"i dunno. a lot, i guess?" annalise shrugs. she calls a lot of people bestie, but she wouldn't categorize them all as one of her best friends. it's really just a silly colloquialism that makes her giggle whenever someone old like MATIAS SILPH says it out loud.

she feels a wave of relief wash over her when he brushes off her worries with a much more matias-like "that's okay". her glass settles on the countertop with a gentle clink! as she finally reaches for her burger. she looks up at him, idly fiddling with the foil wrapper.

"yeah, duh, of course that's what i want! that's why i'm here. and i promise i'll come over more often so we can hang out and you can stop jumping in the lake or, like, whatever you do to pass the time here."

she finally unwraps it enough to take a bite, but she doesn't get the chance to — MATIAS SILPH 's suggestion pulls her attention away. it sounds fun, honestly, but better suited for different circumstances and different seasons.

[break][break]it may not be true, but he does give her the vibes of someone who would be a very sore winner about bankrolling a monopoly game. she makes a mental note to bring some type of game next time, but for now she's content with MATIAS SILPH's decision to binge watch something instead.

the conversation falls into hungry silence as they focus on their not-warm-anymore burgers. she steals glances at him while she eats, trying to imagine up what kind of shows he'd be into. [break][break]major boring war doc vibes, she thinks, watching him mow down his burger like a military man in a mess hall. by the time she's halfway done with her food, he's at the sink to wash his hands. the pressure of him milling around her isn't enough to make her eat faster, though.

whiskey, tequila, and vodka. he'll have to make something with those liquors as a base. he opens his fridge, peering in at the contents to try and come up with something.[break][break]

in the end, he decides on making them a vodka mule. it's not really sweet but it's definitely easier to drink than whiskey sours.[break][break]

at the bottom of her first glass, she starts to feel it — the familiar, "i'm kinda tipsy" headiness of alcohol that makes her force herself through the rest of her burger while MATIAS SILPH is rummaging through his fridge. she really wants to see what this mystery drink is like, so a little more food in her stomach helps keep the lightheaded feeling at bay.

annalise doesn't look like she's feeling anything at a glance, but then her face lights up a little to brightly when he asks her what shows she watches. [break][break]"i watch a lot of diff stuff, to be honest. romcoms, dramas, crime shows, those, like, historical dramas with the pretty set pieces. i'm really not suuuper picky as long as the plot is good."

but what should they watch? the question rolls around in her head as she throws her burger wrapper in the trash and moves towards the sink. the cold water gives her clarity.

but she's already thinking of a plan b, worried that his reaction precedes a rejection. he opens his mouth like he's about to do just that, but the words that come out are much more agreeable than she expects. she beams. [break][break]
the MATIAS SILPH . watching trashy reality tv. the image of it in her head makes her giggle to herself as he offers her her drink.

"thanks!" she says as she takes it off the counter, voice thick with laughter. "now let's go!"[break][break]

after two drinks and however many episodes of this dating-centric reality tv show, her buzz has wound down into sleepiness. she's much more subdued now than she had been with her running commentary a few episodes ago, allowing couple fights to slip by without verbal observation. [break][break]
occasionally, she checks her phone, the cool light illuminating the tired edges of her face.

the credits, gratefully, pop up onto the screen. she sits up straight on the couch and sets the pillow she was holding onto cushion between them.

"not bad, right?" she asks, voice strained as she cranes her arms over her head. she huffs a little sigh as her stretch ends. "we can watch the rest next time i come over!"

it's not yet said outright, but the way she gets up from the couch is implication enough that their time together is coming to an end.
