THE BORDER IS A MOUNTAINOUS PURGATORY OF MUTED SEPIA SMOKE. By floating islands, translucent bridges soar through the realm toward the heavens. Tall stone spires jut out from the spiritual mist. In the sky, the wisps of spirits can be seen heading toward their final destination before the afterlife...[break][break]

Curiously, there are four broken seals embedded in four mountains. Though Adrian Malcolm and YVELTAL may have seen their location upon their unceremonious entry, the spirit realm has shifted since their last visit, rendering each broken seal far apart from each other.

43 stumble into a monochrome labyrinth of fog, an epiphanic prison, together or individually. the only way to escape is by having an epiphany of some kind: enlightenment, confession, mastering one's fears. threats may manifest in the labyrinth that represent each character's guilt, regret, etc.

🗺️ THE CLEANSING TAG can be used to help ward or mitigate any malevolent force.
🗺️ SPECIAL HUNT: noah faber will now be able to encounter and catch a MARSHADOW. you must be able to defeat or prove to the marshadow that you are worthy of training them, but this will be no easy task. they quickly learn you and your pokemon's movements, able to mimic their movements by analyzing or hiding in their shadows.

Memories vibrated off Penelope's fingertips. No matter whichever way the group would take, she made it a point to cling onto either noah faber's or kyle lopez's side, adamant about not only avoiding MATIAS SILPH's presence, but any form of contact.

Professionalism was maintained, of course, bleeding through every pained response she felt obligated to offer back. It did little to conceal the blatant truth hidden behind every forced smile or flat laugh, though. There was no hiding that.

It'd already been a month since her last visit to these desolate lands. Back then, along the very pathing of rock and gravel, she'd committed one of the worst sins of her life. Worst, she enjoyed it. Even now, it was never regret that twisted her tongue, but the bitter repercussion of ever allowing hope to make fiction feel within the realm of possibilities.

One second, Penelope squeezed her eyes shut, drained from it all. The next, they blinked back open, revealing the familiar site of two built pillars of rock with a smoky bridge built between them. It spanned out to the abyss. Beyond it, the inn from their last travels kept to itself.

kyle points to a vast field of humans and pokemon who have been petrified into stone as per his map suggests. it's one of the nearby areas that they haven't explored yet, not counting rifts beyond the deteriorating landscape that split the mainland from a vast sea of fog and a drop to the abyss.

he pulls out binoculars, just to see from a distance.

"this is interesting," he tells the rest of the party. "who's excited to go first?"

they still have no idea if it's an effect of the environment, or if something did it to them. there's also the possibility that they've just been placed there, but kyle supposed it's unlikely.

Hesitation marked her steps.

For every part of her that feasted off the small glimpses she snuck away, another part, more ferocious than the former, would howl back reminders of all that he threatened. More than that, they reminded her of the wounds he'd torn open without remorse.

Before her lips could even take shape, Noah sprinted forward, claiming the emptied space she'd been eyeing since the start.

Another day, another moment stolen due to her inadequacies. [Break][break]

She breathed out a sigh.[Break][break]

Together with kyle lopez, they followed Matias and Noah into the field of stolen memories. Each face carved a new story to bare witness to. They all held the same tragic tune, forged from a villain left unknown. [Break][break]

Whenever their walk would slow, Penelope would take a second to lean toward one, exploring the small intricacies that whispered the statue's final thoughts. [Break][break]

One stood out in particular.

But, before she could lean too close, an eruption of sound shattered whatever semblance of peace the group held onto up to that point. It came in the form of a gust of wind, then a shrieking cry.

"Fuck, careful everyone!"
[Break][break]
Fingers curled into a fist, Penelope slammed her hand into her side, cracking open the PokeBall of Mr. Rime.

FEAR clawed at her beating heart. It'd been months since Mt pyre. A month since the call of battle beckoned for an answer. During those moments, she had thought it would only get easier over time.

But it never did.
[Break][break]
Destruction took flight, spanning out its claw-like wings beneath the scorching heat of the borders. The jaws of its shadows found victims in their defenseless bodies. [Break][break]

Darkness collected at the center of its body, thickly coated in peaking shrills. It came out in the form of a DARK PULSE.

In the dimmest moments of the overwhelming display of strength, Penelope saw a shield of light flicker in front of both herself and kyle lopez. Protection had arrived.

the willingness of all three companions to go was worrying, but not at all unsurprising. it made sense for him to stay back despite the decision being made on the whim, given that he's the one person to be able to carry them out in the case of emergencies.

he'd flash a look of sympathy at PENELOPE LIVY had amusement not overtaken him. he reads into her sigh, following it with a chuckle of his own.

as unnerving as the field of stone were, so was the appearance of yveltal. noah faber's cry comes just in time for kyle to take his eyes off of looking at one of the petrified statues, and then finding himself behind PENELOPE LIVY's pokemon's cover.

"well..."

the natural inclination to touch the dead does not occur upon sight of the stone figures, though he's unsure whether the sygna suit has something to do with it. still, he feels strangely calm with this adversary, perhaps subconsciously waiting for the worse to come.

his pokemon that pops out of its ball within the next moment feels it as well.

he only recognizes yveltal from previous involvement in various operations, with november being the most recent. the only thing he remembers was xerneas being its counterpart, of which kyle already has part of it in his disposal.

