“YOU SHOULDN’T BE HERE,” is as firm a reprimand as she’ll get. the fact she even mentions fighting serves as an immediate red flag. for there are only two types of people battling here: the league and team rocket. and, if she’s not expected to be here, outside of his command and expectations, that must put her in the other camp.

but to weigh his opinion on one word, especially knowing hoenn’s populace, may be too stern a supposition. what may have warranted a small investigation may spiral into actual conflict. something he cannot afford when there are more blood thirsty individuals in play.

his intended pokeball never leaves his hand. all it takes is the slightest touch for it to activate should he need it. but, with his other hand, he plucks another one off. one of the harder to reach ones among his utility belt. a clear sign the pokemon in choice is more viewed as a tool than an actual partner.

“this pokemon will care for any injuries you’ve sustained,” fernando declares before rolling it in the direction of her voice.

“if you remain in place long enough, a portal will crack open by chance. exit when you have the chance and stay away from these zones.”

a warning that goes beyond just her safety. this time, she got lucky. next time, she may not be so fortunate to run into someone conflict adverse.

Her eyes remained fixed above him, saying nothing. The sternness of his warning and his reprimand had no effect on her. Perhaps it should have, in retrospect.[break][break]

But paranoia held her in place, and had urged her to speak, for another reason.[break][break]

A sleek, black figure loomed over them both, the pink mist radiating from its piscine form like smoke as light blue eyes held her in place, unsettling in their emotionless gaze. She'd never seen this creature, but she recognized it well enough.[break][break]

Her hand shook, the Pokeball within it curled tightly in a fist.[break][break]

It's dead, her mind tried to reason. The dead can't kill you here.[break][break]

FERNANDO SILPH talked as if she was nothing and no one. In this way, he felt real. Her nightmares would have conjured him differently.[break][break]

He didn't seem to see the presence of the monster that had now stolen speech from her lungs. Silent compliance revealed itself in a brusque nod; she swallowed thickly, unable to do much more until the man departed.[break][break]
