A successful assault needed to be multi-faceted. While ROCKET units rushed Granite Cave, weakening LEAGUE forces as they attempted to overtake the Ultra Deep Sea, Admin Bee was busy scrambling communication relays. An enemy cut off from their comrades was like lopping off the head of a dragon - it rendered them vulnerable to defeat.[break][break]

That was the idea, anyway. Harder in practice when they’d set up multiple small masts all throughout the cavern that needed to be dealt with. Some were even dummy devices, meant to to waste ROCKET’s time and resources.[break][break]

His Shadow STEELIX was busy smashing one such machine when Barnaby heard a sound echoing through the cave. He looked back, a hand hovering over the Poké Balls at his belt.

sometimes, the fighting can be nuanced, shrouded within intricacies and strategies that can often decide whether a side wins or losses.[break][break]

what rushes out to meet the steelix is a poliwrath, BRICK BREAK of an arm at the ready as it looks to slam into the steelix.[break][break]

Of all the LEAGUE dogs to run into, it just had to be this one.[break][break]

The enormous STEELIX heard the footfalls of the approaching POLIWRATH. Looked down on it, it's snaggle-toothed mouth gaping in silent laughter. Even allowed it to approach, fists raised.[break][break]

It took the BRICK BREAK like a champ, wincing slightly, before attempting to snake its tail around the Tadpole Pokémon and constrict its movement.[break][break]

Whether it was successful or not, it would still call on its EARTH POWER to cripple the POLIWRATH.

EARTH POWER meets EARTH POWER, each side contesting for power and control only to come just short.[break][break]

eventually, the poliwrath leaps high up into the air, avoiding being crushed by the EARTH POWER. there, high up, it rotates and turns to angle a HYDRO PUMP down at the steelix as it begins its descent.[break][break]

a laugh cuts through the tense air.[break][break]

The avatar's laugh reverberated through Granite Cave and was met with a resounding,[break][break]

"Why would I surrender to some limpdick asshole like you?"[break][break]

Hopefully that ruffled some feathers. After all, the longer Barnaby occupied MATIAS SILPH here, the less time he could spend fucking shit up elsewhere on the warfront.[break][break]

Meanwhile, STEELIX countered the HYDRO PUMP by using STONE EDGE; giant boulders jutted out from the ground below, blocking the stream of water before it could hit. After, as the POLIWRATH fell back to Earth, the crystalline snake would try and use its tail to slap its opponent across the other side of the battlefield and into the cavern wall.

The rest of his body is still under his control, though; swinging his giant head forward, BRICK BREAK makes contact with the thickest part of his armor. The serpentine Pokémon groans in pain, but still manages to unleash another EARTH POWER.[break][break]

"If you want to see my pretty face you'll have to come rip the mask off yourself." Flexing his hand, Barnaby shimmied a knife from the cuff of his sleeve and into his palm.

STEELIX noticed the POLIWRATH’s slower movements, saw its trainer start to walk forward. In response, the Shadow Pokémon began to exude an ominous energy and flung itself into the ground, letting the BRICK BREAK land along its side. Cracks began to form near the impact site, but that didn’t deter it from unleashing another STONE EDGE.[break][break]

This attack was different from the first, though.[break][break]

Huge, jagged, abysmally dark crystals suddenly erupted from the earth around MATIAS SILPH, threatening to skewer him if he didn’t counter and evade in some way. Similar to the energy pulsing from the STEELIX, a sinister power permeated out from within the shadowed crystals.

the STONE EDGE slams into poliwrath and it's almost enough to knock it out. it drops to a knee, hanging on for now.[break][break]

matias is too slow to manipulate the earth beneath him in time. dark crystals shoot out at him, ready to skewer him, and they would've if not for the split intervention from his poliwrath.[break][break]

a PSYCHIC flings him up and over toward BARNABY FINCH.[break][break]

As Matias flew forward, even more dark crystals erupted from the earth in front of the admin before the STEELIX succumbed to its injuries, momentarily blocking the Elite Four member from getting closer.[break][break]

In that time, Barnaby returned his STEELIX and released his GALLADE, immediately attempting to TELEPORT away.
