"oh, no, wait, i didn't mean it like that."

the tone he used only gets back to him when he hears the response. a small pouch containing first-aid materials were taken off from his belt as he moves behind gunner to assess his wounds.

"i don't think i can carry you if you get injured." he did seem heavier than him. "we're both dead if you drop."

each moment was spent throwing attacks back at the beast to fend it off, and they were forced to run-and-gun. the question of whether gunner could still do it after the injury he sustained gets answered when he sees wounds have mended already.

"huh?" the surprise was from not having to need to dress gunner's wounds. the cry from the paradox pokemon then takes kyle's attention soon afterwards. "what?"

a reaction.

"...thunder."

standing beside the transformed ditto, the manectric channels another fully charged strike from the heavens, dropping a bolt of lightning on the robotic hydreigon to a surprising degree of effectiveness.

Kyle's reasoning was sound, though Gunner would have preferred if the other man ran instead of trying to carry his dead body around. He let it go, however. A Pokémon battle in the middle of Ultra Deep Sea was not the place for that argument.[break][break]

Between the two Manectrics, it seemed to Gunner that they were finally gaining the upper hand. His Ditto mimicked the THUNDER, striking the three-headed Pokémon with a tremendous blow. It screeched in agony and rage as it landed with a heavy thud upon the ground.[break][break]

"I think we're beating it," the pale-haired man said, hopeful.[break][break]

Suddenly, their surroundings shifted, seeming to melt away as the interdream mist swirled at the command of several wingbeats. Incredibly, more strange Pokémon — identical to the one fighting them — descended from above. Their combined roars sent Gunner's heart rate spiking as adrenaline and dread filled him.[break][break]

"We should get out of here," he said again, grabbing Kyle's arm, his tone full of urgency.

kyle would book it the first possible opportunity, taking gunner's tug as the signal. it wouldn't really be doable had one of them had different plans.

that was what he planned on doing when he wandered around ultra deep sea looking for soldiers smitten down by conflict with rocket after all: keep casualties as little as possible.

as they turn their backs on the paradox pokemon, he can hear a terrifying roar sound from one of them, followed by the sound of a beam retreating to a pokeball on the holster he held on his waist.

a pokemon comes out to replace the manectric, and kyle wouldn't have known who it was until it let out an astonishing chiming sound that would attract the attention of the paradox pokemon for a moment.

"shit. he did that on his own," he tells gunner as he steels his resolve to leave the chingling, legs continuing to move. "he wasn't mine either."

a soldier's. kyle had met its trainer prior to finding gunner, insisting he keep the pokemon around for good luck. he understands now why he found it difficult to swallow when he accepted the offer.

The ROAR delivered Gunner's Ditto back into its Pokéball, which was a relief considering how Kyle booked it without warning. Gunner rushed after him, shouting in alarm as the Chingling escaped from its vessel to face down the horde of strange Pokémon by itself.[break][break]

A beam and a blast later, and nothing remained of it. Gunner's stomach churned with sickness at the thought of the innocent Pokémon sacrificing itself to buy the men some time.[break][break]

Even though Kyle said the Chingling wasn't his, Gunner found himself wishing to apologize. But he bit it back, knowing it wasn't necessary. Perhaps the Pokémon wished to reunite with its dead owner in the afterlife. Perhaps it merely wished to make one last, brave stand.[break][break]

He'd never know. They rushed through the Ultra Deep Sea until the interdream mist cleared and the roars of the three-headed Pokémon rang only in their ears.
