At last, the iron jaws of
skyler dross's grip releases him... but it may be too late. No longer certain which way is
up, Gavin can only kick off in a direction and hope that he isn't consigning himself further to the deep as his lungs scream and his struggles weaken.[break][break]
Something curls around him, and the surprise makes him fight it.[break][break]
It's useless. He's not strong enough.[break][break]
But it proves to be a boon, a sudden jerk yanking him in the direction he hadn't been intending to swim. He assumes it to be
downward, thinks perhaps the Dhelmise had survived after all, thinks that for all his will to survive this might be the end of him.[break][break]
Pain erupts around him.[break][break]
And then suddenly he's ripped from the ocean's jaws, a forced gasp drawing air instead of water. He still chokes on it thanks to his pain, delirious from lack of air, but
SHADOW MIASMA blooms around him on desperate survival instinct. Curls around a Dhelmise, indeed unconscious, that the underboss isn't consciously aware of. It is sheer willpower that sees it reanimate, sees the chains of an
ANCHOR SHOT seek its own master in the ocean's swell. Binding her.
Halting her.[break][break]
Lugia bursts from the water, Kyogre's jaws in hot pursuit, and catches Gavin upon her broad back before he falls into the leviathan's abyssal maw. The cold sears at their skin and frosts over her feathers, but Gavin's
TERA ORB weakens the impact as glittering ocean blue crystals ripple across the Lugia's purple plumage.
THUNDER booms, and as powerful wingbeats bring her skyward, a bolt of lightning is thrown like a javelin down from the heavens — straight toward the Kyogre's open jaws.[break][break]
Though it is clear to Gavin that Lugia will fight to the bitter end, Rocket's mission is elsewhere. This fight is uphill, for the ocean is Kyogre's dominion more than it is Lugia's sanctuary.[break][break]
"Dewford," he gasps, struggling to right himself upon her back.
"Please."[break][break]
He does not command her. But nor does he
beg, and perhaps the desperation in his voice reaches the volatile legend. She is injured, too, from the searing burns inflicted by the
ORIGIN PULSE to the
LUSTER PURGE that had caught her in the back.[break][break]
With a last, haunting cry, Lugia turns away from the battle and toward the
PRIMAL RIFT.[break][break]
"We're going," Gavin communicates to Temp.
"Can you get out?"[break][break]
If he couldn't,
nothing could make him leave his husband behind.