"baton pass a geomancy..." kyle forms a finger gun, firing it off to noah faber's direction "to that guy's next pokemon."

he's the best bet for survival, for he knows MATIAS SILPH would face it head-on in a fight.

noah does not spare words, seconds. a SKETCHED GEOMANCY descends upon noah's machamp from smeargle brush. [break][break]

quickly, the pokemon charges forth, its brutish body pushing past petrified prophets. noah follows too.[break][break]

however, there is little time. this yveltal knows the ins and outs of this domain in the most literal sense, for it begins to emerge beneath matias.[break][break]

"no!"[break][break]

though his pokemon expresses discontent, training takes over. noah leaps and his machamp grabs him by the leg to swing and toss. through the air, the gym leader's soars toward matias, his shadow rippling across stone heads.[break][break]

with a harsh thud, noah tackles matias out of harm's way. however, the gym leader's unharmed in the following blast of ghost energy.

instead, a MARSHADOW takes the yveltal's strike. but it does not petrify immediately. having SPECTRAL THIEF'd noah's machamp, the shadowy creature is inspired. inspired by noah's sacrificial swiftness that it desires to mimic it.[break][break]

it salutes noah as the stones, though slowed by the stolen boons, travel up its small body.[break][break]

"i'm so sorry, man—" noah frowns before his machamp shouts, one of its arms pointing at the unceasing yveltal.

Penelope was not MATIAS SILPH, noah faber, or kyle lopez. When the emblem of death screeched, Penelope cowered. When it swooped down, she flinched.

Courage announced itself as a shortage. For all that she was worth, in the face of danger there was little her body thought to do.

"Mr. Rime, try to slow it down," she tried, but in the roar of combat, it took several attempts of her words to reach the ice type.

When they did, he nodded before lifting his icicle cane. It's with a wobble he beckoned forth a FREEZE-DRY. It looked to freeze the tips of the avian. Maybe it would do enough to slow its movements.

the most devastating of its attacks went to MATIAS SILPH and noah faber.

was it because it knew the environment would have little effect to him with his sygna suit, and subsequently PENELOPE LIVY with her proximity towards him, or was it simply a coin flip?

as the councilwoman fumbles on her commands, kyle takes the matter on his own hands. there have been very little countermeasures to what the borders throws at them, but the few weapons they've had has always been effective.

swiftly, he takes a tag from PENELOPE LIVY's pockets, having known where they are from the last time, and quickly attempts something.

"you are so lucky your marshadow wasn't a crackhead," he yells at noah faber as he sprints, smeargle on tow.

a cleansing tag gets pointed to the direction of the yveltal, hoping it would do something. the effects of its move doesn't reverse, however, though the process gets slowed down.

unbeknownst to kyle, his smeargle has kept the geomancy in play. channeling the energy allows small patches of grass to ground from the ground. he throws a spotlight on the marshadow in a panic, redirecting the attack to it instead.

🗺️ THE CLEANSING TAG can be used to help ward or mitigate any malevolent force.

a blurred shade of blue comes soaring his way, tackling him to the ground which saves him from impending petrification. he grunts as he hits the ground, having the wind taken out of him.[break][break]

"fuck you."[break][break]

he spits, groaning as he pushes off the ground. he offers a hand to noah faber right as the marshadow beginst to turn to stone.[break][break]

"not you, but fuck that bird."[break][break]

is it even a bird? he has little time to ponder over it as it comes soaring back around, this time drawn to kyle lopez's SPOTLIGHT.[break][break]

it strikes at the half-petrified marshadow.[break][break]

given an opening, urshifu sends a surging gale of SPRINGTIDE STORM over at yveltal. the fairy-move wraps around it, holding in place for virizion to swoop in from nowhere with a precise SACRED SWORD.[break][break]

hopefully, their combined efforts would be enough.[break][break]

despite the forlorn tinge staining the chaos, noah discovers admiration of the councilwoman's burgeoning bravery.[break][break]

the yveltal's wingtips frost and the CLEANSING TAG thickens the spiritual quagmire the beast must trudge through.[break][break]

"what! yours was?!" noah says back to kyle as he takes matias' hand. "thanks... hah, i know. fuck that bird for real, man."[break][break]

the SPOTLIGHT descends upon the petrifying MARSHADOW—and forces a tendril of yveltal's OBLIVION WING to peel away from the attack's main body.[break][break]

the red bolt plunges unto the MARSHADOW and casts its stone shackles aside. in the distance, MATIAS SILPH's URSHIFU & VIRIZION strike slowed wings and scarlet breast. [break][break]

it is enough for the yveltal to flee.[break][break]

"shit... we all good?!" the gym leader asks everyone. beside him, his machamp tends to the marshadow.

Despite noah faber 's silent admiration, there was no swallowing the piling shame that wore at her shoulders. To think she'd been such a hindrance that kyle lopez felt it necessary to reach into her own pocket for the cleansing tag, when it was well within her own power to grab it herself.

But now wasn't the time to wallow. The day's been won, and whether or not it was her contributions that dealt the final blow, there was no denying the victory they all got to share. With that in mind, she beckoned for Mr rime to follow her back to the group.

of the tools he's had, he's not happy with the resort. folding the tag neatly, his head is filled with other options he could have taken, majority of which could have resulted to a less messy outcome.

"for the most part, i think," he answers noah faber.

beside them, he sees PENELOPE LIVY already taking care of MATIAS SILPH. at first glance, it seems like a friend who was simply worried about another friend. he wonders if he's reading too much into it as he wonders how many of her actions were biased and how much of it was her actual character.

"you should check up on your friend," he tells his husband as he motions to the marshadow, slipping the cleansing tag on his hands as he touches them. "i'll go check the surrounding area."

he stretches his limbs before distancing himself from the group, looking for something else of value to add to his map. with the immediate threat out, complacency puts him in an unfortunate scenario where he's split the moment the fog swallows them up.
