When it came to war, there was no such thing as a dirty tactic. Everything was fair game, including — but certainly not limited to — kidnapping and torture.[break][break]

Normally, Zev wore his signature tailored suit and tie for jobs, forgoing masks because his targets never survived the encounters. But on that night, his prey was going to live for a little bit longer. Just long enough for Team Rocket to extract precious information out of her, at any rate. And so he wore unassuming clothing: the uniform of a certain delivery company and a mask over the lower half of his face.[break][break]

But Zev was not alone, either. One of the crime syndicate's potential recruits accompanied him, assigned to the job as a test of their willingness to carry out orders. Together, they sat in the delivery van they'd hijacked for the job.[break][break]

"Let's go over the plan," he said to his accomplice. "Between us, we bring the package up to floor twelve, room 1204. We'll enter the apartment with the delivery by any means necessary."[break][break]

The package they planned to deliver was huge and heavy. Though two people could carry it easily between them, one definitely could not.[break][break]

"At the right opportunity, we knock her out and tie her up. My Cofagrigus will teleport her back into this van while we leave out the front door like nothing happened, then get back here and drive off. Any questions?"

there was an intense sound of button mashing. followed by the scent of grape flavored candy. glove covered hands were seen rapidly interacting with a handheld device; it was the source of the incessant clacking that occurred within the vehicle. with the sound slightly turned down to better hear his captain, nicolas rivera would continue to focus upon the handheld video game; all while listening to Zev Harcourt speak.

tipping his worker's cap and pausing his game. nicolas, removing the grape flavored sucker from his mouth, would say, "1104 and deliverin' a package, right boss?" he was right, but majorly wrong. nicolas, as much as he'd like to believe himself to be, was incapable of listening while doing his own activity.

"viejo, you sure you can carry this with me? don't want you breaking your back on me." he would add, a look of confusion donning him, "and who are we kidnappin'? do they owe rocket money?" enthusiastically he would sit up to say aloud, "are we outside your exes home, right now? i'm too sexy to go to jail, you know what they do to dudes like me?" he would set his game down to look into the mirror. staring at his own reflection, he'd say, "damn, i'd do a lot to me." what were they talking about again?

Zev felt his blood pressure rise. "Put that way," he snapped, referring to the handheld gaming device. His voice went ice cold, cruel and uncompromising. "It's 1204. Don't make me repeat it again."[break][break]

Not every grunt who joined Team Rocket was one that Zev could tolerate. Nicolas was completely unknown to him, having arrived at the submarine just the other day. Nothing in his file stood out to Zev, either. He was, for all intents and purposes, just another pair of hands who could carry out Rocket's dirty work.[break][break]

"I can carry it with you," Zev reassured Nicolas. "And our target is Theresa Maheu, a government official who we believe has information about upcoming League operations."[break][break]

Zev ignored Nicolas' other comments and pulled the keys from the ignition.[break][break]

"Let's go."[break][break]

Exiting the van, he gave the security guard at the front door a friendly nod and tip of his worker's cap. Zev had parked right in front of the apartment complex for a quick and easy drop-off, but also so the security cameras could catch them arrive with a package and leave without one.[break][break]

Walking to the back of the van, Zev opened the doors and started to pull the package out. Though it was a long rectangle, it was also rather slim — roughly the size of a large TV. He waited to Nicolas to join him and help move the parcel.

after tossing the handheld game away. nicolas would exit the vehicle to begin operation: snatch-a-hoe. "we couldn't have borrowed a machoke for this! what movin' people don't have a machoke on hand?" seriously, heavy lifting wasn't something he was exactly in the mood for. why couldn't he get a mission to woo the heart of some poor unfortunate souls significant other. was kidnapping where the money resided these days?

anyway, once they were to arrive at their destination. nicolas, nearly out of breath, would drop his end of the box gasping and huffing for air. he'd rest one arm atop of the box. raising a finger, he'd say, "just...a second!" he uttered while gasping for air. "let a young vato breathe." how were they even gonna go about this next?

Zev ignored the complaints. He focused on hauling the box with Nicolas' help. It was clear he'd be doing most of the actual heavy lifting, which was not actually that much of a problem for him. Lifting weights at the gym was actually a useful way to spend one's free time, unlike whatever children were doing these days.[break][break]

They took the elevator up to the twelfth floor and easily made their way to the target's room. While Nicolas caught his breath, Zev adjusted his uniform and cap. "Just stay silent and follow my lead."[break][break]

Then he cleared his throat and rang the doorbell. A woman answered. Her face matched the photograph of Theresa Maheu that intel had given Zev and Nicolas.[break][break]

The Beast gave her a friendly, dimpled smile. "Good afternoon, Miss Maheu. Package delivery for you," he said, handing her a clipboard with a confirm of delivery receipt she had to sign.[break][break]

