can be just as strong as she was."