Confused, she looked over the paperwork. Of course, she hadn't ordered anything for herself, but her name and address were clearly printed on the delivery confirmation. She signed with some hesitation.[break][break]

"Thank you, ma'am. Now if you don't mind holding the door open, we'll get this inside for you." Zev lifted his end of the box and waited for Nicolas to do the same on the other side, then they carefully maneuvered their way into the apartment.[break][break]

Beneath Zev, a part of his shadow broke off and merged with the shadows in the apartment.

like a wolf's in sheep clothing. Zev Harcourt 's aura had grown to be bathe in a hue of blue. the demeanor he exhibited before could easily serve as an inspiration behind the meaning of a "wolf in sheep's clothing". though nicolas was still new, he would gulp at the sight of someone so dangerous interacting with a civilian.

entering the woman's apartment. nicolas, who'd been eyeing the ground while moving the box, took note of the shadow that broke off. "huh?" the woman would ask the youth if there was something wrong. quickly, with a panic response, "s-sorry, there's a lot of dust on this package so i felt a sneeze coming on!" quickly jolting back to Zev Harcourt , he would ask with gritted teeth, "old dude just what exactly was that? somethin' weird just darted off." eyes signaling a gesture to the side one moment and then back to zev repeatedly, nicolas neverously chuckled aloud.

By the time Nicolas breathed his concern to Zev, they had moved down the hall and into a large, extravagant living room, complete with a chandelier and enormous sofa. The woman had walked with them, directing them to put the box down in a corner.[break][break]

Before Zev could respond, the shadows surged upward around her. Zev's Cofagrigus coalesced from a swirl of darkness, the two doors of her coffin-like body wide open. Four spectral hands shot out, three grasping Ms. Maheu while the last one clamped tightly over her mouth so no one would hear her scream of alarm. She struggled in vain against the sinuous limbs as they shoved her inside the black void of the Ghost-type Pokémon's body.[break][break]

The coffin snapped shut.[break][break]

Zev's façade dropped for a moment as he stole a peek through the front door that was still open ajar. No one seemed to have noticed, and nothing from the hallway made a sound.[break][break]

"Do a quick search of her apartment," he instructed Nicolas in a hushed voice. "See if you can find any incriminating evidence of secret League operations. I'll make some noise with the box and keep an eye out for anyone who might look through the door."

well that just happened. nicolas, stunned, had little to say as he tried to gather his thoughts from what had occurred. that was a first, it was a pokemon he'd never seen before. it was scary, but also exciting. there was but one thing he could really say, "that was so cool!" he'd loudly whisper. jumping into the air with a fist risen, "you were all like, 'don't worry ma'am, i got you!' and then she was like, 'hehe, let me just sign this!' and then it was all like, 'whaaa, chomp!' that was wicked! you're vicious man!" nicolas excitedly praised. he realized he could learn a lot from Zev Harcourt.

with his next order given, he'd search while continuing to speak, "i don't know what that pokemon was, but it ain't like nothin' i've ever seen before! was that one of those 'avatar' things i heard so much about?" he'd pause with a plethora of random items in his arms, dropping them as his eyes became emboldened with glee, "was that one of those legendary rare-type!? talk about badass, i can't believe your partnered to somethin' like that!" he would get back to searching while continuing to gush over the entire moment still.

"i don't know what the hell i'm lookin' for, but anything i don't understand or looks like jargon? i'm just gonna assume it's what we want!" nicolas chimed.

Nicolas' complete attitude change was like whiplash, but Zev bore it well, shuffling the box around as he kept one eye on the slightly open front door.[break][break]

"Keep your voice down," Zev hissed, only to be interrupted by the clatter of objects that Nicolas dropped in a sudden burst of excitement. Resisting the urge to groan, he continued in a loud whisper, "I'll answer all of your questions on the way back. Just… put those back and let's leave."[break][break]

At the rate they were going, it was going to be easier to simply extract the information from Ms. Maheu. Zev turned to his Cofagrigus, who floated patiently at his side. "Use PHANTOM FORCE to get back into the van. We'll be there in a few minutes."[break][break]

The Coffin Pokémon instantly vanished with a soft whoomph sound.[break][break]

Then Zev switched back to his friendlier voice, smiling widely at nothing and no one. "All right, ma'am, thanks very much for your cooperation. Have a great day."[break][break]

He gestured silently to Nicolas to follow. Leaving the box behind, Zev exited the apartment with the calm demeanor of a delivery man ready to move onto the next destination.

"anything you say, boss!" and so he'd merrily do as told. grabbing whatever he could and would flee the scene with the beast he'd now had a newfound respect for. it made him wonder if everyone in rocket was as cool as Zev Harcourt. nicolas couldn't wait to meet the rest of the members.
